Formey, Jr., School! The Board approved the renaming of the East Broad Street School to the Henderson E. Formey, Jr., School in advance of the facility becoming an Early Learning Center in the 2019-20 School Year. ESPLOST UPDATES! Also at the Informal Board Meeting – Deputy Superintendent Vanessa Miller-Kaigler and her staff presented an update on ESPLOST Revenue Collection and ongoing projects. The presentation included extensive details on a master-campus plan for a Groves K-12, proposed redistricting to alleviate overcrowding as new facilities come online, and community outreach. http://www.boarddocs.com/ga/sccs/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=B9ZK7P508476 ESPLOST PROJECT/BUDGET REALIGNMENT At the regular meeting of the Board, a realignment of ESPLOST Projects and funding was approved due to a projected shortfall in ESPLOST funding and a decline in enrollment growth. The project list for ESPLOST III included a replacement school for Groves High School, a new K-8 school on the Groves campus, and a replacement school for Gould Elementary. To alleviate the overcrowding on the west side, satisfy the goals of ESPLOST III, and reduce costs to off-set the reduction in funding, a masterplan for a K-12 school on the existing Groves High School campus site has been completed and is being submitted for consideration. A K-12 on the Groves High School campus will allow the District to house Groves High School, Mercer Middle School, and Gould Elementary School. This plan will offer flexibility for the anticipated continued growth on the west side, and offer flexible campus use options to meet the learning needs of the student population.

Islands Construction Bid Approved! The Board approved the award of Bid C19-19 to construct the Islands High School Campus Track and Multi-Purpose Field (Phase III) to John E. Lavender & Associates, Inc. at a total cost of $3,243,000.00. http://www.boarddocs.com/ga/sccs/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=B9SUA8663276 New Facility Rental Process Coming Soon! The Board also heard a presentation on Facilitron – a third party facilities management program the facilities department plans to implement in the coming year. Facilitron’s partnership strategy provides software and support at no cost, a scheduling and reservation platform to help the district maximize internal facility use, consolidates facility scheduling, and manages community use requests. Once again, the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System will provide a variety of summer learning opportunities for our students. They range from Summer School to assist students who have not met grade level requirements or who need to recover credits to Summer Camps and Enrichment opportunities providing fun experiences in subjects like robotics, theater, culinary arts, and film production. Administrative Regulation EEE-R(1) – Wellness Program has been revised to align revisions related to unstructured break times for recess and to update language regarding incentives that promote healthy habits under School Based Activities. Board members discussed components of the regulation that District Administration will consider for future revisions. Policy KG and Administrative Regulation KG-R(1) – Use of School Facilities Policy KG has been revised to include the development of Administrative Regulation KG-R(1) for the purpose of refining the existing use of school facilities process. http://www.boarddocs.com/ga/sccs/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=B9ASNK7056A5

Policy EBH and Administrative Regulation EBH-R – Leasing and Renting covers components that will be included in Policy KG and Administrative Regulation KG-R(1) – Use of School Facilities. Policy JD Student Discipline has been modified to align with requirements under HB 740 regarding expulsion and suspension provisions for students in Pre-K – 3rd grade. The policy has also been updated to include references to O.C.G.A 16-11-127.1 contained in Rule 10 Weapons and Dangerous Instruments.
