Welcome to the Hesston Recreation 2017 Winter Catalog. Winter sports are here! Basketball season kicks off for the older
players and we look forward to a fun Wonder Kids Basketball Clinic for the younger ones. Indoor soccer will follow on the heels of basketball and throw in a couple of fun trips, and spring will be here before we know it.
The catalog is full of amazing opportunities provided by Hesston Recreation and the community for all ages and interests. Please take a moment to take in all the Hesston Community offers.
Hesston Recreation is committed to providing the experiences of Fun, Fellowship and Fitness in all our activities and opportunity for everyone. Let’s keep the activities we enjoy and find new ones. All the programs offered are made possible by you! Please let me know if you are interested in helping with any activity, creating a new activity or have feedback to improve on your old favorites.

ENROLLMENT INFORMATION
Information and registration for HRCE’s events is
available at www.hrce.org. Assistance with the
registration process and scholarship
information is available in the Hesston
Recreation office. The office is at 303 Park
Road on the northeast side of Hesston High
School. Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Mondays – Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on
Fridays. The Hesston Recreation office is closed on
holidays.
LATE REGISTRATION POLICY
Registrations submitted after the registration
deadline will be assessed a $10 late fee. Late
registrations are accepted based on space
availability in the activity. Families that
recently relocated to USD 460 will be exempt
from the late fee.
ALL AGES WELCOME
Everyone is invited to participate in HRCE
programs and activities: students, parents,
working and retired people. Enrollment
priority is given to USD 460 patrons. Friends
from outside the school district are welcome
to enroll on a space-available basis.
SHARE YOUR TALENTS If you are interested in sharing a skill or talent
with others, give us a call. We always are looking for
new activities, and we need instructors for
them. The pay is competitive, and it is a
great way to meet and help people. Call us
for more information about how you can be a part
of sharing your talent with others.
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE Hesston Recreation is pleased to offer
scholarship opportunities based on the following
policy:
Those on free or reduced-price lunches
through USD 460 are eligible for a 50 percent
scholarship. Those on KanCare Insurance will
receive a 100 percent scholarship. There is a
$75-per-child limit per fiscal year. Our fiscal years
run July 1 through June 30 of the following year. No
scholarships will be offered on pool passes.
SENIOR CITIZEN PASS This pass is available to persons age 65 or
retired, who reside within the boundaries of Hesston
USD 460. The pass provides free admission to all
Hesston USD 460 home athletic competitions
with the exception of tournaments and post-
season play. Reserved seating involves an
additional charge. It also provides discounted
admission for other selected activities with an
admission charge. Questions regarding the use of
this pass should be directed to the district office at
620-327-4931.
GET AN HRCE CATALOG Hesston Recreation catalogs are available on
the Hesston Recreation Web site at www.hrce.org.
Catalogs also are available at the Hesston

Indoor soccer offered for 1-6th graders
Deadline: Jan. 5
Hesston Recreation will offer indoor soccer for three divisions this winter. First- and 2nd-graders will be in the junior division; 3rd- & 4th-graders will be in the intermediate division; and 5th- & 6th-graders will be in the senior division. Teams will be coed .
Games will be played on Saturdays starting in February and ending in mid-March. Evening games will be scheduled as needed, based on number of teams. Your child will play on all the Saturdays and possibly a weekday evening, based on division.
COST: $25 per child. The fee includes a T-shirt. If you volunteer to
be a head coach, your child's fee will be waived. Registrations will be accepted after the deadline only if squads are not full.

Calling all kindergarten through 2nd-grade basketball players. Hesston Recreation is pleased to offer an introduction to the funda-mentals of basketball clinic. The clinic will intro-duce the skills of dribbling, passing, shooting and more in a high-energy 4-week program.
DAYS: Saturdays Jan. 6, 13, 20, 27 TIMES: 1st and 2nd grades: 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Kindergarten: 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. WHERE: Hesston Elementary School gym FEE: $25 covers registration, T-shirt and basketball. A $10 late fee will apply after that. Parents who are able to commit to working all 4 weeks will be refunded their registration fee.

YOUTH TRACK MEET IS MAY 5 FOR PRE-K–6TH GRADERS
The Hesston Youth Track Meet will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018. The event is sponsored by Hesston HS and MS Track teams & Hesston Recreation.
Awards will be given to 1st- through 8th-place finishers. Pre-K through 6th grade students can sign up for a combination of running and field events. Entry forms will be available online.
DATE: Saturday, May 5, 2018 TIME: Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. for running and
field events, with field events beginning at 9 a.m. Registration for those athletes competing only in running events will begin at ap-proximately 9:15 a.m., with competition in running events starting at approximately 10:45 a.m.
WHERE: Hesston High School track and football stadium COST/DEADLINE: $10 per athlete if registration is received

COACHING OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE
HRCE always is looking for youth sports activity coaches. If you enjoy working with boys and girls from first through sixth grades and have some working knowledge of basketball, soccer, baseball or softball, we would like to visit with you further about volunteer coaching.
HRCE strongly supports opportunities designed to offer each child playing experience as a member of a team.
Parents may contact Ryan Magill at 327-2989 or [email protected], or sign up on the youth sports registration envelope their child brings home or is mailed home prior to the beginning of each sport.

The Emma Creek Quilt Guild meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Hesston Area Senior Center, 108 E. Randall St. Anyone
from beginning to advanced skill level who enjoys making or hearing about quilting would enjoy these monthly meetings. This is a great opportunity for a learning time, as well as a sharing time of quilting projects. Visitors are welcome to attend a couple times free of charge. The annual membership fee is $20.

WALK LOGS/ROUTES AVAILABLE
Believe it or not, a person who weighs 150 pounds will burn off 600 calories per hour while playing basketball, 690 bicycling, 350 playing golf, 250 while shopping and 350 during one hour of fitness walking. Why not begin your own fitness walking program?
Whether you walk a few
blocks or a few miles, you can use our logbook that will give you maps and measures of routes through town and a chart so you can record your mileage. You can pick up a copy of the walk log at the HRCE office.
Walk - it’s fun and it’s the “fitting” thing to do year-round.
Join the fun, fellowship & exercise of noon-hour basketball from noon to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the Hesston High School main gym. Please use the north parking lot and come in through the Rec office doors. A locker room will be available for changing & showers, but you’ll need to bring your own towel.

Hop into the event on March 30
Hesston Rec and Golden Plains Credit Union will
continue the longtime tradition of a community Easter Egg
Hunt for children on Friday, March 30, 2018.
The event is for children from toddler-age through 4th
grade. The hunt will be at 10 a.m. at King Park, Heritage
Park and Hesston Middle School. Various areas are
reserved for each age/grade group, and plenty of colorful
Easter eggs and candy will be hidden so every “little
hunter” goes away with a special Easter treat.
Watch for more information in The Hesston Record just
prior to Easter. HRCE also will distribute a flyer with details
through the schools.

29th EMMA CREEK CLASSIC 5K Saturday, April 28, 2018
9:30 a.m. at Hesston High School
SHIRTS: The runners’ shirts this year are white with dark pink and lime green ink! Shirts are available in short-sleeved, long-sleeved, dry-fit, women’s cut and youth sizes. The cost of registration starts at $19 and increases depending on the kind of shirt selected. ONLINE REGISTRATION: Register online at www.hrce.org (click on Emma Creek 5k at the top). You can register using a computer or cell phone. PAPER REGISTRATIONS: Those who wish to register using a paper registration should contact Hesston Recreation to request a form. PACKET PICKUP: Packets may be picked up from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 26; from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 27; or starting at 8 a.m. on race day. INDIVIDUALS/TEAMS: You can join as an individual or with a team. All teams must have at least 5 members. The first member of a team to sign up a team online will put a team name. After that the other members of the team will click on that team name when they register. We do not accept team entries on race day. Kinds of teams: Family team - related by blood or marriage Workplace team - employed by the same institution or who share common office space Special interest team - in the same club, church, etc. CERTIFICATION: A chip timing system is used for the race, which is a certified fast and flat course. REFUNDS: There will be NO refunds after April 20. SALE: Items from previous races will be for sale before the race. BUFFET/CEREMONY: There is a buffet of fruit, pastries and beverages available to runners after the race. An awards ceremony follows the race. STUDENTS: All Kansas middle school and high school track and field athletes are not eligible to enter or compete in this event due to KSHSAA rules. Reservations of facilities for activities not sponsored by Hesston USD 460 and HRCE shall be arranged by contacting one of the following three offices: 1) district administrative office (commons, kitchens, gymnasiums, classrooms, parking lots, auditorium, and stadium); 2) recreation office (ball diamonds, soccer fields, swimming pool, tennis courts, and gymnasiums for practices); or 3) The Pit Stop.
Reservations of any other spaces are at the discretion of the superintendent. Reservation of any facility ensures the user of access to restrooms, drinking fountains, and furniture regularly used in the facility. District facilities will not be rented on the day of or the day prior to New Years, Easter, and Christmas; nor the day of or the day after Thanksgiving. A half day is four hours or less; a full day is anything in excess of four hours. Additional facility rental terms are available through the USD 460 administration office, 620-327-4931. The city of Hesston maintains two park multi-use facilities that may be
reserved by an organization or individual. These facilities are the
Heritage Park shelter house and the King Park community-use facility.
These buildings are in great demand, therefore, a reservation procedure
has been established.
Reservations are to be made through City Hall during regular working hours by calling
620-327-4412
Reservations shall be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Payment of rental fees must be made at the time the reservation is made.
Reservations will be taken for no more than one year in advance.
Rental fees for park facilities are available through the city office.
Rental fees will be refunded if the reservation is cancelled by notifying City Hall of the
cancellation at least three days in advance of the rental date. Additional rental terms and
agreements are available through City Hall.
