Founded in 1913, Luther College offers secondary education in the liberal arts tradition. The school is distinguished by strong community and academic excellence that are rooted in a Christian context.

Luther College adheres to the Government of Saskatchewan curricula and also offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Luther College has a rich history of not only unsurpassed academics, but also strong athletics, fine arts, and other co-curricular activities. High academic standards and

a dedicated teaching staff challenge students to excel and develop their intellectual gifts.

At the heart of Luther College High School’s tradition is a belief in community, diversity, and the Christian tradition that values these together with the realisation of individual potential. Luther students, from many different social and cultural backgrounds, have the opportunity to be part of a tightly woven community of students, parents, teachers, and staff. Typically, 12% of the school’s student body originates outside of Canada.

Luther graduates have gone on to universities such as Harvard, Pennsylvania State, Oxford, McGill, Queen’s, and other renowned educational institutions throughout Canada, North America and the world.

School. Teachers work hard to maintain the highest standards, reinforcing the high school’s reputation for scholarly excellence. The academic program emphasises traditional core subjects while simultaneously incorporating innovative approaches and modern programs.

Luther College was the first high school in Saskatchewan to offer the acclaimed International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which features enhanced subject matter and accelerated classes. Full IB Diploma students are actively sought by many major North American universities. Students can gain post-secondary credits for completing IB courses.

Christian context

Luther College encourages students to explore the meaning of faith and how it relates to their personal and academic lives. To facilitate explorations of faith and commitment, the College requires all students to take one Christian Ethics course per grade. Christian Ethics courses provide students with opportunities to explore social and personal morals, values, and ethical systems; they also encourage students to demonstrate compassion, care, support and generosity, acceptance, and purpose.

Daily chapel, which all Luther students must attend, is a unique and strong tradition at Luther. Chapel is a time when the whole school gathers together

to worship, laugh, listen, and learn. It forms the foundation upon which Luther’s strong community of support and respect is built. Chapel content varies from day to day and can include devotions led by students, faculty, or clergy; motivational guest speakers; fun, community-building activities; and music.

Students admitted to Luther College are not required to be Lutheran or members of the Christian faith. By welcoming students of all faiths and religious backgrounds, Luther College enjoys a richly diverse student body.

Dormitories

Live. Experience.

Luther College dormitory students benefit from being part of a small, safe, and close-knit residence community. This supportive community enables students to grow both personally and in relationship with others. The dormitory program stresses respect for oneself, others, one’s surroundings, and learning. Out of these emphases grows maturity, independence, responsibility, and self-discipline.

Most rooms are double occupancy and come furnished with beds, desks, and built-in closets. Resident student have access to a student lounge, and wireless internet is available throughout

the dorms. Meals and snacks are provided in the Luther College cafeteria.

A dean of men, a dean of women, and several assistant deans guide and supervise dorm students. The deans serve as positive role models, rule enforcers, and confidant(e)s. A school nurse is also available to students. The dorm program offers a variety of social activities for students, such as movie nights, karaoke nights, time in the gymnasium, outdoor camping programs, and trips off campus (in past years, a ski trip to the Rocky Mountains).

Luther College High School has room for 50 boys and 50 girls in the on-campus dormitory program.

Many students from around the world call Luther College High School home. Luther is located in Regina, a city of just over 200 000 inhabitants and capital of the province of Saskatchewan. Regina offers many cultural and sporting opportunities including art galleries, museums, musical concerts, Saskatchewan Roughriders football games, cross-country ski trails in the winter, and canoeing in the summer. The High School is located minutes from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Heritage Centre and historic Government House.

Regina has an international airport with direct flights to important connecting cities such as Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and Minneapolis.

The airport is a five-minute taxi ride from Luther College High School. Students can easily get around the city by accessing public transportation and private taxi services. For further information about Regina, please visit www.regina.ca.

Regina’s climate is distinguished by four distinct seasons: winter is cold with snow; spring is warmer and often rainy; summer is hot and usually dry; fall is moderate and typically dry. Weather is not usually a central concern for international students who live in the dormitories as all of Luther’s buildings are connected.

Athletic, cultural and arts co-curricular activities

Athletics have long been a part of Luther College High School’s tradition. Luther’s teams and individual athletes demonstrate passion and determination, helping to build school spirit. Student involvement in athletics promotes not only physical health and team spirit, but also cooperation, communication, sportsmanship, and effective time management.

At Luther College, students have access to a spectrum of fine arts courses and activities. Luther’s choirs, band and handbells programs are known for their excellence, and every year

the school produces a Broadway musical, making the High School a centre of musical theatre arts expertise. In addition to its various drama and creative writing groups, Luther also boasts a cutting-edge art studio in which students can explore multiple visual media.

Luther’s well-known film program takes students through the filmmaking process, covering scriptwriting, set design, directing, cinematography, editing, post-production, and film genre studies. The program enables students to produce a short film that can be added to their work portfolios.

The number of co-curricular opportunities offered at Luther is remarkable given the school’s small enrolment. Students are encouraged to explore their interests and develop their talents as team members, performers, organisers, or social activists.

Luther has a rich history of unsurpassed academics, but also dynamic athletics, fine arts, and co-curricular activities. The Luther College Invitational boys basketball tournament – known in western Canada as LIT – has been one of the best basketball tournaments in the province since 1952.
