Walk into an English Heritage holiday cottage and the feeling is of welcome and comfort expressed through muted colours and clean modern design, all in harmony with an historic interior. By choosing some of the subtle tones from the colour palette created for us by The Little Greene Paint Company as background, and combining them with furniture sourced from English designers, we’ve created interiors that are individual to us.

By the time Henry viii died in 1547 he had spent a total of £376,000 (£1.13 billion in today’s money) on the defence of his realm. the man who destroyed monasteries was also the man who built fortresses and palaces.

Pendennis Castle guarded the Cornish coast against the perennial threat of a cross-channel invasion; it saw action during the English Civil War when the Royalists waited out a five month siege and played its part in the D-Day Landings of June 1944 when troops set off from Falmouth under the cover of guns from Pendennis, St Mawes and St Anthony Head. The traditional Noon Day Gun is still fired in July and August and the Keep affords an excellent view for the regular re-enactments which take place in the grounds of the castle.

Callie’s CottageCallie’s Cottage, sleeping four, was built 100 years ago as a Sergeants’ mess but takes its name from Callie Saxty MBE, the castle’s long serving Operations Manager. She came to live here for 18 months and stayed 24 years. Callie always felt sorry for day-trippers because Pendennis takes on a new life once the crowds have dispersed. Staying here affords families a chance to find out precisely what she meant.

Callie’s Cottage is within walking distance of the pubs, restaurants and beaches of Falmouth.

the most westerly of Henry viii’s chain of forts, Pendennis Castle stands proudly on a rugged headland overlooking the entrance to the river Fal.

Built to guard Cornwall from invasion, its central gun tower is the oldest part challenging all comers for over four centuries. The castle is said to have last armed during the English Civil War in the 1640s when the Royalists bravely stood out against a five month siege. Later the castle fell into disrepair but in the late 18th and early 19th centuries the fortress was strengthened and new gun batteries, stores and barracks were built.

tHe Custodian’s House The Custodian’s House is a single storey cottage that sleeps two, overlooking the entrance to the River Fal. The sitting/dining room gives ample space for relaxing, eating and enjoying the stunning views over Gyllyngvase Bay. Guests can also enjoy the Cornwall sunshine relaxing on their own private terrace.

The Custodian’s House is within the rampart walls of Pendennis Castle so guests are welcome to explore Cornwall’s greatest fortress. The castle is a mere stroll away from the beaches and the many restaurants, shops and public houses of the historic town of Falmouth.

st Mawes Castle is far too pretty to be dismissed as just another of those austere, artillery fortresses built on the orders of Henry viii to persuade the French and spanish that invading Britain was a bad idea.

Shaped like a clover leaf and embellished with friendly gargoyles, it looks across the Fal estuary towards rugged Pendennis Castle. As castles go, it’s not remotely frightening. The architects of the day made sure it was built with the finest masonry and no detail was spared on the exquisite stonework. Sloping flowerbeds are planted with red-hot pokers, fuchsias and subtropical spikes of echium. With such an outstanding setting, it’s no wonder that this is a popular venue for weddings.

Fort House The Fort House shares the castle’s incomparable views, especially from the terrace reached via French doors from the dining room. The house is nestled into the hillside just above the castle, with Pendennis Point to the west and St Anthony Head to the east and is a perfect base for exploring the scenic Cornish coastal walks. From Fort House, keen walkers can join the nearby south west coastal path or enjoy a leisurely stroll down to the picturesque fishing village of St Mawes with its yacht-filled harbour just ten minutes away. Beautiful Cornish beaches, village pubs and restaurants are all within easy reach of this spacious house.

a fascinatingly varied site to visit, Carisbrooke Castle has been the key to the isle of Wight’s security for more than nine centuries.

This great hilltop-crowning fortress has a keep to climb for panoramic views, a colourful history and of course the famous Carisbrooke donkeys. Charles 1 was imprisoned here during 1647-48. A more recent royal occupant was Princess Beatrice, daughter of Queen Victoria, who opened the museum at Carisbrooke in 1898. Her private garden is now a charming and peaceful retreat in keeping with its original 1913 layout.

Walk along the ramparts at dusk and let your imagination conjure thoughts of the advancing spanish armada.

tHe BoWling green aPartMent A holiday at The Bowling Green Apartment is something very special – you are King or Queen of your very own castle for the duration of your stay. Housed within the castle walls, there are panoramic views over the main courtyard and the ancient ramparts to the gatehouse. Until late Victorian times the building was the officers’ quarters and from the windows of this second floor apartment you can also see Princess Beatrice’s former home. Guests have access to most of the castle grounds out of opening hours. The apartment is named after the bowling green constructed for the recreation of Charles I.

Osborne HouseAfter first visiting Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, Queen Victoria wrote: ‘It is impossible to imagine a prettier spot’. The Queen and her husband Albert purchased the property with an estate of 342 acres and re-modelled it to form an exquisite residence, but primarily, a family home.

Appuldurcombe HouseThe shell of Appuldurcombe was once the grandest house on the Isle of Wight and is still an important example of English baroque architecture. It stands in ‘Capability’ Brown-designed grounds. An exhibition of photographs and prints depict the house and its history.

osborne was Queen victoria’s family home for over 50 years. it remains an extraordinary legacy to the long-reigning monarch and an intimate insight to her character and the private life of the victorian royal Family.

Among the many opulent interiors in the house, the Durbar Room, built in the 1890s in recognition of her title as Empress of India is a tour de force. The Queen’s private beach has recently been opened to visitors and you can enjoy many a sunny day sitting in the traditional deckchairs looking out on a view that reminded Prince Albert of the Bay of Naples. Queen Victoria was always loathe to leave Osborne – a feeling shared by anyone holidaying at Pavilion Cottage.

New for 2014: The Swiss Cottage was a full size ‘wendy’ house built at Prince Albert’s request for his nine children to practice skills that their father thought would make them better people and rulers. In April 2014, this will re-open to the public after major works and visitors will have the chance to experience this unique childhood for themselves.

Pavilion CottageThe early 1900s cottage brims with period character and once served as a cricket pavilion for use by the young officer cadets at the Royal Naval College which was opened in 1903 following the gift of the house to the Nation by Edward VII on his coronation day. Until the closure of the college in 1921, the cadets would line the large, south facing verandah to cheer on their colleagues engaged in that most gentlemanly of sports. The verandah is now the perfect spot to enjoy a peaceful summer evening with good food and drinks. It sleeps four, with parking for two cars.

Carisbrooke CastleDominating the surrounding countryside from its hilltop location just south of Newport, it was where Charles 1 was held captive after his defeat in the Civil War. Visit the Edwardian-style Princess Beatrice garden and don’t forget the famous Carisbrooke donkeys.

Yarmouth CastleThis is the last of the coastal defence forts built on the orders of Henry VIII. On fine days it now provides a wonderful spot for picnics with great views across the Solent.

1066 is the most famous date in British history. the Battle of Hastings shaped our culture like no other event before or since – and staying at Battle abbey places you in the centre of history.

Imagine the drama as 6,000-7,000 foot soldiers of the Anglo Saxon army clustered around Kind Harold in the near impenetrable shield formation. But as every school child knows it was William of Normandy who was the victor and Battle Abbey was founded four years later to commemorate the victory and atone for the appalling loss of life. There is so much to see and experience (an audio-visual presentation works brilliantly if you’re eight or 80) but nothing beats soaking up the atmosphere as the evening sun lights up the Great Gatehouse – one of the finest in England.

soutH lodgeSouth Lodge is the former gatehouse, which sleeps four and comes with its own fully enclosed garden. This enchanting stone cottage sits adjacent to the famous battlefield. It is situated in a secluded garden, partly surrounded by woodland, and is ideal as a weekend getaway or a base for a longer holiday on the South Coast.

Guests have free access to the battlefield and, during public opening hours, can enjoy a walk through the Abbey grounds to the picturesque high street in the thriving, historic town of Battle.

if you want a crash course in english History from Henry viii to the 20th century you will adore Walmer Castle.

Built in 1539 by Henry VIII to deal with any threat of invasion from the English Channel, Walmer Castle went on to serve as a rural retreat for distinguished public figures including Pitt the younger, Wellington, Palmerston, Churchill and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. All these luminaries enjoyed the right to reside at Walmer because they were holders of an ancient title, Lord Warden and Admiral of the Cinque Ports, created in the 13th century. Now purely an honorary and ceremonial position, the Lord Warden was once one of the most powerful figures in England.

successive lord Wardens adapted and put their stamp upon the castle making it into the comfortable home it is today.

However, it is the spirit of the Duke of Wellington who held the post of Lord Warden for 23 years that particularly lives on at Walmer. The yellow chintz armchair in which he died in 1852 can still be seen, as can his preference for unsophisticated surroundings illustrated by his spartan campaign bed with original horsehair mattress and bedding. The gardens have undergone significant development over the years and visitors today can enjoy the Queen Mother’s garden, designed by Penelope Hobhouse, and commissioned by English Heritage to celebrate her 95th birthday.

audley end is a palace in all but name. Fittingly, the earl of suffolk, who finished rebuilding the house in 1614, hoped to entice royalty up the pretty drive that passes over a man-made lake, but after falling foul of the law he subsequently fell from grace.

Today, Audley is full of life – from the working kitchens to the burgeoning gardens and from the popular children’s play area to the historic stables. This is one of England’s grandest stately homes, with so much to do and see that staying at Cambridge Lodge offers many experiences. The stable block, occupying a fascinating building in its own right, is a revelation.

New for Spring 2014: The Nursery Suite, the private domain of the 3rd Lord Braybrooke’s eight children and their entourage of nursemaids and governesses, will be recreated as it was in the 1830s. Plus, the unique Coal Gallery, which provided warmth and hot water to the mansion’s upper floors, will be revealed, and many of the great mansion’s ‘front of house’ State Rooms will also be re-presented.

CaMBridge lodgeCambridge lodge is an elegant two-storey Victorian gate house built in 1842 at the entrance to the property. With stunning views of the tranquil lake and manicured lawns of the estate, large bay windows also look out over a private formal garden. kirby Hall is one of england’s greatest elizabethan and 17th century houses. although this vast mansion is partly roofless the great Hall and state rooms remain intact, refitted and redecorated to authentic 17th and 18th century specifications.

Sir Humphrey Stafford inherited the hall in 1548 and began expanding it 22 years later, but it was Sir Christopher Hatton, Elizabeth I’s Lord Chancellor, who completed the job to such meticulous effect. Hatton regarded the Queen as a saint and hoped that Kirby would be one of her shrines. It did not work out that way but what remains is magical, surrounded by park land on the east side and the formal West Garden on the other, described in the 1690s as “ye finest garden in England”. The Great Hall, which Lady Hatton said was “very fine”, is impressive as are the pair of bay windows at the end of the State Suite.

PeaCoCk CottageTake the long private drive that cuts through the meadows, then on to an avenue of horse chestnut trees planted to mark George V’s Silver Jubilee and there, beneath two fine entrance arches, you’ll find Peacock Cottage. It was built in the 20th century and sleeps 4 comfortably with all mod-cons, plus parking for two cars.

When closing time arrives and the public vacate the Hall and its grounds and just the peacocks remain, you are left in total peace to enjoy the grounds at your leisure.

Peacock Cottage gives you direct access to the ruins and the grounds of kirby Hall at any time.

Lyddington Bede HouseBeside the church of a picturesque ironstone village, this medieval building was made into almshouses in the 17th century. Visitors can wander through the rooms and view the former bishop’s Great Chamber with its beautifully carved ceiling cornice.

Rushton Triangular LodgeThis delightful triangular building, designed by Sir Thomas Tresham (father of one of the Gunpowder Plotters) and constructed between 1593 and 1597. A testament to Tresham’s Roman Catholicism: the number three, symbolising the Holy Trinity is apparent everywhere.

the imposing shell of the remodelled family home of Bess of Hardwick, one of the most remarkable and formidable women of elizabethan england.

Married four times (aged only 15 at her first wedding), she survived all her husbands and then returned to her family estate, whereupon she built two large houses at Hardwick, the Old Hall and the New Hall. When she died in 1608, her son, William Cavendish, founder of the Devonshire clan, opted to live at Chatsworth instead of Hardwick, and over time the Old Hall has become a ruin. Although roofless, you can still go to the fourth floor to view the surviving decorative plasterwork, as well as exploring the kitchen and service rooms, all brought to life by the excellent audio tour.

east lodgeBuilt into the walls of Hardwick Old Hall, East Lodge is imposing from the outside, but inside you will find a spacious and welcoming two bedroom holiday cottage. At one time, it was a laundry before being refitted in 1924 as the cottage for the night watchman. With a master bedroom offering views over Hardwick Hall wand a cosy sitting room with wood burner, East Lodge is the perfect family base in summer and a cosy hideaway in winter.

the Cistercians were a great ecclesiastical organisation and rievaulx was one of the wealthiest abbeys in the country, so it’s no wonder Henry viii admired and coveted it.

The abbey was founded in 1132 and when St Aelred became abbot 15 years later, there were 140 choir monks and 500 lay brothers. How that band of brothers would have appreciated the thick slices of Wensleydale cake and piping hot tea on sale today in the English Heritage café. The walk from Rievaulx to Helmsley Castle, another English Heritage property, can be done in less than an hour but only the blinkered would do it so quickly. Dilly-dallying along the three-mile trek is essential. Author James Herriot lived near Rievaulx and described the view over the Vale of York as “the finest in England”. There can be few more dramatic, soul-searching scenes than the sun setting behind Rievaulx.

reFeCtory Cottage Refectory Cottage is in the grounds of the abbey amidst the rolling North yorkshire countryside and in the valley of the ancient River Rye. The cottage was built using reclaimed abbey stone and close inspection reveals the medieval masons’ marks on many of the blocks used in its construction. The interior of the cottage is spacious and comfortable for a family holiday so you may be tempted to simply stay at home and catch glimpses of the abbey through the cottage windows. Access to the abbey is through a gate from the cottage’s private garden. It is adjacent to a cottage belonging to a local working estate.

Picturesquely set beneath a wooded slope of the Cleveland Hills, Mount grace Priory is among the most unusual and important of english Heritage’s monastic sites.

Founded in 1398, the priory was the last monastery to be built in yorkshire before the Reformation and is regarded as the best preserved and most accessible of the 10 Carthusian monasteries in England.

It was a tough place to be and to give the visitor an insight into a monk’s life, one of the cells has been reconstructed to show what it might have looked like in the 14th century. This is really two sites in one because of the Manor House, which was built in 1654 from the ruins of the monks’ guest house before being extended by Sir Lowthian Bell at the turn of the 20th century. The discovery in the last five years of original William Morris wallpaper in the drawing room showcases the craftsmanship of the Arts and Craft movement. Its gardens are beautifully preserved and attract a huge variety of wild life.

Prior’s lodge Prior’s Lodge is a charming single storey stone built cottage which sleeps four, with views over the pond in one direction and the ecclesiastical ruins in the other. It’s hard to conceive of a more serene setting for your holiday than the tranquil grounds of Mount Grace Priory. Whether enjoying the clear summer sunshine or exploring the frosty ruins in winter, lasting memories are surely made in such a special place. It is ideally placed for those wanting to explore the North york Moors and the Cleveland Way National Trail.

the vast and rambling remains of the palatial 19th-century mansion are surrounded by magnificent landscaped gardens, which still contain huge stone fountains.

This is a grand house stripped of its gilded interiors without ever losing its bravado. Just to make the point, the wonderfully flamboyant Perseus and Andromeda fountain fires water triumphantly into the air at different times of the day, while the garden is maintained to the highest of standardsfollowing a major English Heritage project. CleaningOur housekeepers will clean and prepare the cottage prior to your stay. The property is then yours to enjoy and the housekeeper will not return unless a problem arises. This applies to all breaks, including two week holidays.

linenAll beds have duvets and will be made up with white linen for your arrival. Extra blankets will be available. Two hypo-allergenic pillows are provided in each cottage. One hand towel and one bath towel per person per week are provided. Extra hand towels will be provided where there is a lavatory separate from bath or shower rooms and in the kitchen. Sufficient tea towels will be provided in the kitchen. An extra set of linen and towels willbe left if your booking is for two weeks. Towels are not provided for swimming or beach use. We regret that linen is not provided for cots.

Heating and ligHtingAll electricity, gas and oil are included during your stay. We do ask that you respect the use of these services.

Fuel For FiresAn open fire is an important part of a holiday in the country, particularly in the cooler months. The availability of an open fire or a multi-fuel or woodburning stove is shown in our brochure/website. Where one is provided, you will find matches, firelightersand sufficient wood for the start of your stay. Information will beprovided in the cottage on where to purchase additional supplies.

reFuse and reCyClingMost of our cottages are located at the heart of an English Heritage property where only trade refuse collections areavailable to us. If recycling facilities are available onsite our housekeeper will explain where these are. Where thereare no recycling facilities on the site, details of the nearest recycling centre will be provided. We request that you take bottles, plastics and other recyclable materials with you at the end of your stay.

Provisions and suPPliesOn arrival there will be a welcome hamper that will include tea, coffee, milk, bread, eggs, orange juice, marmalade or jam, cheese and a bottle of wine. Where possible goods will be of local origin.

A small selection of toiletries will also be available including soap, shampoo, shower or bath gel. Cleaning materials and toilet paper will be provided for the start of your holiday.

aCCess and loCation One of the many attractions of staying in an English Heritage holiday cottage is their outstanding location and architectural interest. This can mean that access is varied and may at times be over unmade roads, or that the interiors designed for another age, are more irregular than modern buildings. For instance stairs may be steeper or ceilings lower. But if you have any particular concerns in these areas, please discuss them before booking. Extreme winter weather could make some of our cottages difficult to reach. In these rare circumstances we will do our best to notify you in advance.

If you plan to use your mobile telephone please check signal strength with our reservation staff. Our Housekeepers cannot receive or deliver messages to you during your stay as most do not live on site. Our cottages do not have internet access.

englisH Heritage ProPerty visits Where possible, and subject to staff availability, guests will be offered a brief introduction to the English Heritage site on which they are staying. This will cover the key points of interest and a brief historical background. Holiday cottage guests and English Heritage members have free of charge access to all English Heritage sites during normal opening hours. Please check the opening hours of the site of your chosen cottage or any site you wish to visit carefully before making your booking.

events Special events are held at many English Heritage properties throughout the year. Depending on the location of your holiday cottage, they will have more or less impact on your stay. We will

always do our very best to tell you about any event during your stay at the time of booking. If an event is scheduled after you have made your booking, and it will impact on your holiday, we will endeavour to notify you and give you the option to cancel without charge. All guests staying at a cottage whilst an English Heritage public event is taking place will be given a discounted or complimentary ticket during their stay.

CanCellation or CurtailMent Having to cancel or curtail your holiday can be very distressing. We do not offer insurance cover as a part of our cottage rental programme and do recommend you arrange your own holiday insurance.

Country liFe Some English Heritage holiday cottages are in very rural areas where sounds created by the rural economy such as harvesting or haymaking, or by animals can sometimes be heard, and at certain times late into the evening or in the early morning. Insects and pests can be a nuisance at some times of year and even the best housekeeping standards may not be able to totallyeradicate these.

sHort Breaks There are two lengths of short break: 3-nights starting on a Friday and 4-nights starting on a Monday. If you would like to book a short break starting on a different night, please contact our customer service team for availability. All short breaks must be at least two nights duration.

Supplements may be charged on certain cottages on specific dates where demand is high due to a special event locally. English Heritage reviews its pricing annually and may move cottages up or down its price bands.

terMs and Conditions oF Booking

For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, English Heritage means The Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England of 1 Waterhouse Square, 138-142 Holborn, London EC1N 2ST.

Booking a Holiday Cottage 1. agreement 1.1 These terms and conditions, which are printed in the

Brochure, form the basis of the agreement between you and English Heritage for the holiday rental of the Property named in the Invoice/Confirmation (“the Property”) together with all other conditions set out in the Brochure.

1.2 you must be over 18 years of age to make a booking and accept full responsibility for all payments due and for the consequences of any actions of all persons who will use the Property during your holiday. If payment is made by credit/debit card by telephone, you will have deemed to have read all the Booking Conditions and agreed to be bound by them.

2. Booking 2.1 English Heritage will confirm the booking on receipt

of a deposit of one third of the holiday rental fee (“the Deposit”).

2.2 Once English Her itage has confirmed the booking from you and has received the Deposit then an agreement exists between us on these terms and conditions.

2.3 English Her itage will accept a provisional booking and reserve the Property for your holiday provided that we receive the Deposit from you within 7 working days.

2.4 If the holiday is due to start within 8 weeks of the date of booking the total of the holiday rental fee is payable at the time of booking.

2.5 No subsequent changes may be made to any part of the Booking without English Heritage’s express written approval.

3. english Heritage’s right to refuse/terminate a booking

3.1 English Heritage reserves the right to refuse any booking.

3.2 English Heritage reserves the right to terminate this Agreement and ask you and your guests to leave immediately if this is deemed necessary by English Heritage as a result of your behaviour or that of your guests or any other material breach by you of the terms of this Agreement.

4. Final Payment 4.1 The balance of the holiday rental fee less any

Deposit is due 8 weeks before the start of the holiday. English Heritage will not send you a reminder or a receipt unless you have requested one and sent us a stamped addressed envelope at the time of booking. If the balance is not received on time English Heritage reserves the right to cancel your booking and retain the Deposit.

4.2 English Heritage’s prices contain VAT where appropriate. If VAT rates change we reserve the right to amend our prices accordingly.

5. tenancy 5.1 This Agreement is for the purposes of a holiday

rental only and does not create the relationship of Landlord and Tenant between you and English Heritage. you will not be entitled to a tenancy or to any other form of statutory security of tenure as a result of this Agreement.

6. description and Facilities 6.1 English Heritage will endeavour to inform you at

the time of booking of any changes to the brochure or website description of the Property or of any

events which may be taking place at its site near the Property during your holiday. English Heritage does not accept any liability for any works or activity of any sort occurring on its premises adjoining or neighbouring the Property.

CHanging or CanCelling a Booking 7. Change of Booking 7.1 English Heritage will endeavour to assist you in a

transfer of a booking to an alternative property or an alternative date at your request and an administrative charge of £50 will be made in such a case in addition to any increased rent due on the alternative property.

7.2 Changes cannot be accepted within one month of the start date of the holiday. If a change results in a reduction in the length of the holiday it will be regarded as a cancellation.

8. Cancellation 8.1 you may cancel your booking at any time provided

you do so in writing to English Heritage but you will remain liable for the full balance of the holiday rental fee. English Heritage will seek to re-let the Property for all or part of the booking period and, if successful, will refund the money paid by you less an administrative charge of £50.

8.2 English Heritage reserves the right to re-let at a discount or for a shorter period in which case we will pay the refund or a proportion of it if the Property is re-let for a shorter period, less the discount and administration charge.

8.3 English Heritage does not operate any scheme of cancellation or travel insurance and you should obtain your own insurance cover for the holiday.

8.4 English Heritage reserves the right to cancel the booking at any time in the event of circumstances beyond the reasonable control of English Heritage or if in the reasonable opinion of English Heritage it is necessary to undertake essential works at the Property. In these unlikely circumstances English Heritage will endeavour to offer a suitable alternative English Heritage holiday. If no such alternative holiday is agreed between us then English Heritage will refund in full all money received by us for the booking. English Heritage will not otherwise be liable for any loss incurred by you as a result of the cancellation.

during your stay 9. arrival and departure times 9.1 The holiday rental period begins at 3.00pm (5.00pm

at Pool House, Witley Court) on the first day of the booking period and ends at 10.00am on the day of the departure. If your stay extends beyond this period you may be subject to a charge for the additional days.

10. occupation of the Property 10.1 you must not use the Property for any purpose

other than that of a holiday. Functions, celebrations, ceremonies and parties are not permitted.

10.2 The number of people staying in the Property must not exceed the maximum number stated in the brochure or website and the use of tents or sleeping in motor vehicles adjacent to the Property is not permitted.

10.3 you must not use the Property for any activity or in such a way as to cause nuisance or annoyance to English Heritage, its visitors or its neighbours.

10.4 y ou and your guests must comply with any reasonable regulations relating to the Property, or the site within which the Property is situated, which will be communicated to you on your arrival at the Property.

11. your obligations 11.1 you agree to keep the Property and its contents in

the same condition and repair as on your arrival at the Property and to pay to English Heritage upon written demand any costs incurred in making good any loss or damage to the Property or its contents caused by your action or omission or that of any guest or animal accompanying you.

11.2 you may be required to pay a security deposit before your holiday start date. If this applies to your booking you will be advised at the time of booking. The security deposit will be refunded within two weeks of the end of your holiday, less any reasonable costs for making good any loss or damage to the property or its contents during your holiday or for any additional cleaning that may be required.

11.3 No pet is permitted at a property other than a maximum number of two well behaved dogs at those properties indicated in the brochure. Dogs must stay downstairs, remain off all furniture and be kept under control at all times.

A charge of £30 per stay is made for each dog (there is no charge for guide dogs or hearing dogs). If you use a guide dog or a hearing dog and wish to stay at one of our properties where dogs are not normally permitted, please discuss with our reservation staff, who will make every effort to accommodate your needs within localised property restrictions. All dog waste must be removed from the property, gardens and grounds prior to the end of your holiday. If extra cleaning is required as a result of dogs at the property an additional cleaning fee will be charged (see 11.5).

11.4 you must allow anyone authorised by English Heritage to enter the Property during the holiday. English Heritage will endeavour to give you reasonable notice of such a visit except in an emergency when immediate access must be allowed.

11.5 you must ensure that the property is left in a clean and tidy condition at the end of your holiday. English Heritage reserves the right to charge a supplementary fee of £100 for any additional cleaning we consider necessary following your holiday at the property. In the event that we decide to charge you for additional cleaning we will write to you detailing the additional cleaning required within 7 days of the end of your stay.

12. Complaints 12.1 If you have any cause for complaint during

your holiday at the Property please notify the Housekeeper who will make all reasonable efforts to assist and resolve the issue. English Heritage will not normally make any refund or recompense in respect of a complaint made after departure if the complaint was not made known to the Housekeeper during the holiday rental period.

13. lost Property 13.1 English Heritage shall not be responsible for loss or

damage to any of your belongings or for any injuries sustained by you or any of your guests unless caused by the negligence or default of English Heritage.

Personal data 14. data Protection 14.1 All personal data provided to English Heritage will

be held and processed in accordance with the requirements of the 1998 Data Protection Act. We will keep your personal data safe and secure.

We will not share it with other organisations without your knowledge and consent, unless required by law to do so.
