Major Opportunity for BarbershoppersBarbershop Arrangement AvailableMusic Monday Song – “Is Somebody Singing”Free Download of Sheet Music and Voice Parts Renowned Canadian Barbershoppers, Chris Arnold, has produced and made available anarrangement and learning tracks for the 2013 Music Monday Song: “Is SomebodySinging”. Chris had been contracted to the Coalition for Music Education in Canada towrite the Barbershop arrangement of the song composed by Chris Hadfield, CanadianCommander of the International Space Station, and Ed Robertson, lead of the “BareNaked Ladies”. In 2012 an estimated 750,000 people of all ages participated in Music Monday, not onlyacross Canada, but several other locations around the globe. Among these numbers wereseveral Barbershop Choruses which were paired up with community and school choirs tosing the Music Monday Song. This year on Monday, May 6, it is anticipated that mostBarbershop Choruses will sing, or at least be represented in singing the Music MondaySong, because the Coalition for Music Education in Canada has partnered with theCanadian Space Agency and CBC Music and is now working with the BarbershopHarmony Society. It is hoped that every men’s and women’s Barbershop Chorus willreach out to children’s, young people’s and other singing and music groups around theglobe. Without a doubt this is one of the greatest opportunities for community service and youthoutreach for Barbershop Choruses. It is global in nature and application. It isrecommended that every barbershop chorus register for participation in Music Monday atwww.musicMonday.ca and link up with a youth or school singing group in their own localcommunity. Further announcements on the availability of the barbershop arrangement andlearning tracks will be made in the near future. Many prefer to donate onlineOnline donations to Sing Canada Harmony Scholarship Fund are growing in popularitydue to a number of factors. Barbershoppers and other donors have found that income taxreceipts are available immediately, or for monthly giving, can be deferred until year end.Online donations are safe and secure, simple to set up and require no further work on thepart of the donor. These factors are particularly attractive for individuals who are busythrough work or those who just want to set up a donation process and forget about it. It isimportant to note that income tax receipts can only be issued to the one individual whomakes the donation. Donations from quartets or other groups must be made by eachindividual in order that each receive an income tax receipt. Online donors are allowed to designate all or part of their donations as a Living orMemorial Tribute and write a short message that will be delivered to the individualhonoured, or in the case of Memorial tributes, to the surviving family. Sing CanadaHarmony, on receipt of an onlinedonation, automatically sends an acknowledgment to the donor and the person beinghonoured or the surviving family. It is possible for special funds to be set up online toreceive Memorial and other tribute donations for the purposes of establishing ascholarship fund in the name of a particular individual; for further information contactSing Canada Harmony at 6134462734. Monthly giving is convenient, secure and particularly popular among Presidents CouncilMembers and Ambassadors of Song. For as little as $10 per month Barbershoppers andother donors can become Ambassadors of Song at the Sponsor Level and be recognizedthroughout the entire Barbershop Community as supporters of Barbershop Harmony, youth and the training that is conducted by the 3 Barbershop singing organizations.Ambassadors of Song receive a special ribbon for wearing on convention or regular namebadges. This is a “donor only” recognition. Ambassadors of Song is an annual givingprogram

Page 8: Hi there, - Sing Canada Harmony – Scholarship Fund

Just as popular are the online donations for President’s Council which start at $85 permonth. This minimum amount qualifies President’s Council members at the Partner Level, although many donors prefer the simplicity of donating $100 per month and receiving anincome tax receipt at yearend. For President’s Council only, recognition and VIP status isextended to the spouse or partner. Not only are Presidents Council members recognizedon display boards at International Conventions of the Barbershop Harmony Society andsome District Conventions, they are given special VIP status at International Conventionsfor the purposes of VIP seating, early hotel registration, VIP registration with specialname tag at International Conventions, use of the VIP lounge, summer, an invitation to theVIP reception hosted by Harmony Foundation International Inc. President’s Council is anannual giving program for which recognition and VIP status starts as soon as theindividual or couple registers. Further information about online giving may be directed to any member of the SingCanada Harmony Board of Directors, by visiting the websitewww.SingCanadaHarmony.ca or by telephoning Sing Canada Harmony at 6134462734. Thank You Sing Canada – By Scott DurwardEach year, Sing Canada issues scholarships to many people who would like to furthertheir education in music or to participate in a music program across the country. This year,Sing Canada granted me a scholarship to attend the Leadership Academy held fromJanuary 4 6, 2013 at Geneva Park in Orillia Ontario Canada. The benefits of attendingthis rewarding weekend were evident right from the start. First we met our new societypresident and found ourselves singing off the top. Chris Peterson and Paul Ellinger wereour keynotes for the weekend and their influence was felt everywhere. I attended thechorus director's learning track and found great value in all that Chris Peterson had tooffer. Since I am new to the director's chair, his class gave me a road map to establish abase to build from for my chorus. In closing, I wish to encourage everyone to support and donate to Sing Canada(http://www.singcanadaharmony.ca/) for all of the great works they assist in makinghappen. Sing Canada is there to make the funds available for those who want to keepimproving and those who want to improve music in our communities. The Myrtlewood S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. Clock. just the right grain and color for the articles he has in mind. After marking, then bandsawing, the pieces are roughedout to approximate size and shape. As soon as the wood issufficiently cured, the "roughouts" are put back on the lathe. Only the eye, hand, and skillof the craftsman guide the chisel as he fashions each piece individually. After sanding, thepieces are sent to the finishing room, where much time is devoted to applying a fine finishwhich will protect the wood as well as enhance the grain and color.A time may come when the supply of highly figured Myrtlewood will be depleted and themanufacturing of the articles from this wood may cease.
