Serving doesn’t have to be hard – if we do all things with love, then serving others will be a joyful experience. Celebrating

47 YEARS

Each new year brings with it an evaluation of the prior year’s commitments and

fresh commitments to new goals. I want to encourage you to begin this new year

with a fresh commitment to studying the Word of God and to prayer for revival and

lost souls to be saved. I am excited about what God has in store for this coming

year. Be sure to look around and consider inviting someone to join you for coffee,

a meal, or even to a party. If your small group is not having a meal or party, this

month then maybe you should take the initiative to have one. Ask yourself who and

how have I reached out to this past week. Make it you New Year’s Goal to make

Christ known in your life and to invite others to every fellowship every month. We

are anticipating God doing marvelous things among His people – you don’t want to

miss a single service!

January 1st we will kick the new year off with the Lord’s Supper! The Lord’s

Supper is an act of worship as we remember and proclaim the Lord’s death until he

comes! The observance of the Lord’s Supper causes us to examine why such a

sacrifice was necessary and to confess the sin of our hearts, lest we eat of the

supper unworthily. Even though it may bring us to a place of humility and

unworthiness its observance is to be a celebration of what Jesus Christ has done for

us in giving His body and His blood for our sins! He paid a debt He did not owe,

because we owed a debt we could not pay!

January 8th we will be celebrating the ordination of several new deacons. God has

called us all, but especially deacons, to serve others. Serving can mean so many

things – making a phone call to check up on a church member, writing an

encouraging card to uplift someone’s heart by letting them know you care,

reaching out to help the church meet a need that a family has, or even just visiting

a sick friend in the hospital. Serving doesn’t have to be hard – if we do all things

with love, then serving others will be a joyful experience. Remember this, “The

measure of a man’s greatness is not the number of servants he has, but the number

of people he serves.”

January 15th we will be celebrating the paying off of the debt of the church by

having a note-burning service. Please invite others to come and celebrate this

momentous occasion in the life of the church! (continued on page 2)

WMU NEWS Happy New Year!! January brings a time to start fresh and new

perspectives and practices. Here's one: instead of making a "New

Year's Resolution" that may not make it past the end of the month,

this year make a REAL commitment to have a greater vision for

missions! May we at

Highland see that take place on both a personal and congregational level!

January Ministry Project (Jan.1-31) : Collecting Gift Cards to Wal-Mart, Lowe's, or

Home Depot to be sent to the Sevier County Baptist Association to help those in need

following the Tennessee Wildfires. Any card amount would be appreciated! Please

give cards to me or to church office.

With gratitude for your support, Rema Bell

Nursery Director–

Kathy Hasty
