Fort Worth Weekly Holiday Guide 2010 3
Every year, a massive amount of snowflakes happily find their way to Winter Park Resort. They land on more than 3,000 acres of world-class terrain, covering the steeps, deeps, glades, groomers and the #1-rated bumps in North America at Mary Jane®. The best part? More of those big, happy snowflakes are arriving all season long—amounting to 29 feet of average annual snowfall.

Holiday HostingHoliday Hosting
Get in the holiday mood with candles and soft music. Make plenty of seating room for conversation and set up a kid-friendly area if needed. Do make your way out of the kitchen to mingle as often as you can and remember you are not just accommodating, but hosting.
At dinner make sure your centerpiece isn’t too big or tall that guests can’t see or talk to each other. Also, try separating couples to spark up some new conversation. Serving up the classics while hosting a holiday dinner is a great idea, but throw in a new side dish or special cranberry sauce recipe to mix things up and be memorable.
Fort Worth Weekly Holiday Guide 2010 9
Serve your guest pronto with a beverage. What’s great with turkey? Dry Chardonnay or full flavored Pino Noir. Beer lovers will love Amber Lagers like Negra Modelo or Dos XX Lager with their bird.
Your guests will leave satisfied and full, but giving them a gift to nibble on when they do get hungry again is a nice idea. Vending Nut Company has great fruits, nuts, and chocolate dipped goodies that wrap up perfectly for a goodnight gift.
Need a starter? Deviled eggs are back and all the rage. Easy to make and extra add-ins like jalapenos, cheese, or shrimp (like these shown) bring them into 2010. Or keep it really simple with cheese and crackers or red and green veggies with dip.
Central Market has delicious
desserts available in store or for order.
Classic pumpkin, cherry, apple pies and more
extravagant pecan chocolate or strawberry rhubarb await.

JANUARY 28-30, 2011JANUARY 28-30, 2011GRAND OPENING EVENT!
ZestFest 2011 Turns Up the Heat In Irving Texas at the New Convention Center!
Can You TakeThe Heat?
Can You TakeThe Heat?
Texans who appreciate the hotter things in life are invited to indulge in a fiery food experience January 28-30, as ZestFest 2011 is the Grand Opening Event for the brand new Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas. This will be the 7th year that ZestFest will be held in the DFW Metroplex. Promising to make this its hottest food festival and competition yet, ZestFest 2011 brings together the spiciest exhibitors and products from around the country for one sizzling weekend. Hosted by Chile Pepper magazine, the experts on all things hot and spicy, ZestFest is one of the largest events in the country that showcases the zestiest products on the market. From ‘mom & pop’ brands to industry leaders, ZestFest provides an opportunity for companies to put their wares in front of not only the consumer, but also those in the industry, including retail buyers and restaurants. In addition to the plethora of zesty prod-ucts available for sampling, ZestFest offers a wide range of entertainment throughout the 3-day event. The main stage celebrity cooking demonstrations allow guests to ask questions and get tips from the region’s most renowned chefs. Top chefs returning this year include Jon Bonnell, Eddie Deen, Lou Lambert and
Grady Spears, just to name a few. Visitors can watch fierce competition between gastronomic rivals or prove their gusto by participating in Wing Stops Atomic wing eating contest, which is returning this year, or the jalapeño eating contest. From live music to food competitions, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Due to the growing demand, ZestFest is opening its doors to the public one day early on Friday, January 28th from 3pm to 7pm, as well as Saturday, January 29th from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday, January 30th from 10am to 4pm. Admission to the event includes tastings, entertain-ment, as well as all the cooking demonstrations. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. Children under 10 are free. Trade Buyers are invited to come during private hours on Friday, from 11am to 3pm.

Berenice Abbott, Margaret Bourke-White, and Walker Evans were three pioneering photographers from
the 1930s whose work is the subject of American Modern: Abbott, Evans, Bourke-White, hanging through
January 2, 2011 at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art (3501 Camp Bowie Blvd.).
A magical metropolis is the site of flights of fantasy (and dazzling acrobatics) in Cirque Dreams Illumination,
an extravaganza set to an original score of jazz, ballroom, pop, and more that will be playing at
Bass Performance Hall (525 Commerce St.) from Tue., Nov. 30, through Sun., Dec. 5.
“Private Africa” Vernon Fisher
Berenice Abbott (1898–1991)Manhattan Bridge Looking Up, 1936
Through January 2, 2011, at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (3200 Darnell St.), catch Fort Worth artist
Vernon Fisher’s K-Mart Conceptualism, a concise career retrospective spanning nearly 40 years. Fisher’s post-
modernist sculptures, text pieces, and photorealist paintings interrogate the bloody crossroads between
high art and popular culture. K-Mart Conceptualism is the first Modern survey devoted entirely to a local artist.

Fiery Pool: The Maya and the Mythic Sea is a collection of more than 90 pieces, most recently excavated and never before seen in the United States, documenting the relationship between the Maya and water. Fiery Pool will be on display at the Kimbell Art
Museum (3333 Camp Bowie Blvd.) through January 2, 2011.
Since New Year’s Eve is on a Friday this year, you can bet that the bars in the West 7th corridor will be especially packed. Best bet: Park your car and make the rounds on foot (and
hail a cab when you’re ready to head home). All within walking distance of one another are Lola’s Saloon (2736 W.
6th St.), The Pour House (2725 W. 7th St.), Shamrock Tavern (2708 W. 7th St.), Poag Mahone’s (700 Carroll St.), and
7th Haven (2700 W. 7th St.). And just a short walk away are Fred’s Texas Café (915 Currie St.), Capital Bar (3017
Morton St.), Magnolia Motor Lounge (3005 Morton St.), Pop’s Safari (2929 Morton St.), and The Grotto (517 University Dr.).
On Wed., Dec. 8, and Thu., Dec. 9, at the Will Rogers Memorial Center (3301 W. Lancaster Ave.), Ballet
Concerto will perform The Christmas Grump, an original holiday ballet based on How the Grinch Stole
Christmas. Swingin’ into the Holidays, a ballet performed to familiar Christmas tunes, is also on tap, along with O Holy Night, a balletic reenactment of the Nativity.
From Fri., Nov. 26, through Thu., Dec. 23, at Casa Mañana Theatre (3101 W. Lancaster Ave.), the beloved stop-motion television classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer will come to life. Casa’s production will feature Rudolph, Hermey the Elf, the Abominable Snow Monster, Yukon Cornelius, the misfit toys, and every other lovable character, including that jolly fat guy in the red suit.
