Applying later can reduce your child’s
chances of getting into the school of their
choice.
Reminder. On the 7th of October we are running some workshops for Year 5 children with the organisation Growing Against Violence. As part of this, we are also offering an informative parent session. This will take place in the school (location to be confirmed - depending on numbers) after drop off at 9am. The session is 90 minutes long. Due to the content and topics covered, it is not appropriate for children, so we are offering a creche service, which will be held in the children's centre creche room. A sign up sheet will be in main school office, so please register your space with one of the office staff. This is open to ALL parents. Sessions will also be run in January with the Year 6 pupils Please see the attached flyer further down the Herald for information about these sessions.
UNIFORM UPDATE:
It has been lovely to see so many of the children wearing our school uniform at the beginning of
this academic year. Thank you for making this possible!
To avoid unnecessary expense throughout the year, please make sure that you buy the correct
items of uniform from our uniform suppliers. They are: Wearabouts, Tesco online and Marks &
Spencer’s online.
We will be expecting children to be wearing either the general uniform or full P.E uniform on P.E
days. Please check the policy on our web-site.
DO NOT BUY TRAINERS OR OTHER SPORTSWEAR ITEMS, INCLUDING HATS, THAT
HAVE SPORTING BRAND LOGOS ON THEM AS THE CHILDREN WILL NOT BE ABLE TO
WEAR THESE IN SCHOOL.
Behaviour Policy changes
There have been a few changes to our behaviour policy this year which we
wanted to make you aware of. There is nothing major, just a few tweeks which
we think will allow the children to rely less on extrinsic rewards and focus on
the intrinsic. We want the children to feel proud of their good behaviour
without feeling they need to be rewarded for it.
Our behaviour policy continues to focus on positive behaviour management,
promoted and supported in the following ways:
A carefully planned curriculum
Effective classroom management
Adult role-modelling
Whole school behaviour management plan
Playtime and lunchtime provision (structured playground games,
lunchtime club)
Personalised programmes and support from outside agencies
Reward at Hitherfield will be underpinned by a structured ‘Project Gold’ time
on Friday afternoon, providing children with a menu of activities that they
would not normally get a chance to take part in. All children will be entitled to
‘Project Gold’ time at the end of the week. This is now protected time for the
children and they will always take part in this session. Previously they could
miss out if they had received consequences during the week.
Children will no longer receive Silver Star stickers when they receive a ‘Good
News’ card meaning that there will also be no gold medals given in weekly
assemblies. Teachers will still choose 1 or 2 children from their class each
week to receive a ‘Good News’ card and this will be given to the child and
celebrated in an assembly during the week. Their names will be put in the
Herald and we will celebrate their achievements within school during
assemblies. This will hopefully give all the children a better understanding of
why they are getting this award.
There will be an updated copy of the policy put on the school’s website if you
would like to look at it in more detail and of course if you have any questions or
are not sure of anything please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff.
Welcome to all the new Parents and Carers of all the Reception Children who joined the school this week. Macmillan Coffee Morning and Uniform Sale We will be holding our annual Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday Morning, September 27th. We will also be selling second hand school uniforms and would like to inform all parents that as part of this process the PTA will be emptying the lost property box. As always we try to repatriate all named garments but all unclaimed uniforms will be cleaned and labelled for sale. We also welcome donations. Thank you to all those that regularly drop off donations at the office. This is much appreciated. We will be calling out for cake donations next week and welcome all home baked and store bought cakes. Last year we raised £351.93 for Macmillan and hope to match this with your help. PTA Meeting Our first meeting of the year will take place next Friday after drop off in the staff room at 9:15am. All parents and carers and little people are welcome. There will be coffee, tea and biscuits and we are looking forward to welcoming new faces. The aim of this meeting is to focus on organising the Eid Fair, to take place on the Friday before End of Term. We will have another PTA meeting - our AGM on October 18th - to set the stage for the school year ahead. Wishing you a lovely weekend and hope to see you all next week. PTA Chairs

Medication
Does your child suffer from asthma or allergies? If
so, please make sure these details are up to date in
the school office and that we have an
inhaler/epipen for your child. Even if your child
only suffers from asthma when they have a cold or
is at home, the school still needs to have an inhaler
kept in the office.
For parents that have left medication in the office,
please make sure that these are checked regularly
and in date.
Thank you, School Office
HARVEST TIME FROM THE EDIBLE PLAYGROUND
This week 5 Kingfisher harvested apples and rhubarb and made delicious
crumbles to share, mmmm!
The Fareshare Food Market is back on Monday 16th September
in the Cabin from 3.30pm
Remember to bring a reusable bag and make a donation for the items that you take.
Last year’s donations have funded this year’s deliveries.
The food comes from a charity called Fareshare which redistributes surplus food from
manufacturers and supermarkets to stop it from going in to landfill.
All the Fareshare food is safe to eat.
SELL BY dates are different from USE BY dates.
USE By relates to food that usually needs refrigeration and these dates should be adhered to. SELL
BY relates to almost everything else including tins, packets, fruit and veg. These are guidelines
only, we are encouraged to use our senses, if the food looks, feels and smells ok then it should be
good to eat and doesn’t need to be thrown away.
Shop wisely: only buy what you need to save on wastage and save money.
