Hello Neighbors! Welcome to the new monthly newsletter from the HOA at the Highlands at Gann Ranch! In the spirit of improving our communications with the neighborhood, we have signed up with a local organization that creates and distributes HOA newsletters. Funding for this is sponsored by local advertisers with placements here. So we thought - why not give it a try!
Over the next few months we’ll be circling through the board members creating content that we hope will be informative. We plan to cover topics such as introducing the board, highlighting neighborhood events, and ways that you can participate in supplying content in the newsletter. We are more than happy to have help and would like to include any news you want to share.

Attention!POOL CLOSING
DATE APPROACHING
The official close date for the pool is October 19th! Enjoy it while the weather is still nice. We’ll make a big splash the final weekend with the Fall Fest.
PENDING PROJECTS
We have some maintenance work planned for the pool during the winter close. Our pool maintenance company will be removing and replacing the joint fill around the pool. This will help to elevate the ant issue we have seen the past few years near the pool steps. And by ensuring the seams are tightly filled we guard against water seeping below the pavement and possibly cracking or buckling it.
If there are any other thoughts or concerns around pool maintenance that we should consider during the winter close – please let the board know!

Let's Chat! HOA – In Closing
Local events:
If you are not aware, there are some easy ways to get connected to neighbors in Gann Ranch. None of these is directly maintained by the HOA, which is probably best. These apps/websites are a great ways to chat, message, and connect with your neighbors!
Facebook: The Highlands of Gann Ranch does have a facebook group page. It’s not highly visited or updated but when there is an event or need to communicate it is one place where we will post things. Please “friend” us if you are on Facebook: Highlands at Gann Rann
Nextdoor “app”: online or on your phone you can access this app. https://nextdoor.com/ When you join you become connected to the “neighborhood” for Gann Ranch, as well as surrounding neighborhoods if you like. Currently we have around 118 folks in the Gann Ranch group. So we are finding this to be a good way to stay connected to a larger number of you-all! If you are interested in joining please do!
And of course – if you need to contact our HOA management – here is their info:

In closing, we hope to see many of you at the fall fest! And we look forward to hearing from you so that we can make the most from this newsletter format for communicating. We appreciate the care folks take in maintaining their homes and yards and we’re seeing the rewards of that, with the wonderful conclusion of the final build-out of the vacant lots (finally!), by the rise in property values over the last few months! Please drive safe through the neighborhood and watch out for all the kids now back in school. See you October 17th!

Submitted by Vicki OdomHosting an International Exchange Student is such a
great experience for all of those involved. It leads to a better understanding between individuals of other cultures, hopefully branching its way out to a more peaceful global society. But don’t just take my word about it, read about Nelva’s experience and understanding of the exchange program.
I'm so lucky to have been placed with a great host family in Texas! The best part is when we share each other’s cultures and have a lot of quality time together. I'm blessed to have chance to study in American High School.
Being an exchange student is hard. For the first couple days it was hard because I didn’t know anybody, the moving class system is new for me and sometimes it's hard to understand what they say. But America is really friendly and handy so I got a lot of help from them. From the exchange program, people can really get to know each other, people start to respect each other and we can start a new chapter to have a better world.
So if you want to enrich your life, host an exchange student!Nelva is from Indonesia and is spending the academic year
here in Texas as part of the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program. This program is funded by the US Department of State which provides scholarships for secondary school students from countries with significant Muslim populations. As part of her program year, Nelva is required to perform at least 60 hours of community service (however most YES students hours amount to hundreds of hours) and continue working with the program in her home country.
Our application process for the 2016 Spring Semester and 2016/2017 academic year will soon be opening. School spots in our area tend to fill up rather quickly, so get your application in early to host one of these amazing students!
Ayusa is a non-profit organization founded in 1981 to promote global learning and leadership through foreign exchange, study abroad, and leadership programs for high school students from the U.S. and around the world.
For more information about hosting a high school foreign exchange student, please contact your local representative Vicki Odom at 832.455.7881 or [email protected] or Ayusa at 1.888.552.9872 or by visiting the website at www.ayusa.org.

It’s an exciting team sport that is played using a small rubber ball and a long-handled stick called a
crosse or lacrosse stick. The head of the lacrosse stick is designed to catch and hold
the lacrosse ball. The sport consists of 4 positions: midfield, attack, defense, goalie so there are multiple positions for your
son to learn and grow as a lacrosse player.Raiders Lacrosse club is looking for boys
in grades 9 through 12 who are interested in learning the game of lacrosse for the Spring 2016
season. I guarantee if you come to a few practices you will not be disappointed. Come out and enjoy a day with the Raiders Lacrosse and feel the excitement of the fastest game on two feet.
Coaches and Players will be available to teach anyone wanting to learn
Once you experience Lacrosse you will be hooked!
