1. Know Your Team History: Keep notes on your personal and family health history so pre-existing health issues do not keep you sidelined.

2. Fuel for Performance: This is the time to enjoy some of life’s pleasures. That being said, it is important to maintain a balanced and healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables, fiber and fluids.

3. Know Your Opponent: Stay up to date with regular check-ups, routine screenings and annual wellness visits to ensure you are fending off any future issues.

4. Keep Practicing: Regular exercise will maintain your health. It is important to implement exercise into your daily routine and to continue improving your physical skills. Take walks, play tennis or golf, or go on a bike ride!

5. Rest Between Games: Improve daily functioning with recommended amounts of quality sleep. Running short? Call a timeout for a nap. Enjoy your hard-earned free time.

6. Take a Time Out: You’ve worked long and hard to enjoy a fruitful retirement. Take time to travel or pick up new hobbies. Mental and physical stimulation are important to keep you playing your best.

7. Spend Time with the Team: Take time to see friends and family. Spending time with loved ones promotes mental and emotional health.

8. Make a Team Plan: Generate meaningful dialogue with loved ones about your long-term health care needs and wishes. Be prepared and have advance directives.

9. Talk to Your Coach: Ask your board-certified geriatrician to get on a training regimen of vitamins, medication, diet and exercise routine.

10. Put your GamePlan in Action: Make an appointment with one of Hackensack Meridian Health’s physicians at 1-888-732-9355.
