The Skills Academy has established a High QualityProvider Network which is tasked with deliveringexcellence in skills for the Nuclear Industry.

The provider network has been developed to encompass arange of high quality provision that geographically covers

the whole of the UK Nuclear Industry.

The Skills Academy is continuing to appoint the very bestproviders of skills development for the nuclear sector inthe UK, to be part of the High Quality Provider Network.

This is being done via an open and competitiveapplication process underpinned with rigorous qualityassurance standards, or via employer nomination toensure that the standards employers demand are

achieved and maintained.

ENERGUS - Northwest/ Northeast RegionENERGUS is the Northwest Regional flagship delivery centre for the Skills Academy.Reflecting the ethos of the Skills Academy, ENERGUS is a world class centre for the provision ofvocational skills excellence, spanning both further and higher education for the nuclear industry.ENERGUS, in Workington, Cumbria was officially opened by Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State forEnergy and Climate Change on the 19th June 2009.

The centre is the first capital build project invested in by the Skills Academy, and is will provide SkillsAcademy Quality Assured training to up to 250 apprentices and a range of industry programmesfeatured on the Nuclear Skills Passport.

Regional flagship centres

ENERGY CENTRE - Southwest Region£2.25m LSC funding has been accessed by the Skills Academy for a£7.7m Energy Centre in Somerset. The Energy Centre will be theSouthwest flagship delivery centre for the Skills Academy. The devel-opment will provide high quality specialist training facilities in sci-ence, engineering and specialist construction to meet industrystandards for a skilled, competent and safe nuclear workforce. Thefacility will be managed and operated by the Southwest Hub- Bridg-water College. The Building is expected to be completed in 2010.

ENGINEERING CENTRE - ScotlandThe NDA has contributed £2m to aid with the development of a £7.2m Engineering Skills Centre to furtherenhance North Highlands College, this will be the Northern Scotland’s flagship of the Skills Academy.During the development and design phases, the Skills Academy worked closely with the College and employ-ers to ensure that this new facility will meet their needs. This has resulted in a design which will enable stu-dents to be taught in a work like environment and ensure that there is a step change in the delivery oftraining programmes.The project is on schedule for the completion of construction by the end of 2010, with the first intake of stu-dents scheduled for August 2011.

Arfon Dwyfor Training Ltd (ADT) have been established for over 26 years, providing vocational training throughoutthe whole of Wales. ADT specialise in training and assessment in the workplace, enabling learners to achieverecognised national qualifications leading to full apprenticeship frameworks.

ADT employs highly qualified Training Coordinators who visit learners regularly in the work place. TheCoordinators are flexible in their approach and are able to cover all types of employer work patterns to ensurethat the learners achieve qualifications and meet agreed learning aims.

ADT deliver apprenticeship frameworks in numerous occupational sectors such as Management, Administration,Customer Service, Retail, Distribution, Storage and Warehousing, Food Processing, IT Users and Manufacturing.

A number of short courses are also delivered to support learner’s apprenticeships. These include: the Institute ofLeadership and Management courses/modules; CIEH Health & Safety in the Workplace; Manual Handling; FoodHygiene; COSHH and RTITB Fork Lift Training.

Courses maybe tailored to the needs of each individual learner or company. This personalised approach ensuresthat each person learns to the best of their ability and each company benefits from the newly learnt skills andconfidence of its workforce.

Certificated bespoke courses are also offered within numerous occupational areas such as Management,Customer Service and Retail.

Blackpool and The Fylde College is one of the largest and most successful general further education colleges inthe north west of England with an annual budget of over £45 million providing further and higher education andtraining opportunities for local, regional and national client groups. It operates from four major campuses andthree learning centres located along a seventeen mile stretch of the Fylde coastline and includes the recentlyopened University campus in central Blackpool. The College has a significant number of training courses thathave been developed to meet the needs of employers, and is the leading FE college provider of nuclear relatedtraining in the North West. The College is an Associate College of Lancaster University and is designated as anational Beacon of Excellence for Equality and Diversity and for Leadership in Curriculum Innovation andDevelopment.

It was awarded the Charter Mark in 2000 and re-accredited in May 2005 and was reaccredited as an Investor inPeople in November 2004.

SPECIALIST PROVISIONAward for Nuclear Industry Awareness (ANIA)

Bridgwater College is the Southwest Hub of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear. The College has beendelivering a wide range of training programmes including training for nuclear decommissioning for several years,and has a long history of delivering engineering apprenticeships to the local reactor sites at Hinkley Point inSomerset.

The College will be opening a new specialist dedicated training centre for the industry in 2010/2011. Thisspecialist facility will be the Southwest flagship training centre for the Skills Academy and, due to its Somersetlocation, will place training for both nuclear decommissioning and new build into a sustainable energy contextwith the new EDF reactor build at nearby Hinkley.

Bridgwater College works closely with both EDF/British Energy and BNG/Energy Solutions, as well as manyemployers in the second tier and the supply-chain and is able to provide commercial customised training to meetcorporate and individual customer need.

EDETA (Edinburgh and District Engineering Training Association Limited) was set up in 1966 when it became aLimited Company with charitable status under the Companies Acts, 1948 to 1967. It was initially located in DockStreet and moved to Kinnaird Park in January, 2002.

EDETA is a branded learning centre and quality assured by SDS, SEMTA, Nuclear Skills Academy and hasaccreditation to deliver training for EAL, IOSH, REHIS, CCNSG, SPA and ECDL.

Many years of training experience have enabled EDETA staff to acquire in-depth knowledge regarding theeffective design and delivery of training programmes and courses ranging from Modern Apprenticeships inEngineering; Information Technology; Management; Administration and a wide variety of Health and Safetytraining, including Safety Passport courses.

We offer the option of delivering most of our courses in company. After agreeing the objectives for the course,our training staff will design and present the course of your choice to meet your individual requirements.

Nuclear Related Provision

As the largest provider of training to the Civil Nuclear Sector in the UK and drawing on more than 50 years in thenuclear industry, GEN II work closely with their partners to develop the new skills and qualifications for thosejoining the industry, as well as re-skilling of the present workforce. The company currently employs over 95 staffoperating from 6 locations across Cumbria, with state of the art training centres based in the North, South andWest of the county.

GEN II are the first education and training provider in the UK to be awarded the Training Quality Standard (TQS)with excellence in Nuclear and Engineering. TQS is one of the highest training accolades possible and is an awardwhich recognises GEN II’s outstanding work with employers.

As a response to employer demand for high level accredited and customised educational programmes, the GEN IIHigher Engineering Department was formed in 2005. Based in West Cumbria, the Higher Engineering Departmentdeliver a wide range of BTEC and Foundation Degree programmes with specialisms in Nuclear RelatedTechnologies. To help embed a safety culture, GEN II, are also accredited as a NEBOSH, CIEH and IOSH trainingprovider and provide a range of commercial short courses aimed at those who have a responsibility for safety,specifically for high safety critical environments, such as the nuclear industry

Gloucestershire College is a successful college of further and higher education, offering a wide range of educationand training programmes, including A Levels and GCSEs, vocational qualifications, work-based learning, highereducation and short courses for business.

The Gloucester based Engineering department is one of the largest providers of engineering training in theSouthwest. Offering an extensive range of subjects and a broad range of vocational programmes designed tomeet the need of local industry through specialist training and customised facilities. These include Welding,CAD/CAM and NVQs in Performing Engineering Operations and Engineering Technical Support. We also offerHigher Education options in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Operations Engineering

Ofsted overall grade is ‘Good’ with 'Outstanding' grades for the College's partnerships with employers and for theCollege's accommodation and industry standard resources. Gloucestershire College was commended for a numberof key strengths, in particular the high levels of practical and vocational skills acquired by our students and for ourwell qualified and experienced staff.

The College has large fully equipped engineering workshops, complemented by state-of-the-art CNC lathes andmills, robotics equipment and a rapid prototyper. The College’s Health and Safety practice has been commendedby RoSPA and is rated by the Learning & Skills Council as Excellent.

Hartlepool College of Further Education is a medium sized college, with around 9,000 students, based in the TeesValley in the North East of England. Hartlepool College offers a wide range of courses in a broad range of fieldsincluding engineering and construction. Lakes College educates around 5,500 students per year. Lakes College works closely with local employers and aconservative estimate of how many individual businesses they work with over the course of a year would be 250.

The College employs almost 300 local people and have an annual turnover of around £11 million.

The £11 million campus building includes a Learning Resource Centre with over 90 on-line computers, a superb li-brary and plenty of study space. There is also a café, restaurant, shop with a Starbucks concession, hair andbeauty treatment salon, workshops, art and design studios and an impressive range of sports facilities including: asports hall, tennis courts, rugby and football pitches, fitness suite, free weights gym and a floodlit multi-use gamesarea.

At Lakes College West Cumbria students are taught everything from basic skills through to post graduate levelsubjects on a full or part-time basis, either in college, at centres near to where they live, in their workplace or evenat home.

Nuclear Related Provision

The North Highland College was founded in 1959 as Thurso Technical College primarily to serve the training needsfor the UKAEA. Over the years both the College's curriculum and its student complement has expandedsignificantly. The College aims to serve all the communities of the north through our campuses in Thurso, Wick,Alness and Dornoch. The North Highland College is a partner college within the UHI Millennium Institute(www.uhi.ac.uk) and it is through this partnership that the delivery of Higher Education takes place.

The College currently has seven academic sections and annually enrols in excess of eight thousand students. TheCollege also has a Research portfolio including the Environmental Research Institute and the Centre for History.Thurso is the main campus of The North Highland College. It was extensively developed and refurbished between1995 and 2000. It provides the base for around 70% of those learners who study in College. Sussex Coast College Hastings' Main Campus is at the new Station Plaza building in Hastings town centre whichopened to learners in November 2009. Station Plaza enjoys the very best teaching and learning spaces in theregion, using the most up-to-date digital technologies. The building is also designed to be a cultural hub withpublic exhibition and performance spaces as well as being a great place to relax and meet for a coffee and asandwich or even a three-course meal.

In July 2010, the Ore Valley campus will open its doors to learners. The three storey building will enjoy the verylatest training technologies designed to give students real-life learning experiences in their chosen field. Ore Valleywill also serve as the hub for the college's community and enterprise partnerships guaranteeing learners the beststart to their careers or further learning by ensuring that the curriculum closely reflects employers' needs.The college also has two specialist centres:

The Motor Vehicle Centre, an accredited centre that specialises in teaching and learning car restoration,maintenance and repair. The Centre will soon deliver courses specialising in motor sports.

Training 2000 is one of the largest Group Training Associations in England, with over 40 year’s experience ofdelivering high quality work-based learning and training programmes to industry and individuals.

With around 300 staff and 6 centres across both the Northwest and other areas of the UK, working with nationalemployers across a wider range of sectors, whilst maintaining local support.

West Suffolk College is a rural further education college based in Bury St Edmunds. In addition, Learning Centresare located in four market towns and in Ipswich. Most training for employers takes place on employers’ premises.Student enrolment is approximately 15,000 annually, of whom 75% are over 19 years old. Around 600 SchoolLink students attend the College on one or two days a week.In addition to full-time, part-time and adult education, we have a large contract for Apprenticeships and Train toGain Provision. As a member of University Campus Suffolk we deliver foundation degrees and other highereducation courses to around 600 students. We work with more than 1200 employers across Suffolk and the widerregion.
