If it would be up to us, Els Dewaele would defi nitely win the Belgian ‘Woman of the year Award’. This mother of 2 little rascals, runs our favourite soup & sandwich bar in Ghent, Ventura. Even though she gets up at 5 am every day to get her orders ready, she manages to always look eff ortless chique. We asked for some advice and her favourite spots in our be-loved Ghent.

You might know Sofi e Palm-ers from her role in ‘De He-laasheid Der Dingen’ but she has been working on a lot more! Spending more time on than off stage for companies such as De Koe, Skagen, Het Paleis and her own creations. In 2015 you can see her all over Flanders in three diff er-ent plays and in ‘The peculiar case of Rebecca Rolfe, also known as Pocahontas’, a mu-sical narrative she made with Michiel Van Cleuvenbergen. She calls Antwerp her home-base, where does this busy bee relax?

This multi-talented lady has achieved a lot at 22 years of age. The Belgian model/actress/author/artist, Lize Feryn, is naturally electri-fying. When we asked her to design a print as part of a sweater

NOW.collaboration, she seized the opportunity with both hands. Here’s someone you won’t easily forget, a Q&A with Lize Feryn.

FAVOURITES

FAV. RESTAURANT? Yami Sushi in PragueWHAT SONG MAKES YOU DANCE INSTANTLY? Uptown Funk of Mark Ronson & Bruno MarsFAV. MUSEUM? Museum M LeuvenBEST READ? Een schitterend gebrek of Arthur JapinMOST BEAUTIFUL WALK? I love Ghent by night, a city can look so completely different at night.BEST LIVE CONCERT? James ArthurIDEAL MAN? Johnny Depp (he’s tal-ented & has got the looks)MOST INSPIRING WOMAN? My mom, because she’s always positive thinking, creative, caring and sweet.

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT THE IDEA BEHIND THIS COLLABORATION? WHY JULIA JUNE? WHY THESE DRAWINGS?When I heard about Julia June for the first time about 2 years ago, I was completely blown away by their aesthet-ics. When I saw their collections, they instantly cheered me up. ‘These are clothes I want to wear’, was what I thought. When they asked me to do this collaboration about a year after, I didn’t hesitate for a second. Of course I was down to do this! But designing two prints, how does one get started

YOU ALREADY HAD A CAREER AS A MODEL, WHY ARE YOU FOCUSSING MORE ON ACTING NOW?That’s right! Modelling is fun once in a while. I’m very happy I was able to live and work in cities like Milan and New York, but acting is my passion. It’s what I’ve always lived for, although I’m only admitting this to myself for a few years now. When a child dreams of being an ac-tress when she grows up, people laugh and think ‘let her dream, she’ll realize soon enough.’ But if you really com-mit to something and you’re willing to give everything up

‘WHILE ACTING I’M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR AUTHENTICITY,

RECOGNITION. WHEN I DRAW IT’S

ALL ABOUT FRAGILITY AND FINE IMPERFEC-

TIONS’

on that? I knew it had to be fun, new, original and stylish but above all with an ironic refer-ence, hence the duality of the brand’s aesthet-ics. Edgy, feminine, naughty & romantic. The “flies-sweater” wouldn’t be the same without the two mating bluebottles on the sleeve and the “crowd-sweater” is only fun if you start looking for the little scenes that are happening between the individual guys and tick off the checklist on the sleeve.

YOU’RE A CREATIVE ALL-ROUNDER. WHERE DO YOU DRAW ARTISTIC SATIS-FACTION FROM?I love it when I can surprise people or touch them emotion-ally. It’s more than just entertaining. In acting I’m always looking for authenticity, recognition. When I draw it’s all about fragility or fine imperfection.I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to make a living out of the things I love doing most and being appreciated for it! It’s amazing, isn’t it?

to get there, you will succeed. Off course a lit-tle portion of luck always comes in handy!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, TELL US SOME-THING ABOUT YOUR NEW PROJECT ‘EMPEROR’?‘Emperor’ is an American-Belgian production about Charles V with Adrien Brody and So-phie Cookson playing the leads. I had the op-portunity to play a pretty decent role myself. At the start of the movie I had to be a nun and later on I became a prostitute. Nice evolution, don’t you think? We shot most of the movie in Prague. I’m very eager to see what the movie

will look like, because the scenario changed quite a bit during the filming process. There’ll be another 6 days of shooting in June and if I’m correct it should be in theatres in 2016. That is, in the movie industry you’re only sure of something when it already happened. ;)

Love, Lize.

TELL US A STORY.

RIO DE JANEIROFor our AW 15/16 collection we found in-spiration in Brazil. Earth tones mixed with tropical leaves converge in a beautiful ab-stract print with a Julia June touch. Belgian artist Nicole Twister has been living in Rio for 2 years, studying at an Acrobatics School and learning Japanese in her spare time. These pictures reveal the beautiful background to her daily experiences.
