Day October 4, 2019 Huron Highlights On September 25th, Arts Huron Theatre students travelled to the Stratford Festival to see performances of "The Merry Wives of Windsor" and "Little Shop of Horrors." Students also participated in a prologue and “q & a” sessions with actors. It was an excellent opportunity for our AHT students to learn about, and network with, professional artists at North America's premier Repertory Theatre Company. Congratulations to the Jr. and Sr. Football teams on their recent victories. The Huron Heights Varsity Boys Soccer team defeated GW Williams 2-1 on Tuesday. The team was excellent all around. Congratulations to Daniel Borg, Easton Dobbie, and Burke Rawlinson, who all qualified for the York Region Boys Golf Championship. The Junior Girls Basketball team consistently put forth a solid effort in recent games and tournaments . Offence was lead by Avah Tighe, Heidi Farrell and Gabby Fisher and defense was lead by Kennedy Jackson, Morgan Sullivan and Michaela Berardi. Congratulations to the Huron Cross Country team for a great performance at the Colts Classic Meet. Leading the way were Maisyn B, who won the novice girls race, Mikayla B, who was third in the Senior girls race, Nia P who was fourth in the novice girls race, and Paolo C who was sixth in the senior boys race. The whole team ran well Great work! Good luck in your next race.

Math Help

The Math Help Room will open beginning the week of September 16th, 2019 in Room 312. It will be open every day from 12:30 – 1:00 pm when we

follow a regular timetable (closed on days when we follow assembly schedules). Signs will be posted in all math classrooms, as well as the

library, guidance office, main office and hallways. It is open to grades 9-12.

Health Care Plans

Health care plans are created for students who are at known risk for specific medical emergencies due to diabetes, asthma, anaphylactic allergies and/or diabetes or who may require daily medical routine management that at school. These plans inform staff of the necessary steps to keep your child safe. If your child has diabetes, asthma, anaphylactic allergies, diabetes or other condition, please have your child pick up the necessary form from the main office. Please return the form to the main office once completed.

Donations Needed

Donations of toiletry items (deodorant, sanitary napkins, tampons, body wash, etc.) are needed so that we can provide free toiletry items for both males and females who may need them. Donations can be dropped off at the main office. Thank you for your contribution!

Serenity Room

The HHSS Serenity Room is a quiet space meant to be a calm retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the building. Students may quietly reflect, read, or rest in this space. Anyone is free to use this room during lunch and “spares” but must have a teacher’s permission to access this space during class time.

Football Buy-in October 10

The Jr. and Sr. football teams will play home games on October 10 during periods 4 and 5, respectively. Students wishing to attend must buy tickets and have approval from their teachers. Tickets will be available Monday, October 7 - Wednesday October 9 in the cafeteria. Students attending the buy-in will be marked absent by their classroom teachers. Grade 9-10 students may attend the Jr. game (period 4). Grade 11-12 students may attend the Sr. game (period 5). Students will need to present their student photo ID card with their ticket to gain admission to the game.

Looking for something to do over lunch?All students welcome to participate in various activities during their lunch. Activities will begin 25 minutes into the lunch period (eat first).

Want to get more information?Field Trip to the Ontario College Fair on October 24th- pick up permission forms in Guidance - limited space available - permission form and fee must be returned by October 22nd - priority first given to students in their final year of high school

All Grade 12 students – Credit Counselling Summaries were distributed in homerooms on Friday September 13th – students were asked to verify that all information was correct and that they had everything in place for meeting their graduation requirements (30 credits – 18 compulsory and 12 electives; 40 Community Involvement Hours; Literacy Test/Course). Students were asked to follow up with a guidance counsellor if they have questions.

Grade 9 Guidance Visits - between September 25 and Oct 2 - all grade 9 homerooms visited Guidance to get acquainted with the office and the services we offer, how to book an appointment, a review of what is required to graduate and to discuss the completion of community service hours.

Accelerated OYAPAccelerated OYAP (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program) is an opportunity for students in Grade 12 who are enrolled in a full day Cooperative Education program in semester 2 to apply for a seat in a Level 1 - Basic training program partnered with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
