Winter is Here!! As we approach the winter months, we also dive head first into cold and flu season. I want to
take a moment to remind families of our practices concerning medication, outdoor recess, and absenc-es. While we stress the importance of good school attendance, we must also use good judgment when making decisions about sending students to school.
First, please note that students should not come to school if they have a fever un-der any circumstances. Also, please use discretion when sending students to school if they are coughing uncontrollably or have runny noses. If your child does have a cold and you feel that he or she is well enough to still be in school, please remember that students cannot take medication of any kind by them-selves at school. All medication including any “over the counter” medication must be given out by staff in the office; parents wishing to send such medication to school must fill out the district permission form, which you can pick up in the office at Amerman. Even cough drops require proper documentation. Finally, just a reminder that students will go outside daily for recess if the temperature or wind chill is 0-10 degrees or higher. Students must have a doctor’s note if they are to stay in from recess. Let’s all think warm thoughts as we approach another Michigan winter!

Dear Amerman Families, Recently, a friend shared this story with me and I wanted to share it with you. Perspective on Wealth
One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from the trip, the father asked his son: “How was the trip?” “It was great, Dad.” “Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked. “Oh yeah,” said the son. “So, tell me, what you learned from the trip?” asked the father. The son answered: “I saw that we have one dog and they had four.” “We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden – they have a creek that has no end.” “We have imported lanterns in our garden – they have the stars at night.” “Our patio reaches to the front yard – they have fields that go beyond our sight.” “We have servants who serve us – but they serve others.” “We buy our food – but they grow theirs.” “We have walls around our property to protect us – they have friends to protect them.” The boy’s father was speechless. Then his son added, “Thanks Dad for showing me how fortunate these people really are.” Isn’t perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all were grateful for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don’t have. Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your family.
Warmest Regards, Deborah Madeja
From the
office of
Mrs.
Madeja

ICHAT Form: Northville Public Schools requires an ICHAT form (Internet Criminal History Access) to be filled out and approved for all volunteers working with students. These forms need to be completed each school year. The attached form gives the district permission to conduct a criminal background check. A copy of your Michigan's driver's license must be turned in with the form (we can make a copy of it in the office). Thank you for assisting in keeping your children safe!
If I had my child to raise all over again,
I’d build self-esteem first and the house later.
I’d finger paint more and point the finger less.
I would do less correcting and more connecting.
I’d take my eyes off the watch and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less and know to care more.
I’d take more hikes and fly more kites.
I’d stop playing seriously and seriously play.
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars.
I’d do more hugging and less tugging.
I’d see the oak tree in the acorn more often.
I would be firm less often and affirm much more.
I’d model less about the love of power and more about the power of love.

BIRTHDAY LUNCH
CELEBRATIONS
Celebrate your child’s birthday with a lunch date at school!
This program is by reservation only and is completely voluntary. It serves as an additional way to support the PTA. Par-
ents will be able to come in and have lunch with their student at the birthday table in the cafeteria on their reserved day.
You may bring in a special lunch or treat for your student.
Send in a donation (amount of your choice) to reserve your date. All donations will be given to the PTA.
To guarantee you get the day you want, RESERVE YOUR DAY TODAY! Send in the form below along with your dona-
tion! Due to space limitations, celebrations will be limited to 3 per day, one K-1, one 2-3, and one 4-5. Summer birthdays
feel free to pick a day and celebrate a ½ birthday. Once your forms are received, you will receive an email confirmation of
your date. If you have any questions, please contact Megan Whitaker at [email protected].
