Day 2 – Saturday, September 8, 2018 Lima Take the morning to yourself as you catch up on rest from the previous day’s travel, and we will have a late morning start around 11am. We head to neighboring area Barranco and check out the stylish hotel and enjoy lunch at one of Lima’s trendiest hotels – Hotel B. https://hotelb.pe/ The full afternoon starts with visit to the modern and historical parts of the starts in the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, including an overview of the impressive Huaca Huallamarca, a pre-Incan archaeological site right in central Lima. You will see the top sites of the Historical Center: Plaza Mayor ("Main Square"), the Government Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, the City Hall and the old streets of Lima that saw the birth of the New World. The

tour also includes a visit to Santo Domingo Convent, an icon of colonial architecture and a World Heritage Site, which was completed in the late stages of the sixteenth century and has been recently restored. It has an ancient crypt (catacomb) where the relics of Peruvian saints such as Saint Rose of Lima and San Martin de Porres lie. We take a unique tour of the Casa Aliaga. The Aliaga House is as old as Lima itself. When conquistador

Francisco Pizarro founded the capital city on Jan. 18, 1535, he gave the plot adjacent to that of the Government Palace to his trusted ally Jerónimo de Aliaga, so they could be neighbors. Eighteen generations of the Aliaga family have resided in the same mansion ever since — it's been renovated continuously, but it's the oldest house in the Americas. Jerónimo's descendants currently live in a modern annex, but much of the original main house is on display.

If time allows, we will stop at the Larco Museum, an incomparable private collection of treasures from ancient Peru. This inspiring collection helps visitors to understand and enjoy more than five thousand years of Peruvian history. After a break at the hotel, we head to dinner at the Amaz Patio Panorama restaurant. If the jungle is calling you, you don’t have to go far to enjoy the food. Amaz Patio Panorama will transport you there with the smell of the food and the beautiful décor. the establishment immediately transports you to the jungle: the “malocas”, hand-woven jungle communal houses for guests in search of some privacy, the colorful “koats“-mythical animals evoked when in need of rain- decorating the entrance wall, the paintings making reference to the Amazonian culture and the colorful rattan chairs but most of all, it is the exotic products they use in their cuisine followed by the “mysterious” names on the menu that make you travel and want to explore new flavors and textures. Not only will you leave more than satisfied, but surely learning a whole new vocabulary that the restaurant has compiled in a glossary for you to learn about all that the Amazon Region has to offer, including the incredible health benefits of its products. While dining on exquisite culinary offerings, you will have a presentation on the 5-star M/V Aria Amazon vessel that cruises Peru’s Northern Amazon region. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3 – Sunday, September 9, 2018 Lima to Cusco and onto the Sacred Valley Early this morning we head to the airport for our comfortable flight on LATAM Airlines flight LA2047 LIM CUZ 0914 1046. Travel over the Andes Mountains to Cusco, and then onward into to the impressive and historically and culturally significant Sacred Valley of the Incas, and the ideally located explora Lodge.

The Sacred Valley of the Incas contains many famous and beautiful Inca ruins. Named the Sacred Valley because it contains some of the best land in the region, the area was actually not a part of the Inca Empire as such, but the property of the Emperor himself. What remains there today is so much color, vibrancy, authenticity, and options for activities that the area is an essential part of any Goway cultural journey to Peru.

Our gracious hosts for three days in the Sacred Valley is the explora Valle Sagrado lodge. They are providing for us their all-inclusive experience with all transfers to and from the lodge, stylish single-basis accommodation, daily-included explorations, entrances fees, drinks (including alcohol), meals, snacks, and English-speaking guides all as part of your package.

This afternoon you will have the opportunity to participate in one of explora’s many included guided explorations in the Sacred Valley region. (See Day 4 below for a sample of the activities). Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Accommodation: explora Lodge https://www.explora.com/ Rating: 5 Star Duration: 3 Nights, full board all-inclusive basis Day 4 – Monday, September 10, 2018 The Sacred Valley explora works on the model of all-inclusive guided activities shared with other guests at the lodge. As such, today and tomorrow we will have a chance to participate in a wide range of tours in and around the Sacred Valley, which we select locally at the lodge. So no need to book any activities in advance. With over 20 daily explorations, that can be completed either on foot, horseback, by van or bike, travelers discover from traditional towns barely touched by the force of globalization to ancient ruins perfectly

preserved from the passing of time, and lagoons at the foot of snow covered mountains. Here is a sample of the explorations available to choose from: Bike Rides Cuesta del Sapo From the heights of the Sacred Valley’s slopes, we descend over a track in good conditions. The road to the bottom of the valley offers very interesting views to the mountains and the Urubamba River. Once downhill, you will continue bordering the river through an area of cornfields and orchards and densely packed Inca terraces. Urubamba River The road used for this exploration goes down the south side of the Urubamba River, a quiet area of cornfields, old haciendas and manors from the 19th and 20th centuries. This bike ride is recommended for families wishing to take a long walk or for those who want to take on a sports challenge. Qenqo The exploration begins in the heights of the pampas and then descends – over a vehicle road – among Quechua communities and farmlands with views to the Sacred Valley and Pisac. In the afternoon, the ride goes follows the south side of the Urubamba river among cornfields, old haciendas and manors from the 19th and 20th century. Inca tracks During the morning, this exploration considers a walk over a mountain trail with 360º views to Cusco and the Sacred Valley. The descent is through potato plantations and pampas where shepherds tend their animals. In the afternoon, biking starts on the heights of the pampas, then going down through Quechua communities and farmlands, with views to the Sacred Valley and Pisac. Day Trips Pisac This exploration takes the traveler to one of the most fertile areas in the Sacred Valley. The journey begins towards the Quinsacocha lagoon, a sublime site that features the typical Cusco puna landscape. Going downhill, we will cross the el Valle de la Papa and next, visit the Quechua community of Chahuaytire, a place with an ancient textile tradition where we will learn about natural dying and back strap loom techniques. The trip ends with a visit to the stunning archaeological center of Pisac, a city built on a mountain with hundreds of remarkable hanging farm terraces on its slopes. Maras This route first takes us to Ollantaytambo, also known as the “living Inca city”. From there, we will travel to the archeological site of Moray, a laboratory of experimental farming where different microclimates are used to grow crops. From there, the trip continues to Maras and a large lagoon, an ideal place to take a stroll and have lunch, to then follow to the town of Chinchero. The road crosses several fields where we will see farmers working or looking after their animals. In Chinchero, we will visit the archaeological site and its enigmatic constructions. Then, we will visit the terraces of Zurite and enjoy the views they offer. Hiking Cinco Lagunas This walk begins at an isolated community in the heights of the Andes, at over 13,123 f.a.s.l. A gentle descent takes us through a ravine with plenty llama and alpaca herds, passing beside several lagoons that reflect the large snowcapped peak in the background and the yellow-colored mountains. Lloclla This mountain walk follows tracks used by local shepherds among lagoons serving as water deposits to sustain the area’s rural lifestyle between the valleys of Lamay and Pisac. Old mountain trails, mild slopes,

views, and people, among others, invite travelers to relax, walk calmly, breathe deeply and enjoy different perspectives and colors. Perched 8,200 feet above the valley, Machu Picchu was hidden by mountains and semi-tropical jungles for 400 years until made famous by Hiram Bingham of Yale University in 1911. Archaeologists believe that the Inca "Virgins of the Sun" took refuge from the Spanish Conquistadors here. After the tour, we return to the nearby town of Aguas Calientes, for an afternoon lunch at the Sumaq Hotel (https://www.machupicchuhotels-sumaq.com/). At the foot of the imposing mountains, surrounding Machu Picchu, by the banks of the Vilcanota River, stands Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel. As the only five-star hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes, it is architecturally-inspired by the enigmatic lost city of the Incas. The exquisite culinary creations of the hotel's restaurant are prepared with regional ingredients to provide for its guests the ultimate in Peruvian cuisine. After lunch if time allows we stop at a hotel for a site inspection of the Sumaq Hotel, before returning to the Sacred Valley and your hotel for the night.
