Position Title: Coordinator of Private Sector Membership Services (Chief negotiator, senior leadership team) Are you ready to help lead one of the most successful North American campaigns to organize and represent health care workers in contracted out and privatized health services? The Hospital Employees’ Union is looking for an energetic and highly motivated individual from the labour movement who has extensive experience organizing new members, bargaining in the private sector and administering collective agreements to join our leadership team. This is a fulltime and permanent position. The position reports directly to the union’s Secretary-Business Manager (essentially, the union’s CEO). The Coordinator is a creative and passionate leader providing vision and guidance for organizing campaigns, coordinated bargaining strategies and the ongoing administration of all private sector collective agreements. The Coordinator will oversee the union’s efforts to provide support and advocacy to our private sector membership. The position contributes to maintaining relationships/networks with labour and community allies in accordance with the union’s strategic objectives and social justice principles. The Coordinator directly and indirectly supervises up to 25 staff members including bargainers, servicing representatives and organizers.

The candidate must have the following experience:

Leading negotiations in major sector bargaining. Must be able to show at least 10 years of direct experience with at least two of those years showing experience negotiating on behalf of large (25,000+ member) unions with multiple collective bargaining units/collective agreements.

Organizing new workers into the Union movement. Must be able to show at least 10 years of direct experience.

Working with labour relations boards. Must be able to show at least 10 years of direct experience.

Leading workplace and community campaigns. Must be able to show at least 5 years of direct experience.

Administrating and enforcing collective agreements. Must be able to show at least 10 years of direct experience with at least two of those years showing experience administering agreements on behalf of large (25,000+ member) unions with multiple collective bargaining units/collective agreements.

Providing leadership and motivating staff and members. Must be able to show at least 2 years of experience managing a staff of at least 20 individuals

Supervising in a unionized setting. Education Experience The successful applicant will have a Bachelor Degree from a recognized educational institution. Preferred courses of study include Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Economics or Commerce. About the Hospital Employees’ Union

Salary as of April 1, 2015 paid Bi-weekly $4,465, Annual $116,083 (April 1, 2016 1.5% increase, April 1, 2017 1.4% increase)

Vacation: starts at 6 weeks (30 days), one additional day earned each subsequent year up to a maximum of 9 weeks (45 days)

13 Statutory Holidays

Sick Leave – 72 hours upon starting and then hours are earned at the rate of 129.6 per year. If employed for 6 years or more, sick leave bank will be paid out at 40% up to a maximum of 1,123.2 hours when leaving employment

Special leave benefits - hours are earned at 46.8 hours per year to a maximum of 180 and include paid time for leave regarding household or domestic emergencies at 2 days at a time or marriage leave of 5 days

Vehicle insurance will be reimbursed and provided their vehicle meets the criteria of 12 litres or less per 100 km they will be given a gas card for business use, if vehicle meets threshold of 8 litres or less per 100 km a $100 per month transportation allowance will be paid in addition to the gas card

Clothing Allowance – annual $977.21 (Taxable – no receipts required)

Fitness Allowance – annual $150 (Taxable – receipts required)

Smartphone for business use is provided
