Hertford Castle Gatehouse is a Grade I listed building, originally built on the site of a Norman Castle in Hertford, the county town of Hertfordshire. Steeped in history the magnificent Grade I listed building dates from the early 15th century and was once a Royal Palace for over 300 years, where Queen Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood.
Hidden from view by the surrounding 12th century flint and stone wall, Hertford Castle stands proudly in beautiful secluded grounds alongside the tree lined River Lea. A symbol of its continuing history this prestigious location offers a picturesque and exclusive venue full of style and elegance.

Wedding CeremoniesHertford Castle Gatehouse is licensed for civil ceremonies, partnerships and renewal of marriage vows.
We offer exclusive hire of the beautiful rooms within the Castle’s Downshire Suite which were remodelled in Georgian Style by the Marquess of Downshire in the reign of George III.
To assist in making the planning of your special day as simple as possible, we have designed just two wedding packages and our team would be happy to discuss these with you.
