The HE Trailblazer Consortium

A group of HEIs and professional organisations came together representing HE employers to submit an Expression of Interest in developing an apprenticeship route for those employed within Higher Education.

The consortium is co-chaired by Southampton Solent University and Staffordshire University.

Sector wide interest has been high and the consortium has grown to include 70+ universities, private providers, mission groups and sector bodies.

The Aims of the Consortium

To develop flexible provision which will meet the training needs of the sector.

To accommodate the diverse needs of the sector and the role of academic professional along a spectrum from 100% teaching to 100% research focus.

The Academic Professional standard will be a level 7 apprenticeship which aims to build on the existing UK professional standards and researcher frameworks.

It will offer an opportunity for providers to develop their newly appointed academic professionals using a postgraduate certificate or diploma.
