Established in 1901, Hillside School is an independent junior boarding and day school for boys in grades 5 through 9. Hillside is committed to providing structured, supportive, and challenging academic opportunities for both traditional and non-traditional learners in preparation for secondary school. Hillside’s family oriented residential environment allows students to develop academically, physically, spiritually, and socially while building their confidence and maturity and guiding them along a personalized path to success.
Hillside Hockey Head Coaches David Beecher
Coach Beecher is Hillside’s ninth Headmaster, a role in which he has served since 1998. Prior to his service at Hillside, Coach Beecher was the Assistant Varsity Hockey Coach at Yale University for eight years. He was also the Varsity Coach for Berkshire School and Lake Forest High School where he coached the Scouts to the Illinois State Title.
Tim McCarthy
Coach McCarthy has been coaching at Hillside for nine years, where he is also the Dean of Athletics, a math teacher, and a dorm parent. Prior to his work at Hillside, he coached the Northwood School Varsity Hockey team. As a player, Coach McCarthy was a member and two year captain of the Hobart College Men’s Hockey Team. While playing for Hobart, he received multiple awards including Rookie of the Year, MVP, the Sportsmanship Award and the Coaches’ Award.
