SEA HIGHER EDUCATION COMMON SPACE
• Political-Security Community – create shared values and build community and an ASEAN identity
•Economic Community – facilitate the free-flow of labor, talent, ideas and capital towards a single market and production base
•Socio-cultural Community – regional awareness and appreciation of history and diversity
The SEA Higher Education Common Space will be the instrument to create qualified human resources with international awareness to serve the public and private sectors. Harmonization of member states’ higher education systems will facilitate student, staff, program and institutional mobility; employability within SEA; promote better understanding and will serve as the foundation for cooperation. This will facilitate adjustments towards narrowing the development gap among Member States.
Priority Mechanisms in Implementation ofSEA Higher Education Common Space
• Credit Transfer System - develop a template of a ASEAN Credit Transfer System is patterned after the University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific •Quality Assurance and Qualifications Framework - Transparency and mutual trust between the higher education systems can only be achieved if their QAs/QFs in the region are better developed. • Student Mobility - initiated a pilot project to promote student mobility in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand •Education and Research Link - focus on research assessment, research publications and an ASEAN Citation Index
