First-Class Gearboxes

General

For many decades, RENKhas been a leading manufac-turer of highspeed gearboxesand enjoys an excellent repu-tation with their series TS,TB, TL, TNA and TNB. Supported by up-to-dateCAD-systems and computer-controlled production, pro-ducts of superior quality arebuilt and delivered worldwide.

Gearboxes

Depending on the specificati-on, the gearboxes are builtaccording to DIN 3990,AGMA 421.06 or API 613standard. In order to achieveoptimum efficiency and excel-lent running characteristicsregarding vibration and noise,the gear teeth, bearings,natural frequencies and rotordynamics are calculatedaccording to the latest stateof the art.

Type Designation

Construction series and cent-re distances are identified bythe gearbox designation. Theoverview shown belowexplains the meaning of thealphanumerical designation.The numerical part refers tothe centre distance. TNA andTL types are gear units withwide gear teeth which allowto realize low transmissionratios. TNB and TS have nar-row gear teeth for high trans-mission ratios. For centredistances up to 400 mm, thegear casings are manufactu-res with high-quality cast iron;Casings with welded steelconstruction are used forcentre distances up to 450 mm.

Gearbox Elements

Gear Set

Different gear sets characte -rize the gearbox series.

Following design options arepossible:● single helical teeth● single helical teeth with

thrust collar● double helical teeth

Bearings

Split journal bearings areused for the standard design,and one bearing of the gearshaft is equipped with axialstop collars. If higher speedsare involved, radial tilting padbearings are mounted. Theuse of separate axial thrustbearings according to API613 is also possible.

Double helical teeth Single helical teeth

The gear shaft is built in two different ways:

Single helical teeth with thrustcollar

The quill shaft designtakes advantage of thehigher resilience of al longshaft, whereby the powerflow is directed into theoutput shaft that is loca-ted opposite to the drivenmachine.

Seals

The gearboxes require pres-sure oil lubrication. The oilmay optionally be supplied by a separate or a flange-mounted oil pump. The gear-box can also be connectedto a central lubricationsystem. The shaft ends of thegearboxes are sealed bymeans of a split, noncontactlabyrinth seal made fromaluminium. Upon request,special seals are also available.

Power loss andefficiency

With view to power loss andefficiency, RENK gearboxesare designed to the optimumpossible. Decisive factors toachieve a high efficiency arethe selection of the bearingsand their dimensioning aswell as the oil flow and typeof teeth.

Noise and vibrations

Each gearbox is noise-optimi-sed for nominal load. Thedimensioning of the teeth,lubrication and casing is focu-sed on low noise and quietoperation.

Instrumentation

The gearboxes can be sup-plied with a number of moni-toring instruments, such asbuilt-in resistance thermome-ters, thermocouples, vibrationdetectors, speed sensors,accelerometers, positiondetectors and oil pressuretransmitters. These devicesare also available in exproofor ATEX-design.

Production andAssembly

The gearboxes obtain highestdemands as the individualcomponents are manufactu-red on Hi-Tech-equipment,and the gearbox assembly iscarried out by highly qualifiedspecialists. As far as qualityassurence is concerned, ourplant is certified according toDIN / ISO 9001 / EN 29001.

Trial run

Every gearbox is subjected toextensive inspections andtests during which efficiency,noise emission, vibration cha-racteristics and proper func-tion of the lubrication systemare thoroughly checked. Theresults are recorded anddocumented.
