European Standards for Hi VisibilityGarmentsThere are three types of signalling garments. The garments requiringfluorescent base material coating and garments requiring retro-reflectingmaterial coating or alternately, garments coating made with bothcharacteristics.

EN340: GENERAL REQUIREMENTSThis standard contains the general requirements of the protective garments,defined as covering or replacing the personal garment and designed toprotect against one or several dangers.Marking:On the product itself or printed on a label fastened to the product.Set to bevisible and legible.Name, commercial brand.Designation of the producttype.Designation of the size.Number of the appropriate standard. pictogramsand, if necessary, performance levels.The "i" marked on a pictogram indicatesthe need for the user to refer to manufacturer instructions.

EN471: SPECIFICATION FOR HI VISIBILITYCLOTHINGSignalling the user's presence, in order for him to be detectedand seen clearly under dangerous conditions, by day or nightunder all luminosity conditions, in the spectrum of head lights.

Classes of Hi Visibility garmentsEach of these three classes must have minimal material coating constitutingthe garment and this in conformity with the table below

Class 3: The class 3 defines the highest visibility level. Example: jacket withlong sleeves, parkas jacket.trousers suit. Minimum backgroundmaterial 0.80m2. Minimum retro-reflective material 0.20m2.

Class 2: The class 2 defines an intermediary visibility level. Example: vests,tunics. Minimum background material 0.50m2. Minimum retro-reflective material 0.13m2.

Class 1: The class 1 defines the lowest visibility level. Example: shoulder-belts. Minimum background material 0.14m2. Minimum retro-reflective material 0.10m2.

Class of coating of fluorescent basic material (0 to 3) :It gives the class category of the visible material of retroflecting andfluorescent.Class of reflecting material (0 to 2) :It gives the class category of the retro-reflecting material according to itsretro-reflection coefficient.

APPLICATIONClass 3 workwear must be worn by everyone working on roads with

normal speed restrictions, near railways and under cranes. It mustalso be worn by members of the emergency services. As a generalrule, a set of workwear always constitutes class 3 workwear. Atypical combination is trousers and jacket. However, a combinationof shorts and traffic waistcoats also comply with class 3 standards.A boilersuit by itself is classified as class 3. Parka coats and jackets(size XS and up) that are worn separately also comply with class 3standards.

Class 2 workwear must be worn by supervisors working in areas whereclass 3 workwear is required. Class 2 workwear typically consists ofa traffic waistcoat, bib & brace or a T-shirt.

Class 1 typically consists of trousers and must be worn by visitors to areaswhere class 2 or class 3 workwear is required. Visitors must beaccompanied by the people working in the area.

RESPONSIBILITYThe law stipulates that the employer is responsible for ensuringthat adequate protective workwear is available for everyone’sdisposal in the workplace while the employee is personallyresponsible for its proper use.

GO-RT 3279 - APPROVED GARMENTS FORRAIL WORKERSThe GO/RT 3279 standard is based on the European standard EN471:2003. It requires garments to meet at least class 2 (the mid-point of a3-class scale) of EN 471 for the minimum area of high visibility materialsused within a garment. Whereas the European standard permits severaldifferent colours of high visibility materials, the railway standardspecifies an orange colour.Railway locomotive headlights pick out retroreflective materials in highvisibility clothing. Again the railway standard draws on EN 471:2003 andspecifies materials for use that meet the highest level of photometric

performance criteria that are specified within the standard.GO/RT 3279 also defines the requirements for a high visibility minivest.These are required to conform to class 1 design requirements of EN471:2003, except they need to exceed the requirements in EN 471 forboth the minimum area of the orange background material andretroreflective tape used in the garment.

EN14786 2006This is also known as the air atomiser test which tests for chemicalsprayed under pressure. You’ll see on the logo there is a leaf, thisindicates that it is suitable for use with pesticides and herbicides.

To ensure proper use of your Hi Visibility workwear the jacketmust be zipped to ensure that the reflective tape is not visiblybroken and the reflective tapes on the legs must not be coveredby the boots.

GO-RT 3279 - APPROVED GARMENTS FORRAIL WORKERSThe GO/RT 3279 standard is based on the European standardEN471:2003. It requires garments to meet at least class 2 (the mid-pointof a 3-class scale) of EN 471 for the minimum area of high visibilitymaterials used within a garment. Whereas the European standardpermits several different colours of high visibility materials, the railwaystandard specifies an orange colour.

Railway locomotive headlights pick out retroreflective materials in highvisibility clothing. Again the railway standard draws on EN 471:2003 andspecifies materials for use that meet the highest level of photometricperformance criteria that are specified within the standard.GO/RT 3279 also defines the requirements for a high visibility minivest.These are required to conform to class 1 design requirements of EN471:2003, except they need to exceed the requirements in EN 471 forboth the minimum area of the orange background material andretroreflective tape used in the garment.

ATEX DIRECTIVEThe ATEX Directive defines what equipment is permitted in an environment where an explosive atmosphere may exist. We recommend using garmentscertified to EN1149 and EN ISO 11611 for added protection in an ATEX environment.

THERMAL HAZARDS OF AN ELECTRIC ARCAn electric ARC or blast as a result of a disruption (e.g.) a short circuit)in an electric installation generates a sudden release of intense heatand light causing serious burns, blindness or even death. This blazingbright electric discharge between two conducting electrodes lasts for a very short time (0.5 sec, 1 sec and rarely >1 sec) develops a very strong radiant heat (several thousands °C creates high physical forces, a pressure wave and generates

pressure shrapnel generates a splash of molten metal particles or even generates

vaporized metal up to 165 db noise

general oVerViewHere is a simple guide on how to measure yourself for your correctsizes. It is advised that you take your body measurements as opposedto measurements over your clothes. Select the corresponding size tothe measurement taken. i.e. if you have a 40” chest select the 40” jacket.If you are a 41” select the 42” jacket. All our sizes are what they say they are, so if you have a 35” waist thenwe strongly suggest you opt for the 36” waist trouser rather than the34”. By the very nature of formal events, it is unlikely you will be fastingwhen wearing your suit! In any case, our trousers come with sideadjusters to reduce the waist size by up to 2 inches if required.

Jacket chest sizeMeasure around your back and across your chest at the fullest part.

Jacket lengthThis is best taken from an existing jacket in your collection. Themeasurement is taken from the base of the collar at the back of thejacket down to the bottom of the jacket.

sleeVe lengthAgain this is best taken from an existing jacket. Measure from the tip ofthe shoulder at the join where the arm meets the body of the jacket,down to the end of the sleeve.

trouser waistMeasure the area on your waist where you like to wear your trousers.This should be your natural waistline for formal trousers, however thisis down to personal comfort.

trouser inside legThis is often best taken from an existing pair of well fitting trousers youhave. Measure from the crotch down the inside seam to the end of thetrouser leg. When wearing formal trousers, the trouser leg should justbreak on your shoe when standing up straight. We offer a choice of 3leg lengths, however each pair come finished with approximately 1.5inches of hem, so they can easily be adjusted if needed.

shirt collar sizeMeasure around the middle of your neck, and depending on how looseyou require the collar, you may want to take the next half size up.

shirt sleeVe lengthThis measurement is taken from the centre back of the shirt to the endof the arm. Our shirts only come in one sleeve length per collar size. Asa general rule, they have fairly generous regular length arms. There issome minor adjustment in the double cuffs, but if you have relativelyshort arms, you may need to wear arm bands.
