Featherstone Cottage has thick cut-stone walls and a steep-pitched roof covered with stone slab tiles. The roof was inspected by, Joseph Jenkins, a national slate roof expert, and he stated that he had never seen a roof like this one in the United States. He had only seen similar stone roofs in Europe.

The interior of the cottage has an open floor plan with 'quarter-sawn' hardwood floors and a large stone log-burning fireplace as the centerpiece on the first floor.
