The center for BRICS Studies has provided seminal reports
for a series of pioneering research, including :
Research on Trade Facilitation of the BRICS Countries
Proposals on Promoting Comprehensive Integration Among
BRICS Countries in Economic and Cultural Communication
Data Sovereignty-Based Strategies in Enhancing Network
Security
Evaluation and Suggestions on China’s Participation in Global
Governance
Information The Center for BRICS Studies plays an active role in establishing and
operating the ‘Information Sharing and Exchange Platform for the BRICS Countries’, which was listed on top of the agenda for cooperation initiatives in the ‘BRICS Trade and Investment Cooperation Framework’ proposed during the 2013 BRICS Summit in Durban.
The platform has seen a monthly traffic of over 60,000 offering, in both Chinese and English versions, easy access to research-based information covering issues concerning macroeconomics, commerce, collaboration, meetings and exhibitions, cooperation among small- and medium-sized enterprises, legal issues, intellectual property protection, dispute solution, etc.
BRICS Universities League The center for BRICS Studies has contributed
substantially to the networking among
institutions of higher learning to further
promote international communication
among the BRICS countries. By February
2014, a number of universities have
already joined the BRICS Universities
League.
Current progress 1The first Conference on BRICS Research
convened in July, 2013 at the Fudan in Shanghai. 80 Scholars from 17 institutions attended, representing 8 countries around the world. During the conference, 9 universities proposed the Initiative Towards Establishment of the BRICS Universities League.
Beside the 5 chinese universities, the Russion side are:
National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow, State Institute of International Relations, Ural Federal University, and Far Eastern Federal University from the Russian side.
Current progress 2In March 2014, based on recommendations,
Fudan University drafted the Charter of the League of BRICS Universities .
May 23, 2014, Vice Minister Hao Ping of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China sent a letter to his BRICS counterparts relating his approval of the League proposal. He expressed hope that each country will support it
In July 2014, the League proposal was formally written into the Fortaleza Statement at the Sixth BRICS Summit.
Current progress 3About the Secretariat, we advice that the
Secretariat will take the method of rotating presidency in accord with the order of BRICS presidency, namely the host country of BRICS Summit is the presidency for our Universities League. Thus, if the BRICS Universities League can be set up next year, the Secretariat should be instituted through the negotiations among the Russian participators.
Suggest that the founding meeting is going to be held in Shanghai, at the end May by Fudan in Shanghai,
