Silsden is home to a beautiful new salon, Beehive. A partnership between two local professionals in the world of hair and beauty is creating waves with a welcoming and relaxing salon set in the heart of Silsden’s busy main street.

Katherine trained in hairdressing at Craven College, following this with six years in a salon at Crosshills, where she did extra training in specialist areas such as Racoon Hair Extensions - one of the many unique services offered at Beehive. Katherine always wanted her own salon, and through a friend heard, about a fl orist shop in Silsden soon to be vacant. Following a visit she realised it would be the perfect location for her own salon, even better there was enough space to offer beauty treatments too, and keeping everything under one roof would mean a perfectly relaxing, seamless service for her clients. Again through word of mouth, Linzi an experienced beautician, heard about the opportunity and called Katherine to have a chat over a coffee and see if they liked each other! Luckily they did and the potential for the two businesses to work

together was obvious from that initial meeting. It took fi ve weeks to transform the former fl orist into the beautiful salon Beehive is today and Katherine decided on the name Beehive because it is such an iconic hairstyle, and this salon is building a strong reputation of its own. Especially as Katherine is an expert in all the latest hair trends such as hair extensions and use of The ‘O’ Rollers, a brilliant, instant way to give any hairstyle the current trend in big, full and luscious styles favoured by many of today’s celebrities, particularly Cheryl Cole.

Linzi studied sports and holistic treatments at Craven College as she initially wanted to be a physiotherapist. Linzi secured a job in a local salon as a sports therapist, but when the salon needed a beauty therapist, she decided to train at Bradford College on day release and loved it so much that she changed her career path completely. That was ten years ago, and following a position in a salon in Guiseley, running a salon within a gym and then working as a self employed beautician for a salon in Crosshills, Linzi knew it was

time to make the move to her own beauty venture, so Lotus Beauty at Beehive was created. Specialised treatments on offer at Lotus are monthly Cologenics and Anti Aging Clinics, Skin Rejuvenation and None Surgical Treatments, plus IPL Hair Removal Clinics. Linzi is specialising in the use of Dermalogica products which means that she can offer prescriptive facials, each tailor made for the particular skin type of each client. Prescriptive facials can produce amazing results with problem skins and are renowned for their anti-aging results.

Yes, Beehive and Lotus at Beehive is a true fi nd and once the word spreads, this salon will be running a waiting list. Beehive is a professional salon where you are made to feel comfortable and welcome, and you will fi nd a hair and beauty treatment menu like no other in the area. Always wanted that celebrity polished look? Book yourself into Beehive and make sure you book your second appointment before you leave as it may be more diffi cult to get in the next time!

O ver the years, local family law specialist Juliette Kinsey of

Kinsey & Co Solicitors in Baildon has witnessed the devastating effects the trauma of relationship breakdown can have on the health and wellbeing of her clients. She believes that the impact of the breakdown of a relationship can be far-reaching and should not be underestimated. As an accredited Resolution family law specialist, Juliette Kinsey believes that if separating couples try to take the fi ve following steps, they can help reduce the impact of their separation on each other, their children and their family and friends. Whilst acknowledging that these steps will not alleviate every diffi culty, Juliette does believe that much of the distress and anxiety that arises can be reduced.

1. Maintaining communication:

It is vitally important that separating couples maintain a dialogue. Aggressive and unpleasant communication between couples only serves to close down the opportunity to resolve matters between themselves sensibly and sensitively.

Couples who maintain a constructive dialogue and resist the temptation to become personal and embittered, undoubtedly resolve their issues more quickly and sensitively than those who adopt a confrontational approach. Equally, the way a separating couple communicate with each other will have a long term impact on their ability to provide joint support for their children.

2. Telling the children:

The way separating couples break the news to their children, that they are going to live apart, is very important in helping a child come to terms with the new family structure. Ideally, both parents should tell their children that the relationship has broken down and emphasise to the children that they are not to blame. Many children perceive that their parents have separated because they have been naughty or not worked hard at school and these misunderstandings can cause tremendous distress to children needlessly.

3. Dealing with Financial matters:

Maintaining fi nancial stability during the breakdown of a relationship is vital. Such stability emotionally assists both parties in reaching agreement regarding fi nances and equally helps to ensure that both parties’ credit histories remain unaffected and bad debts do not accrue needlessly. If accounts and mortgages are in joint names, both parties will need to work together if

mortgage providers and banks are to action their wishes.

4. Seeking specialist family law advice:

Seeking sound, sensible legal advice is a must. Choose your solicitor carefully. Ensure that your solicitor is a family law specialist and therefore able to advise you on all aspects of your relationship breakdown. Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) is an organisation made up of family lawyers who undertake to deal with family matters in a constructive and sensible way.

Taking specialist family law advice should not be interpreted as an aggressive move but instead a sensible step towards resolving matters practically and constructively.

5. Taking time to heal:

It is often said that bereavement, divorce and moving home can be the three most stressful events in a person’s life. A relationship breakdown can embody all three. For the majority of people, divorce and separation in itself is a grieving process for the breakdown of a relationship and can indeed involve the sale of a property or the purchase of a new one. Give yourself time to adapt to your new circumstances and allow yourself to grieve. Decisions taken when you are not ready can have a detrimental effect on your long term future. You need to be confi dent and sure of your own wishes before taking any major decisions.

If you are separating from your partner or spouse and wish to seek further advice on your position and how best to take matters forward please contact Juliette Kinsey of Kinsey & Co Solicitors in Baildon on 01274 589900 to make an appointment to see her.

BINGLEY SHOW HISTORY

Nestling in the Aire Valley, surrounded and sheltered by the hills of the Yorkshire Pennines, Bingley was once a small market town surrounded by fertile agricultural land. This is how it was in 1862 when the local farmers got together and held a ploughing

competition - and from these humble beginnings developed one of the finest and largest one day agricultural shows in the North of England.

As Bingley has changed from market town to mill town and, more recently to a satellite town to Leeds and Bradford, so the show has changed.

In its early days it was held for the benefit of the farming community and is believed to have been held mid week to dissuade non farmers from attending. Then, as the appeal of the show grew domestic pets and flowers joined traditional farm animals and vegetable produce, and the show became attractive to the whole community. It was still held mid week but as the show fell on the traditional summer Bingley holiday it attracted good crowds. Nowadays holidays tend to be taken any time in the summer months so the show was moved to a Sunday about ten years ago, making the show more convenient for the whole family.

Last year, an old statute was unearthed by a private individual dating back to the middle of the 19th century, about the time of the first Bingley show, that forbids the closing of a Park on a Sunday, this put a big threat upon the holding of last year’s show. Fortunately we were allowed to go ahead as we were too far advanced in the planning to change the day from a Sunday.

Discussions took place last year and it was decided that moving to the weekend from a Wednesday had been a success, with increased numbers through the gates, so we must now hold the event on Saturday. Next decision which Saturday? Eventually the 23rd of July was chosen as this was the nearest date to the previous years schedules and did not clash with other major events in the area.

Whenever there is change there is a little apprehension, but more shows are held on a Saturday than any other day, and previous changes have not affected the popularity of this grand event. In the not too distant past, the show lost 2 years through Foot and Mouth and another over disputed access when the show was to be held on Wagon Lane. After each set back the show has bounced back and flourished once more.

Nowadays, the show is geared for the whole family, for young and old alike, but has remained true to its agricultural and horticultural heritage. The cattle, sheep, goats, poultry and vegetables will all be there in abundance. In addition, there will be the pets - cats, dogs, pigeons, rabbits, cavies, and mice.

Flowers and plants will complement the vegetables in the horticulture marquee, and in the handicraft marquee, new digital photography will be alongside the old traditions of jam making and baking.Whatever your age, whatever your fancy there is something for you at this year’s show. For the kids there are the fun fair attractions - the big slides the roundabouts - and the Blackpool donkeys will be back for kids to ride bringing the seaside feeling to Bingley. Then there is the return of Titan the Robot again, this is now a firm favourite of adults and kids and will delight and no doubt frighten, but a spectacle not to be missed.

With clowns for the little ones and a stunt motorbike team there is something for all ages. For music lovers The Bradford City Brass Band will be playing in Bottom Meadow, and for the youngsters Pulse Radio will be blasting out their usual pop music, in the top part of the park away from the animals.

With over 100 stands, loads of food outlets, and ice cream aplenty and of course more than one watering hole there is everything one needs for a great day out.

N

Ticket prices have been held for another year and are £8 for an adult, £5 for children and seniors with a family ticket at £22.

Again this year there are discounts of £2 if you purchase your ticket before the day and £4 off the family ticket.

Tickets outlets before the day have vastly increased and are shown on the web site www.bingleyshow.co.uk

FLY PAST FOR BINGLEY SHOW

Just three months after the Royal Wedding fly past, Bingley Show has its very

own aerial spectacle. At 14.35 the very same Lancaster bomber that delighted the crowds in the Mall, as it flew over Buckingham Palace, will give the show a real buzz as it flies low over the show ground. Don’t miss it, as it is one of only two Lancaster bombers that are now flying, and the other one is in Canada.

PA474, as this great bird is known, was built in 1945 in Chester but before she was ready to go into battle the Second World War came to an end. The plane was then used for Photographic Reconnaissance; so don’t be surprised as you look up into the skies on the 23rd July at this magnificent machine if out of a rear turret there is a sudden flash. Snap! You’ve been photographed, another record for the ministry of defence!

This Lancaster has always courted fame and has starred in two movies, Operation Crossbow and The Guns of Navarone. So after an illustrious 66 year career this flying battleship will at last visit the magnificent hamlet of Bingley. So make sure you are there to give this old timer a great Bingley Welcome.

AFTER AN ABSENCE OF TWO YEARS, SHOW JUMPING MAKES A WELCOME RETURN TO THE BINGLEY SHOW. In affiliation with BSAJ we will be having two sessions of show jumping in the main ring, starting from 8.30am with the Senior New Comers kindly sponsored by Mill Field Stud, followed by the Horse and Hound Fox Hunter Class sponsored by Ultimate Office Solutions Ltd.

Once again the Shire horses will be showing in the main ring at lunchtime. Then starting at 3.30pm the OHS Accumulator kindly sponsored by OHS Ltd; this is a speed class and a spectator favourite. The commentator will keep the crowd informed and the riders have the option to finish on a joker fence to gain extra points.

The final class this year will be the West Riding Motor Group 1.30pm Open which will hopefully attract some well known names in the world of show jumping. So come along, enjoy the spectacle and hopefully see some potential Olympic show jumpers!

SHIRES

The largest animals at the show this year will be Shire Horses, standing at over six foot at the shoulder. Magnificent beasts, these fine horses are always popular wherever they go. There can be no finer sight than dray horses pulling the beer barrels from the brewery to the pubs. Unfortunately like steam engines and tall ships, these are things from the past and are therefore only occasionally seen today.

The Shire horse is now almost exclusively a pet. Some pet! They weigh almost as much as a family car and cost about the same to keep, £ 80 a week and regularly need new shoes at £60 a time. They live for 25 to 30 years and, for a large animal, are affectionate and docile, though stallions can be a bit of a handful.

Shires did not compete at Bingley Show for a few years but in 2009 they were reintroduced, and proved a great success. These fine large animals and their young foals graced the main ring for a good hour, and will do so again in 2011 at about lunch time. Check the time in the list of main ring events.

TITAN

“Back again! I told you so.”

“Every year fans of the show complain they haven’t seen me. How come? I’m eight foot tall and chase around the top part of the Park close to the flower beds. That’s where you’ll catch me (or I’ll catch you). I never go down to the Bottom Meadow because I’m frightened of mice, and I prefer to scare people than upset all those dumb animals. So all you scardy cats can hide with the animals, but the brave ones can check me out at in the top Park.

“I’m a TV star now. Guess some of you have seen me with Suzy Perry on the Gadget Show or in the Big Brother House. On your TV screen is one thing, but face to face is something else altogether.”

“Remember you can run but you cannot hide. “

BINGLEY SHOW 2011

THE HISTORICAL CAR SECTION.

Always a popular attraction at the show and boys will be boys and boys like their toys! It is as boys that most car enthusiasts start. Alan McCormick, section leader, says he first got the bug at the age of ten when he would run to the gate to watch the cars go by. His first car, a 1931 Standard 9, was bought for £30. Now a vintage man himself, he can still be found tinkering in his garage on his 1952 MG saloon.

Come and look at the old cars, and wonder at how the manufacturers had different ideas on what the customer wanted. This section will be situated in the bottom meadow and this year there will be a procession of historical cars in the afternoon driving into the main ring.

Come down and speak to the owners. They like talking about their cars almost as much as showing them and they will be pleased to chat about the cars and the social side of the old car world.

Out Now:Hangover- Part 2 (15)

This disappointing sequel to the 2009 hit comedy already had its work cut out to make its central idea a believable one, could this really happen again? Mind you that's not the biggest problem here, that would be the script which is extremely hit and miss and nowhere near as consistently funny as before. Yes there are laughs but many of them are predictable and the shock factor and consequently the consistent hilarity are halted. It starts brilliantly but as soon as the mad night is looked at, itgrows thin and by the end wears out its welcome and its concept. Not awful just not good, shame.

X-Men: First Class (12A)

A tremendous prequel in which the mutants and their abilities are actually the dressing on what is a character driven piece of cinema. The plot is well communicated and the ideas of war and injustice make for a perfect background to the X-Men comic book ideals. Fassbender excels as Erik (Magneto) and James McAvoy is brilliant as his opposite, Charles (Professor X). Watching how the beginnings came about and watching the fiery action, tender emotion and thrilling special effects only validates this as 2011's blockbuster to beat! Also look out for a truly hilarious cameo mid-film.

Kung Fu Panda 2 3D (PG)

Po (Jack Black) returns to save Kung Fu from the evil Lord Shen in a hugely successful and equally entertaining sequel to the 2008 original. The animation is gorgeously rendered with a loving embrace of Chinese literature and Manga styled Asian animation. This film throws more emotion into the plot as well as the comedy still present from last time. There are tonnes of characters to watch but none better than the villain of the piece, who Gary Oldman voices superbly. True the first 10-15 minutes are slow but following that the plot grows grand and the battles inspired, as well as some nice 3D. A sequel which really is an equal and perfect family fun, Kapow!

Bridesmaids (15)- 22nd June

Already being called the comedy of 2011, this all female escapade promises, rude, crude and nonstop laughs, as a group of bridesmaids meet and organise pre-wedding celebrations.

Transformers: The Dark of the Moon 3D (12A)- 29 th June

The transforming robots return in Michael Bay's action packed franchise, this time earth is thrown into peril once more as a weapon (kept secret since the moon landings) could fall into the wrong hands. Shia LaBeouf returns alongside John Malkovich and Frances McDormand

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 2 3D (12A)- 15 th July

Concluding chapter to the literary and now movie phenomenon, as Harry Hermionie and Ron's adventures reach the end namely in the final conflict with the evil Lord Voldermoort. Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, AlanRickman and many more in this years most anticipated film.

Cars 2 3D (U)- 22 nd July

Awaited animated sequel from Pixar, which takes things to an international racing stage but Lightening McQueen (Owen Wilson) and friends become drawn into an espionage caper alongside infamous spy Finn McMissile (Michael Caine).

Larry Crowne (12A)

Tom Hanks directs and stars in this comedy/drama opposite Julia Roberts as the likeable Larry who goes back to school to restart his life, in the process falling in love with a teacher.

“There are many other reasons why you might want to call Armour Glaze, apart from having steamed up windows.” says Nick. “You might be bored with your leaded windows and want more light, or you might want to freshen up your front door. Just like the windows, we can change the door panel at a fraction of the cost of a new door.”

Testimonials

A customer of Armour Glaze, Ann from Bingley, tells us about her experience. “I called two reputable companies to look at the misted windows in my conservatory, both said the problem could not be fi xed

and both recommended a new conservatory. After hearing about Armour Glaze, I asked them to take a look. Thank goodness I did, my conservatory now looks as good as new and the cost was over £5,000 cheaper than the nearest quote! I was very happy with their work and thought they were wonderful.”

Sue from Gilstead agreed. “I was so happy with the way Armour Glaze transformed my conservatory and bedroom windows that I recommended them to a friend who was also very happy with their work.”

Baildon Timber

aildon Timber can claim to be part of a Baildon heritage dating back a thousand years. The popular and successful timber merchants were established in 1987 by Frank Baildon, who, with other members

of the Baildon family, has traced the family tree back to 1066! The business is now run by his son Paul, who joined the business in 1989.

Baildon Timber believe that their success is due to the high level of customer service offered together with their huge stock of quality timber products and the swift, free delivery service.

Paul is keen to stress that although the business is primarily structured to cater for joiners and building tradesmen, a large proportion of their sales are from the domestic user. Paul says: “the recent trend for exterior decking has meant that we have sold a lot of it in the last few years. Traditional items such as stress graded structural timbers, skirting boards, fl oorboards and mouldings are still very popular. We can also cut plywood and MDF sheets in our workshop.”

Testament to the success of this local family run business is the fact that they had to move to much larger premises fi ve years ago and the foundations for further business progression were well and truly laid.

It is worth visiting such a professional timber merchant when considering fencing, decking, railway sleeper, treated timber and mouldings, as a professional such as Baildon Timber understands your needs and the different types of materials required to achieve the look you want.

Baildon Timber invites anyone looking for timber products to phone them or better still, visit them at their premises in Baildon. You will not be disappointed with their excellent customer service.

ur resident property expert and qualifi ed surveyor, Michael Foster of Pure Property Care launches a series of articles for homeowners looking at various aspects of property care, repair and renovation. In this edition’s article,

Michael looks at the subject of cellar conversion.

With the cost of moving house ever increasing and the slump in the housing market set to continue, there has been a big increase in the number of homeowners looking to improve and adapt their properties to better suit the needs of their growing families rather than embark on a long and often fruitless mission to sell their property at what can be a disappointing fi nal sale price.

There are 3 options available to homeowners looking to create extra living space. Loft conversion, external extension or cellar/basement conversion.

Creating the required safe access to a loft conversion can greatly reduce valuable bedroom space, defeating the object of the exercise to increase living space and also negatively impacting on the future saleability of your property.

Extensions can remove useful garden space and access, cause extensive disruption in your home during the construction phase and create excessive builders dirt that will permeate your property throughout the project. Homeowners also often fi nd it diffi cult and costly to obtain planning permission for these projects.

Cellars and basements offer a superb opportunity to add not just tailor-made living space to your property but also increase the value and future saleability of your home without compromising any or your current space. As staircases and external walls are already present, conversions can be relatively quick, cost effective and with minimum disruption to you and your family.

Cellar and basement conversion is a specialist subject and there are a number of crucial factors that must be considered when planning a successful conversion.

1. A HIGH QUALITY, ROBUST DAMP & WATERPROOFING SYSTEM

2. A HIGH LEVEL OF INTEGRAL INSULATION3. PRESENCE OF NATURAL DAYLIGHT4. PRESENCE OF NATURAL VENTILLATION5. FIRE SAFETY6. SAFE ACCESS/EGRESS

I cannot stress enough the importance of consulting with a specialist if you are considering a cellar conversion both from a safety and a fi nancial point of view. Their expert knowledge and advice will ensure the fi nished result is a safe, warm, well lit, well ventilated, fully waterproofed cellar conversion individually designed to meet the needs of your family and potentially adding thousands on to the value of your property and increasing its saleability in the future.

My NPT at  Eccleshill want to work as closely as possible with local residents, listen to their concerns and deal with the issues raised. One way of achieving this is to invite local community members to my Neighbourhood Policing Team on joint Police/

community patrols to show them the work officers do and get their perspective on safety issues in their local area.

If you are interested in joining officers on patrol and seeing first hand some of the local problems that staff face then please contact myself on Bradford 376168.  I will speak to you personally and arrange for you to patrol with staff. Should you not be able to go out on patrol but would like a local officer to visit you at home and get an update as to the work we are doing and at the same time they can listen to your problems then please ring the same number. There continues to be a percentage of burglaries which could have been prevented by some very simple preventative measures. This includes not leaving doors and windows open when out of the house. It only takes a few seconds for someone to reach through an open window or walk into your house via an unlocked door, yet the devastating effect having your home entered and property stolen can last for some considerable time. Therefore please remember to lock all doors and widows when out of the house or going to bed. During the day be aware which doors and windows are open. At this time of year be particularly mindful of doors/windows in conservatories and windows near any flat roofs you may have.  A few seconds taking these simple precautions can make your home much more secure and prevent you being a victim of crime. Following the success of the open day last year at Eccleshill Police station we will be

opening the doors of the station again on Saturday 23rd July. The event will begin at 11am and finish at 3pm. There will be guided tours of the station and talks from Bradford Drugs Team and Public Order Training. This is in addition to numerous other attractions from the police and our partner agencies. Best of all it is all free, so please come on join us. Inspector Peter Tuff

oor quality uPVC door locks are putting homes at risk. Police are advising homeowners to get their uPVC door locks checked and replaced with bump and snap secure Euro Cylinder locks.

This follows an increase in break-ins where vulnerable locks have been forced. Burglars use a simple tool to smash the lock in a technique well known among criminals.One-in-four burglaries in West Yorkshire involve the vulnerable Euro Profile locks, which are widely used in uPVC doors, particularly older ones.

Neil Goldup, Chief Executive of CASAC (Community Action and Support Against Crime), said: “It’s incredibly easy for criminals to gain entry once they realise what type of lock is in the door.“Here at CASAC we offer a free service across West Yorkshire to check a property and we are already fitting high security cylinder locks that will meet new security standards that will be enforced shortly.

CASAC is an established West Yorkshire social enterprise that works with local people, the Police and other statutory agencies to improve community safety and is dedicated to reducing crime and the fear of crime. All CASAC Security Engineers carry Police identification. In one hotspot area, burglary has effectively been eradicated due to a targeted approach between CASAC and West Yorkshire Police.

“CASAC not only make sure that your locks are secure and can check all aspects of home security. From Alarms and Garages, to Sheds and Fencing - CASAC will increase security and make you feel safe in your home.”

hriving local economy is at the heart of every successful community. That was the thinking behind the creation of

Action for Business Limited (ABL) in 1992. A community-led organisation, its aim is a simple one – making Manningham a place to be proud of. ABL contributes to economic development; delivering and supporting initiatives that encourage social regeneration and community cohesion.

ABL is based in Carlisle Business Centre (CBC) which it owns and operates. Formerly a textile mill, this Grade 2 listed building is a local landmark; a shining example of everything that’s great about Manningham’s past, present and future.

And that shine has just added a little more polish with the completion of an ambitious £500,000 project that has, quite literally, raised the roof . The money has been spent on a top to bottom refurbishment of their conference facility. The conference hall’s suspended ceiling has been removed to reveal the building’s apex roof with windows now fl ooding the room with natural light. When darker conditions are required for presentations, electronically operated roller blinds shut out the daylight. Improved AV equipment has been installed and -- for evening events -- there’s feature lighting. The new look main hall will seat up to 200 people, but the space can be split for smaller events. There’s also a new dedicated conference centre entrance welcoming visitors directly from the car park.

“It was clear that we needed to invest

to meet the increasingly sophisticated requirements of conference organisers and to allow greater fl exibility for community use,” says ABL’s Chief Executive, Jenny Pupius. “Our newly refurbished conference centre must be one of the best facilities in Bradford. It’s a fi rst rate venue. As well as targeting businesses, we’re keen to promote our excellent facilities for a wide range of daytime, evening and weekend events.”

But ABL is about much more than conferences – it’s a business centre too. CBC provides affordable workspace and excellent facilities for meetings and a whole host of other activities. The Centre is currently occupied by over 50 small businesses, community organisations, statutory bodies and charities.

And it plays an important role in the community. Through a whole host of programmes, such as the Manningham Healthy Living Initiative, ABL provides accessible education, advice and personal development for local people. It nurtures skills, builds confi dence and gives direction to enable them to help themselves – and their families.

ABL Chief Executive, Jenny Pupius adds: “Carlisle Business Centre is increasingly becoming a fi rst port of call for small businesses in Bradford seeking affordable workspace. That’s great news for ABL and the local community, which enjoys the spin-off benefi ts of having a successful organisation in its midst,”.

BY KEIGHLEY COUGARS

COUGARS ON THE UP!!!!

n the fi eld the Cougar train has slowed a little over the past three weeks, with very narrow losses to Whitehaven, Rochdale and London Scholars. In all of the past three fi xtures the Cougars have led with ten minutes remaining only to concede a try in the dying

stages and come away with a narrow loss.

Over the last week Cougars have signed two of Leeds Rhinos future stars on an initial month’s loan with a view to extending the loan period should both parties feel it’s appropriate. George Elliott is a wing/centre who has already made his fi rst team debut for the Rhinos this season and he brings some genuine speed to the edges. Jake Normington is a strong running centre, who brings some power and aggression the Cougars.

As the Cougars are strengthening on the fi eld, off the fi eld they are making huge strides in taking the club to the next level. Cougars have agreed to form a partnership with UAK (Universities Academy Keighley). The partnership will allow the Cougars to use the school’s state of the art facilities, which head coach Jason Demetriou says will allow each player to obtain their maximum level of performance and will generate at least 30% individual and team improvement.

Away from the playing side the Cougars are very close to securing premises in the Airedale shopping centre. Such an acquisition, will allow the Cougars to set up offi ces and a club shop in the heart of Keighley. New commercial manager Rob Weir is delighted with the infl uence a potential move into the town centre could have on the Cougar brand and stated: “Having a base in the heart of the town gives us maximum exposure and will help us generate business and spectator interest on a daily basis.” This exciting news comes off the back of the Cougars landing sponsorship deals with several household names, such Armour Glass which has sponsored the hospitality suite - which is now named the Armour Glass Suite. Other household companies that have jumped on the Cougar Train are Ford, GMB, and Premier Inn. Rob Weir commented: “Since coming on board as Commercial Manager I have been blown away and excited by the commercial opportunities that are becoming available, and feel that the Cougar brand has huge potential to grow, as well as offering excellent business opportunities to its sponsors.”A fact that has been supported with the acquisition of such major brand names.

Back on the fi eld the Cougars have been busy trying to enhance the

Match Day experience. The next two home games will see a Dance extravaganza come to Cougar Park, with around 400 performers from dance schools all over the surrounding areas set to perform pre match and half time entertainment. Head of Dance at Cougar Park, Jo Riddell, said: “The enthusiasm and eagerness from dance schools in the area to come and perform on match day has been a real positive and I am looking forward to what will be an excellent show.” Also on July 10th the Cougars will host a pre match game between the Asian all stars rugby league team versus the Political Animals rugby league team, which is sure to excite the fans. Add to this the free Kids Club, face painter, ice cream van and the Dance Extravaganza, Cougar Park is becoming a day out for the whole family to enjoy.

Cougars are also offering two summer camps on the 2nd,3rd, and 4th of August, and 16th, 17th, and 18th of August. If Cougars can get 60 kids to sign up for each camp, it will only cost £20, which is excellent value for a three day camp. The action packed camps wil go on from 10am to 3pm. There will be full days of Rugby league and other sports based coaching, games and activities for eight to 16 year olds to enjoy. The camp will have visits from Jason Demetriou, the current Cougars coach and former super league star, as well as visits from some of Super League’s biggest stars. For more info on the camp, call 01535 606044.

Keighley Cougars are on the up, in more ways than one and are making massive strides in reaching out to the wider community. So jump on board the Cougar Train and get down to Cougar Park for a great day out for the whole family.
