    - The military wasn t being paid the money they were promised, so Tiberius general Germanicuswas sent to attack the Rhine to garner goods to be paid to military.

    - In 22, Tiberius shared tribunician authority with his son Drusus and didn t do much. After Drususdied, Triberius yet again didn t want to do anything.

    - Tiberius then depended on Sejanus, a servant of the imperial family, to do most of the work.Eventually Sejanus began to take power, which was eventually noticed by Tiberius who then hadhim executed. Other trials of treason were held.

    - Tiberius had stopped ruling, and let the senate do much of the work. He died to the joy of theRomans, and in his will Caligula (Germanicus son) and Gemellus (his grandson) were given coprinceps, but Caligula took this away from him.

    Caligula- Successful general and popular with the Romans.- He was popular because Germanicus was popular, and because Tiberius was hated.- He gave bonuses to Praetorian guard, destroyed treason trial papers of Tiberius and helped the

    people out with spectacles for the people and easing taxes.- He got ill, and after that all changed. 37 AD He killed some people.- Public Reform

    o Aided those who had lost in fires, abolished some taxes, gave out prizes.o Restored democratic elections.o However, also executed people without full trials.

    - 38 Ad financial crisiso His political spending wasted the treasury, and began killing wealthy for estates. He put

    taxes on new things. Basically, anywhere where money was to be had, he would get acut.

    - Constructiono Completed temple of Augutus and Theatre of Pompey. Aqueducts. New roads, etc.

    - Senate accustomed to ruling without emperor because of Tiberius, so they clashed. He began to

    try and investigate senators of treason, like Tiberius.- Western Expansion trying to expand Britannia.- He became insane and did outrageous things, and incestuous.- Overall, he was bad for the Senate and equestrians (high class). Praetorian guard eventually

    killed him.-
