Principal’s Update Respect Equality Pride Integrity Resilience 5 February 2020 Welcome back to the 2020 school year. In particular, I would like to welcome the 275 Year 8 students and the 30 plus new enrolments from Years 9-12 and their families to the Golden Grove community. 2020 promises to be an exciting year for the school and will see the first stage of the $15.5 million capital works building program begin in readiness for the arrival of the Year 7 students in 2022. We are expecting work to commence late in Term 1 or early Term 2. 2019 YEAR 12 RESULTS We are very proud of our 2019 Year 12 results. Congratulations to all students for their achievements and for being such a wonderful, cohesive and support cohort. Highlights of the results include: Dux of the School was Alex Carey, who received 5 ‘A’ grades, including two ‘A+’s (one with Merit) and an ATAR of 97.90 There were 5 ‘A+’ grades with Merit – three in Psychology and one each in General Mathematics and Biology 11 students achieved four ‘A’ grades and a further 13 students achieved three ‘A’ grades 22% of all grades were ‘A’ grades (second highest result ever) The SACE completion rate was 98% The Modified SACE (Discovery Centre students) completion rate was 100% 32 students received an ATAR over 80 The average ATAR achieved by eligible students was maintained at 67.0 Good luck to the 2019 Year 12 graduates. We hope 2020 will be a prosperous and rewarding year for whatever you have chosen as the next step in your life, whether that is further study, employment or travel. STAFFING ANNOUNCEMENTSThe school was sad to farewell teaching staff members Marissa Giacomelli (Mitcham Girls High School) and Derek Jeffrey (Marryatville High School) who have moved on to new locations. We were also sad to say farewell retiring staff members Greg Walkom, Vikki Walkom, Val Hughes, Linda Humphries and Helen Christou. We thank them for their long years of service to Golden Grove High School and wish them all the best for whatever they have planned for the next stage of their lives.
