On Thursday, 4 December 2003, the Nominees for the Music Industry’s most important award ceremony were announced. Hänssler Classic is proud to accept SIX nominations for recordings released earlier this year. This year’s nominees include the critically acclaimed cycle of the complete Beethoven Symphonies, recorded by Sir Roger Norrington and SWR RSO, Stuttgart, a searing concert-performance of Bartók’s “Bluebeard’s Castle”, recorded by soloists Cornelia Kallisch and Péter Fried with the SWR RSO, Stuttgart conducted by Peter Eötvös, the track, “Autumn in New York” from the album, “So Very Rob”, performed by Rob McConnell and the SWR Big Band and the debut recording of South African pianist, Petronel Malan, for her recording “Transfigured Bach”. All of these recordings have received enthusiastic critical acclaim in the international press, with Norrington’s recording Beethoven’s 9 th Symphony previously receiving a nomination for “Best Orchestral Performance, 18 th /19 th Century” from the Cannes Classical Awards and Petronel Malan’s debut receiving THREE Grammy Nominations (Best Engineered Album Classical, – for Leslie Ann Jones, Producer Of The Year, Classical – for Marina and Victor Ledin and Best Instrumental Soloist Performance (without Orchestra) – for Ms. Malan). This year’s nominations follow previous year’s nominations for the Golijov Pasion seguin San Marcos (TWO Nominations), Gubaidulina’s St. John Passion, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (conducted by Helmuth Rilling) as well as the 2001 Grammy Winning Recording of Penderecki’s Credo (Hänssler No. 98.311), performed by the Oregon Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra, under the direction of Helmuth Rilling. The 46th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be presented in Los Angeles at STAPLES Center on Sunday, February 8, 2004.
