Newgate Farm has this morning announced that Group One winners Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) and Flying Artie

(Artie Schiller) have been retired from racing and will stand at the farm in 2017.

Meanwhile, they have also announced that Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Capitalist (Written Tycoon) is now fully booked for the forthcoming breeding season.

A winner of the Inglis Nursery (RL, 1000m) on debut in December 2015, Extreme Choice captured the Chairman’s Stakes (Gr 3, 1000m) at Caulfield last February before landing the first of his two Group One victories in the Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at only his third

start, with his Mick Price-trained stablemate Flying Artie in second. “He’s just a jet,” winning jockey Craig Newitt said following that Blue

Diamond Stakes victory. “He’s like a ten-year-old - all he wants to do is please you. He’s got a motor and a half. I was caught four and five-wide then, but I knew I only had one corner to go around, so I just had to keep him balanced.”

Having finished midfield in last year’s Golden Slipper Stakes, Extreme Choice resumed as a three-year-old to defeat older horses, including the Group One winners Chautauqua (Encosta De Lago), Buffering (Mossman) and Lucky Hussler (Husson), in the Moir Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) at Moonee Valley.

The son of Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) would then have three more starts, finishing fifth in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m) before a third in the Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) and last weekend finished midfield in the Newmarket Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m) at Flemington.

Bred by Bell River Thoroughbreds, Extreme Choice was purchased by Mick Price Racing for $100,000 at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and retires the winner of four of his eight career starts with his prize money totalling $1,736,250.

Flying Artie meanwhile retires from racing having won three of his seven starts and placing in a further three for prize money of $1,281,000.

A $50,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase by Paul Whelan, Flying Artie finished second on debut in the 2015 Maribyrnong Plate (Gr 3, 1000m) before he took out the Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G)

(G 3, 1100m) at his second start. Stepped up to Group One company he then finished one and three quarter lengths second in the Blue Diamond Stakes before finishing third in the Golden Slipper Stakes.

Resuming as a three-year-old, Flying Artie won last October’s Blue Sapphire Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) before he scored a one and a quarter length victory over Astern (Medaglia d’Oro) in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, with Star Turn (Star Witness) a close third. The colt’s last run came last month when he finished seventh in the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m).

"The horse has always been good," Price said following Flying Artie’s Coolmore Stud Stakes victory. "He's had his excuses in the Blue Diamond but today just franks him as a stud colt."

On the news that both colts had been retired, trainer Mick Price said that they would be missed in his stable.

"It has been a privilege to train two colts as genuinely exceptional as Extreme Choice and Flying Artie,” said Mick Price. “They will be missed in the stable, however they retire to stud as colts that have the potential to make a major impact on the Australian breeding industry."

Newgate Farm’s Bruce Slade said it was an honour to add these two colts to their roster that includes fellow Group One winners Criterion (Sebring), Dissident (Sebring), Sizzling (Snitzel), Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock) and The Factor (War Front).

"We feel honoured to be standing these very special colts. They are the elite Australian two and three-year-old sprinters of their generation, the cream of the crop. They are horses with the exactly the right profiles to develop into Champion Australian sires,” said Slade.

The 2017 fees for both Extreme Choice and Flying Artie will be announced at a later date.

Capitalist will stand his first season at the Hunter Valley Farm for $55,000 (inc GST) with his book now closed. Last year’s champion two-year-old won four of his five career starts as a juvenile last season including the Breeders’ Plate (Listed, 1000m) on debut and the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) at the Gold Coast in January. Following

a second in the Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m), the son of Written Tycoon (Iglesia) scored a half-length victory over Yankee Rose (All American) in last year’s Golden Slipper Stakes.

Since Newgate Farm announced his fee, the operation said that they have had a huge amount of interest in him.

"The demand for his services have been intense since announcing his fee a couple of weeks ago. We feel humbled that virtually every top breeder in the nation will be supporting him this season,” said Slade.

Summer Passage (Snitzel) could be set for the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Randwick next month after the two-year-old colt won the Sistema Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Ellerslie at just his third start.

Stand-in jockey Blake Shinn, who replaced Zac Purton on Summer Passage after the meeting was postponed from Saturday, predicted a bright future for the two-year-old colt.

Summer Passage won the Matamata Slipper (Listed, 1200m) last start and backed up that performance with a three quarter length victory yesterday after jumping from the outside barrier in the ten horse field.

The Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott-trained Summer Passage defeated the Stephen McKee-trained Star Treasure (Lonhro), with the Matamata Breeders Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Gold Fever (Savabeel) finishing third.

Princess Rihanna (Showcasing), a stablemate of Summer Passage, finished fourth.

“He’s an exceptional two-year-old and it’s a big thrill to get my first Group One winner overseas,” Shinn said.

“I’m delighted to have got the opportunity to ride such an exciting horse. I didn’t expect to be here today and I feel for Zac who has missed out due to unfortunate circumstances.”

Shinn said Summer Passage was able to show early speed and then quicken again when asked in the straight, a sign of a quality horse.

“I took the initiative from the wide draw to go forward and kept him in a comfortable rhythm,” Shinn said.

“He showed a great turn of foot 300 out to put the race to bed.”Consideration is being given to running Summer Passage in the

$1,000,000 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick on 1 April.“We’ll talk to Blake and the owners and then make a decision, it’s

certainly on the radar,” O’Sullivan said.“This has been a tremendous thrill, it’s a great result. The first time we

ran him up at speed he showed a lot of natural ability so it’s pretty special for Andrew and I and the team at home.”

An $800,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate from the Highgrove Stud draft by Wexford Stables, the Hermitage Thoroughbreds-owned Summer Passage (2 c Snitzel - Subsequent by Encosta De Lago) has won twice at stakes level from just three starts after finishing second on debut. The stallion prospect yesterday took his earnings to NZ$155,250.

Summer Passage is out of winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Subsequent, who is a sister to Listed winner Order Of The Sun and a half-sister to fellow Listed winner Get To Work (Snippets). Another half-sister, the unraced Sequential (Lion Hunter), is also the dam of Hong Kong-performed, Melbourne Listed winner Excitable Boy (More Than Ready).

Summer Passage’s third dam is Subterfuge (Machiavellian), the dam of nine winners including Shania Dane (Danehill), Scintillation (Danehill) and Risk Aversion (Encosta De Lago).

Summer Passage is the first foal to race from Subsequent, with her yearling colt by Sebring (More Than Ready) sold for $55,000 to Queensland trainer Stuart Kendrick from the Highgrove Stud draft at the recent Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. Subsequent has a weanling filly by Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) and was covered again by the same stallion on 20 September last year.

The colt’s breeder, Highgrove Stud’s Ron Gilbert, was delighted with the two-year-old’s Group One victory.

“He was a very good sort,’’ Gilbert said. “The good yearlings tend to pick themselves and this bloke certainly did that. They’re standouts from day one, there’s never an issue with them, they’re very popular with potential buyers and they never turn a hair.”

Gilbert, who also bred Subsequent, said Summer Passage coped well with the arduous sales process at the Easter Sale last year.

“They’re always out of their box during the inspection days and this fellow was like that at the Easter sale, but he was as strong on his last inspection as he was on his first, and only the good ones are like that,” he said.

Summer Passage’s Group One victory also continues a remarkable run of success for Arrowfield Stud stallion Snitzel, who is on track to claim the record for the most two-year-old winners in a season. The Sistema Stakes winner is one of 56 stakes winners and one of seven individual Group One winners for his sire.

Snitzel’s other Group One winners are Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) winner Shamus Award, Hot Snitzel, Sweet Idea, Snitzerland, Sizzling and Wandjina.

He has 44 yearlings catalogued at next month’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Chenille Scores Emotional Auckland Cup Win For Pike

Staying mare Chenille (Pentire) has broken through at the elite level with a strong performance to win yesterday’s Auckland Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) at Ellerslie after trainer Tony Pike became the beneficiary of the postponed meeting.

Pike had intended to scratch Chenille from the Auckland Cup due to the wet track on Saturday, but when the meeting was called off due to the unsafe conditions and moved to yesterday, the Cambridge trainer took the chance to run Chenille in the NZ$500,000 race.

Chenille, who showed her talent last April when winning the Hawke’s Bay Gold Cup (Listed, 2200m), made it two wins in succession after being successful in her Auckland Cup lead up over 2200 metres at Ellerslie on 4 March.

The five-year-old defeated El Pistola (El Hermano) by three quarters of a length, with a long neck back to Jacksstar (Zed) in third.

It was an emotional win for Pike, who shares in the ownership syndicate as does his father Wayne, who is battling ill health, and his mother Vicki.

“I’m just glad we got a second chance and the track came back,” he said. “It’s a huge buzz for my parents.

“Leith (Innes) rode her perfectly and he got her to drop her head down the back and she was bolting on the corner.”

Chenille improved from midfield with 600 metres to run and she came widest into the straight to hit the lead early in the run home.

“She looked a good thing on the turn,” said Pike, who prepared Rock Diva (Lucky Unicorn) to win the Auckland Cup in 2015.

“She probably got to the front too soon, but she’s a very good staying mare.”

Pike, who bred Chenille with parents Wayne and Vicki, said he would assess the likely strength of the Sydney Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) before deciding whether to send Chenille to Australia for next month’s Group One staying feature.

“She’s entered in the Sydney Cup, but whether we head that way or not we’ll wait and see,” Pike said.

For Innes, it was the 28th Group One win of his career and his first in the Auckland Cup.

“I had so much faith in this mare, she’s a class horse,” Innes said.Chenille (5 m Pentire - Charmed by O’Reilly) was a NZ$55,000 New

Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale purchase by Sydney trainer Chris Waller from Pike’s Longlands Stud draft. She has won nine times with eight placings from 27 starts with prize money of NZ$548,375.

The Group One winner is out of unraced O’Reilly (Last Tycoon) mare Charmed, who is a three-quarter sister to Group Two winner Irlanda (O’Reilly) and stakes-placed Chandelier (O’Reilly). With four foals to race, Charmed has produced two winners, Chenille and Rich Hill Mile (Gr 2, 1600m) and Westbury Classic (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Chintz (Savabeel).

Chenille’s second dam is the Group One placed and Group Three winner Seraphic (Imposing) while her third dam is Group Two winner Torquay (Wharf) and this is also the family of stakes winners Queen Of Kiwi (Kinjite), Bird (Danasinga) and Classcoroc (Sirocco).

Charmed has an unraced three-year-old filly called Cashmere (Redwood), a two-year-old filly called Let’s Get Loud (Pour Moi) who is yet to race for Australian trainer Tony McEvoy and a colt by Makfi (Dubawi) born on 23 September last year. She was covered by Savabeel (Zabeel) last year.

Chenille became the 15th Group One winner and is one of 47 stakes winners for her sire Pentire (Be My Guest).

Lizzie L'Amour Takes Out Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes

Lightly raced mare Lizzie L’Amour’s victory in yesterday’s Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at Ellerslie has delivered her sire Zabeel (SIr Tristram) his 46th individual Group One victory.

The win by the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained mare means Zabeel surpasses his champion sire Sir Tristram’s (Sir Ivor) record of 45 Group One winners.

Lizzie L’Amour, who won the Waikato Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) four starts earlier, just held on to defeat the Adrian and Harry Bull-trained Benzini (Tale Of The Cat) by a half head.

third ahead of Consensus (Postponed) in fourth. The $1.70 favourite Kawi (Savabeel) was fifth after being held up for a run in the home straight.

When jockey Jonathan Riddell finally got Kawi into the clear, the placegetters had gained momentum, but the six-year-old gelding did not finish off as well as expected.

Lorna Moore, who bred and co-owns the mare with husband Gary, was finding it hard to take in what her star performer had just achieved after the Group One race.

“This is unbelievable and I’m just so thrilled,” Moore said.“It’s not only a Group One for us and Lizzie, but it’s also for Zabeel

who was tied with his sire Sir Tristram for individual Group One winners up until now so this one is for him as well.

“I would have been happy to just run a place but this means everything to a small breeder.”

Ridden by Matt Cameron, Lizzie L’Amour was able to settle in a midfield position early before starting to make her run rounding the home turn in a slowly run race.

“It was a very good effort as they went hard at it leaving the straight the first time and it got quite messy,” Forsman said.

“It actually panned out alright as they went a lot harder than we thought which suited her as she’s a real staying mare.

“It became a staying test with two of the better ones fighting it out.”Forsman admitted the stable had been confident of a good

performance yesterday.“We knew she was good enough, it was really a matter of whether

she was ready this time in or was it going to be in her next preparation,” he said.

“Thankfully she got the job done and is a Group One winner now. She’s got it all ahead of her so now it’s a matter of finding the right distance for her as if she can get to 2400 metres then a Caulfield Cup could be a spring target for her.”

Lizzie L’Amour (4 m Zabeel - Sabia by Sadler’s Wells) has won five of her 11 starts with two placings and prize money of NZ$221,960.

She is out of unplaced European-bred mare Sabia (Sadler’s Wells), who is a sister to Italy’s 2008 Champion Older Male, dual Group One winner Saddex and a three-quarter sister to Listed winner Visions Of Clarity (Sadler’s Wells).

The dam of three foals to race for two winners, with Lizzie L’Amour her first stakes winner, Sabia is also from the family of stallions Denon (Pleasant Colony), Aldebaran (Mr Prospector), Good Journey (Nureyev) and Spinning World (Nureyev).

Sabia, who was bought for 30,000gns by Ric Wylie at the 2005 Tattersalls December Mares Sales, has an unraced three-year-old called Fun Seeker (Darci Brahma) but has slipped to Ocean Park (Thorn Park), Poet’s Voice (Dubawi) and Shamexpress (O’Reilly) from 2013 to 2015 and was covered by Makfi (Dubawi) in 2016.

Lizzie L’Amour is one of 46 Group One winners for Zabeel and one of 163 stakes winners overall for the now deceased Cambridge Stud stallion.

Thee Auld Floozie Wins Westbury ClassicIn-form mare Thee Auld Floozie (Mastercraftsman) is likely to stay in

New Zealand this season after making it back-to-back Group victories yesterday with a narrow win in the Westbury Classic (Gr 2, 1400m) at Ellerslie.

The Stephen Marsh-trained five-year-old, who had won the Thorndon Mile (Gr 1, 1600m) at her previous start, was able to defeat the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained Mime (Mastercraftsman) by a nose.

Mime, who was ridden by Blake Shinn, gained a narrow rails run but could not hold off the Rosie Myers-ridden Thee Auld Floozie, with Lucyinrio (Captain Rio) a half-length back in third place.

Somethingvain (Falkirk), who is already Group Two placed, finished fourth.

“There wasn’t much in it, she was brave,” Marsh said. “She knocked up the last bit and she will be perfect for the Breeders’ Stakes at Te Aroha now, that’s the logical race for her.

“After that we’ll have a crack at the 2000 metre race (the Group Two Travis Stakes) at Te Rapa on 29 April and then she’ll go to the paddock.

“She’s a fully grown mare now and I think she’s going to be even better next season.”

Unplaced twice in eight starts this season, Thee Auld Floozie’s jockey Rosie Myers said the mare had become a personal favourite of hers.

Myers was also successful on Thee Auld Floozie in the J Swap Contractors Stakes (Listed, 1400m) last December.

“I love this horse – she’s got so much attitude and she tries so hard,” Myers said.

“She puts herself in the race and wants a fight. She won very well again.”

Thee Auld Floozie (5 m Mastercraftsman - Thee Auld Hussie by Spinning World) has now won ten of her 28 career starts and been placed second on seven occasions for a total career prize money of NZ$425,460.

The five-year-old mare is out of the dual Listed-winning mare Thee Auld Hussie (Spinning World), who has produced five named foals and the four to have raced are all winners.

Thee Auld Floozie’s second dam is the Group Three-winning and Group One-placed Desert Sun (Green Desert) mare Thee Old Dragon, who also produced four winners from her four foals to have raced and they are headed by Thee Auld Hussie. Thee Auld Hussie has a yearling filly by Pins (Snippets) and produced another filly, by Sacred Falls (O’Reilly), last year.

She was covered by Windsor Park Stud shuttle stallion Pour Moi (Montjeu) in 2016.

Meanwhile, Thee Auld Floozie is one of five Group One winners for her sire and former shuttler Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer), Kingston Hill, The Grey Gatsby, Amazing Maria and Valley Girl being his others.

Mastercraftsman has sired 35 individual stakes winners and stands at Coolmore Stud in County Tipperary for a fee of €25,000 in 2017.

Inglis March Thoroughbred Sale TodayThe Inglis March Thoroughbred Sale takes place at Oaklands Junction in Melbourne today. A total of 186 lots have been catalogued for the one-day auction, with the first 108 lots due to go through the ring from 11am, before a supplementary session consisting of 78 lots. Among the 108 lots due to sell in the first session of the mixed sale, 44 are broodmares, while racehorses, stallion prospects and yearlings have also been catalogued. Click here to view the online catalogue.

McDonald’s Appeal FailsThe appeal of jockey James McDonald against the severity of his suspension for a betting offence has been rejected by the Racing NSW appeals panel. McDonald was handed an 18-month ban for placing a $1,000 bet on his mount Astern (Medaglia d’Oro) to make a successful debut in December 2015. Evidence was heard at his hearing on Monday, and while the principal member of the appeals panel, Richard Beasley, was in favour of reducing the former Godolphin rider’s punishment, the other two members on the panel agreed with the steward’s interpretation of the rules. McDonald’s suspension will expire on 15 May next year.

Winx In Good OrderTrainer Chris Waller was left satisfied yesterday after champion mare Winx (Street Cry) worked nicely at Rosehill with jockey Hugh Bowman in the saddle ahead of tomorrow’s George Ryder Stakes (Gr 1, 1500m). The five-year-old mare arguably faces her toughest challenge in tomorrow’s race where she is up against Group One winners Chautauqua (Encosta De Lago) and Le Romain (Hard Spun). “Although the weather has been wet it hasn’t interrupted her preparation at all, topped off this morning with a nice gallop to put the finishing touches

on. Her condition is exactly where we want it to be,” Waller said. “It was great to hear Hugh’s comments after he dismounted saying she is a good as we can get her.”

Single Bullet Cleared To RunSingle Bullet (Not A Single Doubt) has been given the all-clear to run in the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) tomorrow after taking skin off his front legs in a stable mishap on Wednesday. Trainer Gary Portelli said the colt had undergone a veterinary inspection yesterday and been passed fit to run in the $3,500,000 race. Portelli said Single Bullet would be examined again today and if he had any doubts about his fitness, he would save him to run in the ATC Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) on 1 April at Randwick.

Purton To Miss SlipperHong Kong-based jockey Zac Purton has been forced to forfeit the ride on Teaspoon (Snitzel) in tomorrow’s Golden Slipper Stakes due to an ear infection. The condition saw Purton unable to ride at Happy Valley on Wednesday night and yesterday announced he would not be travelling to Sydney for the Rosehill meeting. Victorian jockey Dwayne Dunn will now ride the Michael Freedman-trained and Arrowfield Stud-owned Teaspoon who won the Widden Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) two starts ago before finishing second in the Sweet Embrace Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick on 25 February.

Wet To Suit InvaderThe likelihood of a wet track will play to the strengths of Invader (Snitzel) in the Golden Slipper Stakes, according to co-trainer Paul Snowden. The colt, who is raced by a partnership including Newgate Farm and the China Horse Club, ran a close second in the Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) on a Heavy 9 track at his last start and is currently rated a $23 chance with CrownBet. is the rain-affected track. The softer it is, the more he comes into contention," Snowden told Racing.com. "He's done nothing wrong; he's pleased us since the Todman. He ran extremely well, but that's the type of horse he is, he's very trustworthy and races above his potential, certainly bats above his weight and is a really honest performer."

Trapeze Artist Could Want FurtherTrainer Gerald Ryan expects Golden Slipper Stakes contender Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) to improve over longer distances in the future. The colt ran out a comfortable winner of the Black Opal Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Canberra at his last start and is currently a $34 chance for Saturday’s Group One, for which he has drawn barrier five. “I was excited to get any number up there (in the draw). It's my first Golden Slipper opportunity and if we're a chance of getting within the first three we're rapt," owner Bert Vieira said. "Gerald thinks he a 1400 metre horse. He thinks he's got a lot more potential for the future."

Tactics Change For MadeenatyGolden Slipper Stakes contender Madeenaty (Exceed And Excel), one of four two-year-olds for the Lindsay Park stable in the juvenile race, will be ridden quietly from barrier nine at Rosehill tomorrow. Co-trainers David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig informed Racing NSW stewards of the tactics change yesterday, as the Exceed And Excel (Danehill) filly has settled no further back than second in her five previous starts. A Listed winner on debut, Madeenaty led but was run down in the Festival Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Flemington last start on 4 March.

looking ahead to the spring with the three-year-old. Third in the Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) last year, Inference resumed with a fifth placing in the Hobartville Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) before coming from last to win the Randwick Guineas last start. “I think he is my horse for the spring because he is only going to keep getting better. He’s an exciting colt who was carrying a lot of condition at his first start (back from a spell) and he was still carrying a bit last start,” Berry told ANZ Bloodstock News.

Comin’ Through Ready For Step Up In DistanceJockey Craig Williams is looking forward to partnering Comin’ Through (Fastnet Rock) in the Rosehill Guineas this weekend. The three-year-old colt, who is a half-brother to the multiple Group One winner Criterion (Sebring), won the Carbine Club Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at Flemington last preparation and ran third in the Randwick Guineas most recently, and Williams expects the step up to 2000 metres to suit. "I was really delighted with his work (yesterday)," Williams said. "He worked with a Group One open-age performer and I was really happy with the way he responded to my riding. Once he pulled up, he didn't blow and he's ready for the (2000 metres).”

Murphy Confident Rosehill Will Hold UpRosehill track manager Lindsay Murphy is confident the course will be able to handle the forecast rain ahead of Saturday’s feature meeting. Sydney has been hit with persistent rain for the past fortnight, with Rosehill receiving 49.5 millimetres in the past week, while a further 20 millimetres is forecast for the next two days. "I don't think the meeting is in any danger, there is a solid base to the track, there is no squelching, there is no water on the track, it would take a lot more rain to put us in any jeopardy," Murphy told Racing.com. "At the moment we are a Heavy 9, we keep getting persistent showers, which we have had for 16 days now.” Click here to view the Rosehill acceptances. Tosen Stardom To Run In BlameyThe Darren Weir-trained Tosen Stardom (Deep Impact), who was a dual acceptor for races in Sydney and Melbourne tomorrow, will run in the

Blamey Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Flemington. The Japanese import, who was runner up to stablemate and Blamey Stakes rival Black Heart Bart (Blackfriars) first up in the Futurity Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m), will bypass the George Ryder Stakes (Gr 1, 1500m) tomorrow. The six-year-old entire, who was fourth in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at his only other Australian start last spring, will be ridden by Ben Allen in the Blamey Stakes.

Tabcorp FinedTabcorp has been fined $45,000,000 for breaching anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws. The Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) took Tabcorp to court over “consistent and extensive noncompliance” over the laws, with the Federal Court ruling that Tabcorp had failed to notify regulators of suspicious behaviour on 108 separate occasions over a period of more than five years. "Tabcorp has admitted that it had insufficient processes for consistent management oversight, assurance and operational execution of the money laundering program," AUSTRAC CEO Paul Jevtovic said.

RAD Allow Callow AppealThe Victorian Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board (RAD) on Thursday allowed an appeal by jockey Noel Callow over his careless riding suspension from Pakenham on 9 March. Callow was suspended for 15 meetings after causing interference aboard the Danny O'Brien-trained Ragazzo Del Corsa (Stratum), and though stewards felt the offence was in the high range of carelessness, they took into account his recent record and reduced the suspension to 12 meetings, commencing at midnight on 23 March.

Racing NSW Stewards Position VacantRacing NSW are seeking applicants for a vacant stipendiary stewards position. Stipendiary stewards are responsible for overseeing the reputation and integrity of thoroughbred racing in NSW and will report directly to the chairman of stewards Marc Van Gestel. Inquiries should be directed to Van Gestel, who can be contacted on (02) 9551 7500, and applications close on 31 March.

Kendrick Chasing Feature DoubleTrainer Stuart Kendrick is targeting a feature race double at the Gold Coast tomorrow. The Sunshine Coast-based trainer saddles both Divine Centuri (I Am Invincible), who ran second over 1100 metres at Doomben last weekend, in the Goldmarket Stakes (Listed, 1200m) and Margin Trader (Tavistock) in the $100,000 Gold Coast Stakes (1800m). "I had a good think before I accepted with (Divine Centuri) but it is a good race for her and I am happy she can back up in a week," Kendrick said. "I know it is a step up in class in the Gold Coast Stakes but on (Margin Trader’s) best Victorian form he won't be out of it."

Mair After Gold Coast StakesTrainer Mick Mair is also chasing victory in the valuable Gold Coast Stakes with Fast Arrow (Lion Heart). The six-year-old ran out a decisive winner over the same 1800 metre course and distance at his last start, and Mair is hopeful that he can go close with race conditions in his favour. "He carried 61 kilos when he won at the Gold Coast over 1800 metres at his last start and drops seven kilos here," Mair said. "He has been honest and tries all the time. This is harder than he has had to face for a while but he will like the distance and his wet track form is good." Randwick Barrier Trials RescheduledYesterday’s Randwick barrier trials, which were called off after the track was deemed to be unsafe, will be conducted on Tuesday. The barrier trials fields, which include Group One winner Astern (Medaglia d’Oro), will remain the same, with heat one to jump at 8.15am.

Lismore Abandoned, Grafton MovedYesterday’s postponed Grafton race meeting will now be held tomorrow in place of the programmed Lismore race meeting. Grafton was called off due to heavy overnight rain, while Lismore was abandoned prior to acceptances being taken as the state of the track and the club being on floodwatch.

Trangie Track InspectionRacing NSW stewards will conduct a track inspection today to determine whether tomorrow’s non-TAB Trangie race meeting goes ahead. An inspection of the Trangie racecourse on Wednesday found surface water on a number of sections of the track after 90 millimetres of rain falling this week. With favourable weather conditions predicted, stewards will inspect the track again today to decide whether the meeting can proceed.

Fee Change For QLD BookiesRacing Queensland has taken action after an independent review found that on-course bookmakers in the state were paying substantially more in fees than their New South Wales and Victorian counterparts. The regulatory body on Thursday issued a directive prohibiting racing clubs from charging on-course bookmakers stand fees. In the short-term, Racing Queensland will provide financial support to affected clubs and will review club funding arrangements to ensure that clubs can achieve a sustainable long-term business model.

Pentire is based at Rich Hill Stud.

Beach Freshen For DeviseTrainer Shaune Ritchie hopes a trip to the beach for New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) entrant Devise (Darci Brahma) can help turn the tables on rival Bonneval (Makfi) in the Trentham Group One race tomorrow. Devise finished third to Bonneval last start in the Lowland Stakes (Gr 3, 2100m) on 2 March and the pair meet again tomorrow. "We need to find a length on Bonneval and I just felt she was showing me she'd lost some of her speed. She's become very dour in her last few starts and we need to get some speed back," Ritchie said. "These horses get down to the beach and they become different horses.”

Collett Double Handed In GuineasTrainer Richard Collett has launched a two-pronged attack on tomorrow’s Wellington Guineas (Gr 2, 1400m) at Trentham tomorrow with Swiss Ace (Secret Savings) three-year-olds Top Prospect and Swissta. Top Prospect, to be ridden by Alyssa Collett, won the Trevor Eagle Memorial Stakes (Listed, 1500m) last November, while Swissta won the Great Northern Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m) at Ellerslie on 1 January. "They should be two competitive chances," Collett said. "Saracino is bringing Group One form from Te Rapa and you have to

Trainer John Moore has seen plenty in his 32 years in the Hong Kong training ranks, not to mention his tenure as an assistant to his father,

the legendary George Moore, before that. However, in Rapper Dragon (Street Boss),

Moore believes he may finally have a horse capable of becoming the first to win all three legs of the Four-Year-Old Classic Series, a feat the Street Boss (Street Cry) gelding can achieve with victory in Sunday’s Hong Kong Derby (Listed, 2000m).

“Definitely, he’s capable,” five-time Derby winner Moore said at Sha Tin this morning on Thursday after watching all six of his Derby runners complete their final major gallops on the Sha Tin turf.

“He’s going to be hard to beat, there’s no doubt about it, he’s rated 14 points higher than any of his rivals and he will be a deserved favourite. To win all three legs of the series is very hard, we’ve seen horses go close before but they have come up short in the Derby, but

there is something about this horse. “It is a different race, because they have the

short run to the first turn, but he should be able to lay up and he should be able to steal enough of a break on his main rivals.”

Rapper Dragon proved too classy in the first two legs of the Four-Year-Old Classic Series, the Hong Kong Classic Mile (Listed, 1600m) in January and the Hong Kong Classic Cup (Listed, 1800m) last month.

He is the third horse to attempt to add Derby victory to wins in the other two legs, with Floral Pegasus (Fusaichi Pegasus) (second in 2007) and Sun Jewellery (Snitzel) (seventh in 2016) both coming up short. However, Moore believes that Rapper Dragon is good enough to extend his ability out to the longer 2000 metre trip.

“Great horses that I have had over the years, they can win from 1400 metres to 2000 metre, they are versatile,” Moore said.

“They’re that good, they are just superior athletes and they can do it. This horse may be

Moore Believes Rapper Dragon Can Make History In The Derby

best at a mile, and he might even find himself in a Champions Mile in a few weeks, but he can stretch it out against his own age group, even in a good Derby like this one.”

All six of Moore’s Derby contenders worked down Sha Tin’s home straight this morning, with the trainer particularly pleased with the effort of Rapper Dragon under raceday partner Joao Moreira.

He worked in company with Midnight Rattler (Clang), who runs in Sunday’s Class Two Akeed Mofeed Handicap (1400m), the pair completing 1200 metres in 1:24.20 and coming home the last 400 metres in 23.10 seconds.

“I was very pleased with the work, he galloped the house down,” Moore said. “He really impressed me, and I normally don’t think he’s a great worker. As he usually does, he’s pulled up really well and he’s definitely our leading chance.”

Four of his six raceday jockeys were on hand to partner their mounts in their final pieces of fast work this morning, with Moreira on Rapper Dragon, Douglas Whyte on Helene Charisma (Air Chief Marshal), Sam Clipperton on Rodrico (High Chaparral) and Zac Purton on Beauty Generation (Road To Rock).

Tommy Berry, who partners Eagle Way (More Than Ready), and Booming Delight’s (Fastnet Rock) pilot Ryan Moore will fly in after the Golden Slipper meeting in Sydney on Saturday.

Booming Delight, a winner of his last three starts under Sam Clipperton, had the Australian rider aboard in his gallop this morning. He worked alongside Classic Mile third Beauty Generation over 1200 metres in 1:23.70 (29.6, 30.6, 23.5).

“My team, I think they are where you would want them to be three days out from a big race,” Moore said.

“Sam was on Booming Delight this morning, he knows the horse well and said he felt terrific. Zac came down, he’s not feeling well at all, his ear is playing up, but he got a feel for Beauty

Generation. They both appear on target.” French Group One winner Helene

Charisma was sent out with Class Two galloper Ashkiyr (Rock Of Gibraltar), comfortably besting his workmate in a time of 1:20.40 for 1200 metres, including a slick last sectional of 22.90.

“Helene Charisma, I sent him out with Ashkiyr and he beat him easily, as you’d hope he would,” Moore said. “He’s going to appreciate further but he’s coming into this race as well as he can be.”

Eagle Way and Rodrico have already filled the first two positions in one Derby, having finished one-two in the Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) in June, and after finishing together in a track gallop this morning – Eagle Way clocking 1:20.90 for 1200 metres (28.8, 29.7, 22.4) – Moore believes both can finish around the mark on Sunday.

“Eagle Way galloped really well with Rodrico, they both went really well actually,” Moore said. “Eagle Way is coming to hand well and appears to be peaking at the right time, although he will be even better over further. And Rodrico worked as well as he has at any time while he has been here.

“It’s going to be a great race, to have six runners in the field is already a win of sorts. Now, we just have to hope we take the prize!”

The barrier draw for the HK$18,000,000 feature was made yesterday, and for connections of Rapper Dragon, there were smiles all around as owner Albert Hung drew a plum barrier in four yesterday, prompting a grin from raceday partner Joao Moreira and excitement from trainer John Moore.

“The owner of Rapper Dragon asked me what gate I wanted, I said four to six,” Moore said.

“He got four, it couldn’t be better for him. We all know Rapper Dragon has the early gate speed, he’s going to get a great position and he’s going to be given every chance from there.”

Otherwise, Moore was circumspect about the draw, which handed his other five runners gates of seven (Rodrico), nine (Booming Delight), 10 (Eagle Way), 12 (Beauty Generation) and 14 (Helene Charisma).

“It’s mixed feelings,” the trainer said. “Some are a little on the wide side, although for some of them, it doesn’t matter. A horse like Eagle Way, he settled midfield from a similar gate in the Queensland Derby and came home strong. Helene Charisma, he will be going back anyway and he will appreciate further, as will Rodrico.

“Rodrico will probably push forward from the middle of the pack, he did that in Australia. We won’t be going as far forward on Beauty Generation, though, he got engaged in a speed duel last time and it didn’t work. From 12, I’d expect Zac (Purton) will be midfield, one or two off the fence, and waiting for the mid-race swoop that tends to come down the back straight each year.”

For Tony Cruz, who saddles up three runners, it was also a mixed bag, with Gold Mount (Excellent Art) (eight), Circuit Hassler (Shocking) (11) and Pakistan Star (Shamardal) (13) all drawing outside gates.

“Gold Mount is smack in the middle in gate eight, so he has a good chance, I’m happy with that,” Cruz said.

“Pakistan Star, he’s got no speed from the

Friday 17 March 2017 H O N G K O N G N E W S

gate, so where can we go with him? He’ll come from behind, so 13 is not a problem. We’ll drop in with him and he’ll run on. He’ll run the way he always likes to. We tried to ride him handier that once in the Classic Mile and he didn’t even finish off his race. The distance, 2000 metres, will suit him better this time, too. As for Circuit Hassler, I don’t think he will be leading the race; he’ll be handier, but not leading.”

One man who was happy with the draw was trainer John Size after his three hopes drew barrier two for Dinozzo (Lilbourne Lad), three for Prawn Baba (Duke Of Marmalade) and six for My Darling (Mossman).

“They’ve all drawn well, towards the inside,” Size said. “Hopefully the inside is a fair spot to be. It’s suitable for all of those horses, anyway. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of speed in the race or pressure so if My Darling doesn’t lead the race, he’ll be very close to it from there.”

Classic Mile and Classic Cup placegetter Seasons Bloom (Captain Sonador) is also drawn well in gate one, although trainer Danny Shum said it could prove both a blessing and a curse.

“It’s fifty-fifty, I think,” he said. “It’s a good draw in the sense that you save the ground but then it can be a disadvantage because on the A track they will all come from behind on the outside. I think Nash (Rawiller) has to find a way through, otherwise it will be difficult.”

Peter Ho trainee Limitless (Lope De Vega), drawn in gate five, completes the field. He will be ridden by Neil Callan.

In somewhat of a puzzling result in Saturday’s Newmarket Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m) with the $31 chance Redkirk Warrior (Notnowcato) resuming after

a 120 day break to win decisively, many were blaming the controversial track – or was it the lack of pace?

On leaving the barriers, jockeys seemed intent on winning a race to the far rails side, tactics which saw a number of key chances, especially the $4.40 second favourite Spieth (Thorn Park), blocked in a crowded field on the inner with only 400 metres remaining.

Spieth eventually got some sort of clear running before finishing ninth, beaten three and a quarter lengths, going to the post just behind the sixth-placed $4.00 favourite Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt), who has now failed at both his attempts down the Flemington straight.

After much comment on the day and later on social media, the Flemington Track Manager Matt Goodie subsequently conceded that the track had a bias favouring horses racing on the inside.

But was there an additional factor, the

lack of a genuine pace for the full 1200 metre distance?

That is a trend that is recurring regularly of recent times over the straight course at Flemington, ironically perceived as providing all horses a fair chance.

Perhaps that consistent lack of early tempo over the straight course is due to the fact that riders do not feel the need to be jockeying for positions in the early stages to the same degree required on a turning track.

But whatever was responsible – probably both a bias and a lack of early pace - the end result on Saturday was that the field of Group One sprinters covered the first half of the race in only 36.05 and they were racing on a Good 3 track.

The final 600 metres was then clocked in a fast 33.00 – three seconds faster for the same distance, making it difficult for runners too far back in the field to make ground.

The winner Redkirk Warrior raced outside the leader Star Turn (Star Witness) until dashing clear at the 400 metres, which he sprinted in a fast 22.25 (with his last 200 metres in 11.37), to win clearly by two lengths in a time of 1:09.05.

The Darren Weir-trained Voodoo Lad (I Am

Invincible) staged an excellent first up effort, at the odds of $17, in coming from ninth at the 600 metre point to grab second with Star Turn holding on for third, a short head further back.

Voodoo Lad’s performance in making so much late ground, saw him produce fast closing sectionals of 32.92 (last 600m), 22.04 (last 400m) with his last 200 metres in 11.39.

It was an impressive effort and Voodoo Lad, who has only missed a place once in 19 starts – winning nine times, looks set for a very good preparation.

Another to take the eye on the watch was the Mike Moroney-trained Tivaci (High Chaparral) who came from 11th at the 600 metres to finish fifth, beaten two and half lengths, clocking 33.07 for his last 600 metres, 22.16 for his last 400 metres with his final 200 metres in 11.23.

The other feature on the Flemington card, the Australian Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) was one race that did not lack pace, the full 2000 metre journey being covered in a fast 2:01.07, the solid tempo throughout suggesting the residual form should be very sound.

The winner, the Darren Weir-trained four-year-old Humidor (Teofilo) ran on strongly from ninth at the 1000 metres to score by a long head from the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Jameka (Myboycharlie) with British import Exospheric (Beat Hollow) one and a quarter lengths further back in third.

Humidor was timed to run his final 1000 metres in 59.07, last 800 metres in 46.72, last 600 metres in 35.06 with his final 400 metres in 23.66.

Raced previously in New Zealand where he was bred, Humidor is a highly promising stayer who is now likely to tackle The BMW (registered as H E Tancred Stakes) (Gr 1, 2400m) at Rosehill on 25 March.

The third-placed Exospheric also returned impressive closing times, with his last 1000 metres in 59.02, last 800 metres in 46.78, last 600 metres in 35.15 with his final 400 metres in 23.75.

Newmarket Handicap Provides Puzzling Result – Was It Track Bias Or The Lack Of Pace?

At Rosehill on Saturday, the day commenced with an impressive win by the lightly raced Godolphin import Spectroscope (Medaglia d’Oro) in the Benchmark 89 (1350m).

Having his first Australian start after having shown promise with two wins and four placings from seven starts in France, William Buick had the four-year-old entire back in last place in the six-horse field until nearing the home turn.

Spectroscope then ran on strongly to win comfortably by a length and his times confirm that he is set for a good career in this country, especially over longer distances.

Producing quick closing sectionals on the Soft 7 track, Spectroscope was timed to run his last 1200 metres in 1:09.32, last 1000 metres in 57.51, last 800 metres in 45.67, last 600 metres in 34.17 with his final 400 metres in 22.72.

He is a horse to watch, as too the 2016 ATC Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Tavago

(Tavistock) who showed he is returning to his best form with a decisive win in the Sky High Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m).

After racing in fifth place on the rails, Tavago got along the inner on turning for home and after taking the lead on passing the 200 metres, he drew away for a very decisive three and a quarter length win.

Tavago was timed to run his last 1000 metres in 58.83, last 800 metres in 46.43, last 600 metres in 35.20 with his last 400 metres in 23.68.

In the Coolmore Classic (registered as T A D Kennedy Stakes) (Gr 1, 1500m), the Tim Martin-trained mare Heavens Above (Street Cry) came from back in 12th place at the 800 metres to grab a last-stride, short half head win over the Andrew Noblet-trained mare Silent Sedition (War Chant).

Heavens Above, racing on a Soft 6 track, was timed to run her last 1200 metres in

1:09.43, last 1000 metres in 58.11, last 800 metres in 46.30, last 600 metres in 34.52 with her final 400 metres in 23.02.

It was a smart performance but On The Watch was particularly taken by the effort of the runner up Silent Sedition who was forced to work all the way from her very difficult (18) barrier.

After being trapped deep, Silent Sedition settled in ninth place (wide out) before improving to be third at the 800 metres (still wide) before dashing to the front at the 200 metres.

She was only caught on the post for a very close second, staging a very good effort with her wide barrier proving costly.

Silent Sedition’s times were impressive. Clocked from the 1400 metres, she ran 22.59 (first 400m), 34.59 (first 600m), 46.07 (first 800m) 57.71 (first 1000m), 1:09.22 (first 1200m) with the 1400 metres being run in 1:21.22.

Rock Giselle put up a promising performance in winning here, her first win in five starts after placings in two runs since resuming.

She was slowly away and settled back in ninth place, one off the rails, before fanning deep nearing the home turn. She then sprinted well, took the lead at the 100 metres and went on to score comfortably, looking suited to further.

A daughter of the 2005 AJC Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner

Dizelle (Zabeel), herself a sister to the dual Group One winner in Hong Kong Subscribe - Vengeance Of Rain (Zabeel), Rock Giselle is a half-sister four winners, including the stakes winner Dizlago (Encosta De Lago) and the Group Two-placed Lucky Lago (Encosta De Lago).

Her second dam is the Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Danelagh (Danehill), while this is also the same family as dual stakes winner Bernicia (Elusive Quality), the dam of the Group Two winner Old North (Lonhro).

Dizelle was covered by Written Tycoon (Iglesia) last November having produced a filly by Fastnet Rock in September. Her two-year-old Pierro (Lonhro) filly is called Pinot and is in training with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

A record OBS March Sale of Two-Year-Olds In Training concluded yesterday with a filly by WinStar Farm sire Congrats (A. P. Indy)

taking top lot at US$1,700,000.The McKathan Brothers-consigned filly,

catalogued as Lot 360, went to Kerri Radcliffe, agent, who was the sale’s leading purchaser with three lots for a total of US$2,925,000.

The filly is the third registered foal out of the unraced Dixie Union (Dixieland Band) mare Azalea Belle, making her a half-sister to one winner, with her second dam being the Grade Two winner Westerly Breeze (Gone West).

"She's beautiful," Radcliffe told Bloodhorse.com. "She was the standout of the sale and I wanted her from the start. It's hard. I didn't think I was going to have to give that for her.

"I knew she was the one I wanted from the time I saw her breeze."

Kevin McKathan said he was confident the filly would prove popular after she breezed a furlong in 9.80 seconds.

"She's a queen," McKathan told Bloodhorse.com. "Once she breezed as well as she did, she picked up momentum and everyone found her. You never know how they're going to do, but it

just felt like everyone was lined up on her."Four further lots realised seven figures

yesterday, with a colt by Claiborne Farm’s Orb (Malibu Moon) selling for US$1,250,000 to Solis / Litt from the draft of Crupi's New Castle Farm.

The colt, catalogued as Lot 127, is the sixth registered foal out of the unraced Forest Wildcat (Storm Cat) mare Remember, making him a half-brother to two winners.

He is also from the family of multiple Grade One winner and Grade One-winning producing mare Heavenly Prize (Seeking The Gold) and Grade One winners Dancing Forever (Rahy) and Oh What A Windfall (Seeking The Gold).

Meanwhile, OXO Equine LLC purchased the third and fourth top lots of the sale, going to US$1,100,000 to secure Lot 349, a filly by former shuttler Tapit (Pulpit) from the draft of Tom McCrocklin.

The filly is the fourth registered foal out of the stakes-placed Arienza (Giant’s Causeway), while her second dam is the multiple Grade One winner and Grade Two-producing mare Azeri (Jade Hunter).

Later in the second of two sessions at the OBS March Sale, OXO Equine LLC purchased

Lot 515 for US$1,050,000, again from the draft of Tom McCrocklin.

The Arch (Kris S) colt is the third registered foal out of the winning mare Enhancing (Forestry), while his second dam is the previously mentioned former US champion three-year-old filly Heavenly Prize.

Elsewhere, a colt by Darley shuttler Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado) catalogued as Lot 345 sold to E Plesa, as agent on behalf of Karl and Cathi Glassman for US$900,000.

The colt is one of nine registered foals out of A. P. Indy (Seattle Slew) mare Apt, making him a half-brother to the Grade Three winner Carve (First Samurai) and the stakes-winning pair Sloane Avenue (Candy Ride) and Apropos (First Samurai).

During the first session of the two-day sale, a colt by Arrowfield Stud shuttler Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux) was sold to Solis / Litt for US$500,000 out of the draft of Eddie Woods, agent.

Catalogued as Lot 27 the bay colt is the fourth registered foal out of stakes-winning Miss Lombardi (Unbridled Jet), making him a half-brother to three winners, including stakes winner Miss Bullistic (Bullsbay).

Animal Kingdom was rested during the 2016 southern hemisphere season but is due to return to Arrowfield Stud this year.

Several of the key figures were up at this year’s sale, with 300 horses sold for a record aggregate of US$56,627,000, compared with 320 realising US$51,288,000 last year.

The average price was a record US$188,757, an increase of 17.8 per cent on the 2016 figure of US$160,275, however the median price was US$100,000 compared with US$102,500 last year.

"We were pleased with the catalogue and pleased with the horses when we saw them physically," OBS sales director Tod Wojciechowski told Bloodhorse.com.

"There was activity on the grounds that buoyed the spirits of consignors. We got some horses sold in the middle. I think we would all like to see the middle market robust and we strive for that."

Analysis: Summer Passage was a shade slow from the outside stall (10) but Blake Shinn aggressively went forward soon after to be almost alongside the leader after 200m and co-led, one out, at the 800m. Inside the 600m and into the straight they maintained a narrow lead. Shinn kept him going to the 150m then asked for more and the colt drew clear by two lengths and was allowed to ease slightly, having three quarters of a length to spare when they crossed the line, his second win in three starts following a Listed win at his previous start. Star Treasure was third last, one out, just prior to straightening, pulled wider turning in but took time to balance then ran on very well, especially over the final 100m, to flash into second. Gold Fever was midfield (rails) before the last corner, moved up to be third into the straight and kept up a solid run without looking like threatening the winner, finishing soundly for third. Princess Rihanna was last turning in, took an age to steady out in the middle of the track but grabbed fourth very late doing her best work over the last 50m for fourth.

Analysis: The late champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram) sired his 46th Group One winner with Lizzie L'Amour lasting best in a thrilling finish. She broke fairly from barrier six to be handy, two off the fence just forward of midfield past the judge with a circuit to run. Jockey Matthew Cameron had to avoid trouble starting the far bend and went very wide at that point but recovered to be fourth, one out, past the 1600m. She drifted slightly at the 1000m but Cameron crept forward to be in behind the lead turning in. Straightening, they had a great view four out and ranged up to lead at the 250m. With a half length advantage inside the 100m she then had to withstand a late charge on her inner and just lasted by nose at the post. Benzini lay sixth (rails) at the 1000m, sat on the winner's inner to the last

corner but was blocked once straightened. He did not see daylight until the 150m, pushed through and looked like overhauling the winner, who stuck her head out when it mattered. Sound Proposition was third last at the 1000m, second last turning in, got the split at the 250m and rattled into third right on the line. Consensus had a nice run in fourth, one out, to the 800m, moved three wide turning in to lead briefly then battled away, just losing third late while hot favourite Kawi had every chance, sitting third into the straight but could not find anything over the last 200m.

Analysis: Chenille began well yet drifted to be midfield when they settled. With just over a round to go she had clear running, still midfield, one off the rail and had the leaders in view. Drifting slightly at the 1400m, jockey Leith Innes then gradually went forward and they were beginning to make ground on the leading group and travelling so well that they were very handy, three wide, inside the 600m. Tackling the last corner they cruised up and took over the pace upon straightening, Innes urging the mare along. They eased clear by a length at the 150m, which was enough to keep the opposition at bay and stayed on best to win handily by three quarters of a length. El Pistola had a perfect rails run in third from the 1200m, moved four out turning for home, hit a flat spot at the 250m then found more over the last 100m to run on into second. Jacksstar was well back to the 1200m, improved quickly at the 600m, was widest into the straight and ran on well, late, to nab third. Megablast ran up quickly from the 800m and had the lead just prior to straightening then battled away well, being passed late for fourth. Five To Midnight was second last at the 600m, threaded his way down the straight and was running on quite well for fifth.

Analysis: Freshened after winning at Group One level at her last start, Thee Auld Floozie won well if narrowly here. Under jockey Rosie Myers, favourite and top weight The Auld Floozie got away fairly from barrier four to settle midfield, one off the fence. Sent forward at the 600m she was camped in behind the pace approaching the last corner. Into the straight a nice split was presented and she drove through and ranged alongside the leading three. Inside the 200m they took over and looked to cruise in but down on the rail a strong challenged emerged very late and in a head bobber she managed to hold on by a nose. Mime had the run of the race, trailing the leader on the rails. Momentarily held up at the 300m, she finally got the rails run and went for the line, challenging strongly over the final 50m to be nosed out in a head bobber. Lucyinrio sat outside the leader to the last corner, co-led briefly at the 300m, was passed soon after but came again to grab a solid third. Somethingvain led to the 300m, was still there at the 150m but came to the end of it just short of the post for fourth.

Analysis: After racing in much stronger class in his first three starts, Sheer Madness did well in breaking through for his first win here. He settled nicely outside the leader (All Eez), got the better of that runner at the 200m, went to the front shortly afterwards and went on to win well. The Matt Cumani-trained Mighty Quinn raced back in eighth place, one off the rails, until turning for home. He then ran on strongly for a late-closing second in a most promising debut effort. He is a horse to watch.
