Parachuting fun on Courtyard! Our Fitness Room has a lot of users each day. ColleenW. and Lysle S. are two of the most frequent visitors.

Flower and herb seeds are planted. We'll transplantthem to our patio areas soon.

O'Kennedy Irish Dancers performed for us to celebrate St. Patrick's day. Lysle S. keeps our seedlings watered daily.Jane H. loves painting. You can find her creatingbeautiful scenes every Thursday afternoon.

other friends. The two clicked instantly. Theymarried just a few years later in Rochester,Michigan in 1959.

Jean’s husband worked as a Certified PublicAccountant and he, too, loved his job. Gene wasan avid antique collector, and the two lovedtraveling the state exploring antique shops.They also owned vintage cars and would oftendrive in parades and participate in car shows.Jean retired early from

Chrysler and was able to spend time athome with her family. Gene and Jean had onedaughter, Susan, who is now a Doctor of Phar-macy at The University of Michigan. Jean hastwo granddaughters, Claire and Audrey.

For fun Jean loves to read. Her favorite genreis mystery. She also loves to antique and exploreflea markets. Jean also enjoys watching an-tiquing shows such as American Pickers and

loves to watch old movies.Her favorite meal is home-made steak and mashedpotatoes. For desert, shewould choose pecan icecream with double choco-late cake. At Linden SquareJean enjoys exercising,Bingo, and the musicevents. She also loves tovisit with her family andloves that they are so close.We are so honored to haveJean as our Resident Spot-light this month and lookforward to many morememories with her.

Jean M.Jean M. was born on April 25th in Detroit,

Michigan. Jean was the only child of two veryloving parents. Frank, her father, was an Armyveteran and worked on the line at ChryslerMotor Company. Her mother, Eva, was aschool teacher. Jean described both of her par-ents as funny, kind, hardworking people wholoved their jobs. Growing up, Jean’s familymoved quite a few times around the Detroitarea. However, she always maintained lots offriendships and recalls an extremely happychildhood.

In school Jean was very involved in extracurriculars and sports. She played almost every-thing her school had to offer but especiallyloved baseball and basketball. She loved ridingbikes and was always outside with her friendsenjoying nature. During the summer, Jean lovedto swim in the lake near her family’s home inRochester. Outside ofsports, Jean also took pri-vate violin lessons.

Jean graduated fromRochester High School andshortly after went to Oak-land University to take afew business classes and re-fresher courses on short-hand which were requiredfor her position as a secre-tary at Chrysler—a careerthat Jean loved and tookpride in. Soon after shebegan at Chrysler, she metthe love of her life, Gene,on a blind date with two

The love of Fran’s life is Robert. They graduatedhigh school together but didn’t meet up again until alecture in college. After dating for a while, he took heron a picnic and proposed. They were married MemorialDay weekend in 1977. Bob worked at the Ann ArborPost Office for 35 years. He is a volunteer at Mott Chil-dren’s Hospital and is a golf fanatic. They live in Salinein the house they’ve owned for 28 years. He and Franhave two children. Alicia is a Special Education pre-school teacher in Saline. Keith lives in Tennessee and isgetting married this June. They have two grandchildren,Jameson and Jane. She has a giant schnauzer namedTrotter who is 12. She rescued him when he was 1.When Fran has free time, she enjoys sitting outside andreading in good weather, working in the yard, puttingfamily photos in order, organizing her recipes, andworking around her house. She loves to cook and enjoystrying new recipes from magazines and cooking shows.Her favorite meal is her mom’s holiday meals becauseshe puts so much love into making them delicious andmemorable. She also loves her mom’s cheesecake cup-cakes.

Fran enjoys working at Lin-den Square because of the resi-dents and her coworkers andbecause the atmosphere is like afamily looking out for and car-ing about others. We are hon-ored to have Fran as our LindenLeader this month because sheis caring, kind, compassionate,and friendly. This month isFran’s third anniversary with us,and we are looking forward tocelebrating it with her and mak-ing many more memories in thefuture. Thank you for all youdo, Fran!

Frances Marie L. – Culinary AideOur Linden Leader for May is Frances Marie L. She

was chosen by last month’s Leader, Jasmine Sirvart C.Jasmine chose Fran because she has been with LindenSquare for so long and is such a dedicated, hard worker.

Frances Marie L. was born in Franklin, LA on Au-gust 20th to parents Joseph and Tina. She was namedafter her grandmother on her mother’s side. Joseph wasa Research Assistant at University of Michigan. He wasborn in Sicily and came to the United States when hewas 19 years old. He was an amazing father. Tina stayedhome to raise and nurture Fran and her six siblings:Sarah, John, Ann, Catherine, Mary, and Carmela. Theylived in Luling, LA until Fran was in second grade andmoved to Monroe, MI. Joseph began his job at U of M,so they moved to Ann Arbor.

Fran attended St. Michael’s in Monroe for thirdgrade. When they moved to Ann Arbor, she attendedSt. Francis from third to eighth grade. She loved herfriends, lunch, and recess. She appreciated that herschool was small and she knew everyone in her class.During high school there was no organized sport forgirls, so she swam on her neighborhood swim team.They competed against otherteams in the area. Her favoritehigh school memory is going toprom with her date and friends.She loved getting her drivers li-cense and being able to go outon Friday nights to schooldances or to ride around town.She graduated from St. Thomasin Ann Arbor in 1972. Fran at-tended Eastern Michigan Uni-versity and graduated in 1972with a degree in Early Elemen-tary Education. She was a sub-stitute teacher for a couple ofyears. She worked a summer jobat U of M and ended up stay-ing until she retired 35 yearslater.

Nurses Week

May 6-12

Mid-spring brings about a lot of changes... the leavesstart to fill-in and turn green, the temperatures rise, thedays get longer, and the Detroit Tigers are officiallyplaying ball. Between the weekly baseball games, back-yard barbecues and tending to the garden, we’d like totake a moment to remind families we are always listen-ing! We are committed as a facility to understanding ourresidents’ experiences and identifying ways to continu-ally improve. If at any time you or your loved one havea concern, please make sure and reach out to a staffmember so we can address it and prevent it from be-coming an issue. We all have an open door and an openear!
