Rising up as an indomitable peak at the gateway between Spain and the African coast, Gibraltar is a unique destination with a life that goes beyond its surface. Gibraltar is a phenomenally easy place to get by in - they accept the Pound, everyone speaks English, and with the residents being proudly British, it can almost feel like an usually warm UK (It’s up to you whether that’s a good thing). It’s in the Mediterranean, and only a stone’s throw from Northern Africa - basically, it’s very hot, making it a perfect place for sailing, swimming or sitting around on the beach. And it’s not too much hassle to make your way into Spain if you fancy a change of scene. Did we mention there’s monkeys? Barbary macaques populate the island, and happily live alongside the human residents. They’re very cute. Gibralta /// 12 | THE VAULT THE VAULT | 13 \\\

You don’t need to pay £600 to fly to Orlando, Florida to swim with dolphins – Cardigan Bay in Pembrokeshire is a well known bottlenosed dolphin hang out.Home to almost 200miles of national park coastline, rugged cliffs and unspoilt beaches, Pembrokeshire is basically abroad. Whitesands, in particular, is a beach that could rival the best in the rest of Europe.

The capital of Serbia, Belgrade is becoming known as one of Europe’s most energetic and hedonistic cities. Cheap to get to, cheap to stay in and cheap to drink in, it’s a perfect place for students. There’s always the city’s famous cafe culture and the beautiful Belgrade Fortress (now a public park) to take in, and it’s only an hour’s drive from the city of Novi Sad, home of Exit Festival.

It’s absurdly cheap to stay there, and it’s beginning to become known for its nightlife - so get there before everyone and their mother starts going and claim the bragging rights.

Hamburg’s nightlife is buzzing. The famous Reepersbahn is filled with techno clubs, but is a total tourist trap. Stick to the trendy Wintershude area for bar-hopping and friendly locals.

Dorset is such a wonderful area to visit, quite simply because there’s so much to see and do.The 200 mile Jurassic Coast is one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in all of England with its clear turquoise waters, and naturally formed rock statues (particularly Lulworth Cove). It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage site and so well looked after it’s an offense to take pebbles from the beach.

You are never too old for theme parks; NEVER. Alton Towes is clearly the best in the UK with top rides including Oblivion, Nemesis, Rita and Air.

Edinburgh isn’t the cheapest city, but if you’re a culture vulture and you and your friends are looking for somewhere that’s going to offer a great time whether it’s day, evening, or early hours of the morning, it’s a pretty fail-safe option for an amazing mini break.Sip a latte on the Royal Mile, check out the ancient castle, or visit the Royal Botanic Gardens or Edinburgh zoo. They also have one of the coolest cathedrals in the UK: St. Giles. Of course, one of the main attractions of Edinburgh in the summer is its world famous Festival, and its little sister, the Edinburgh Fringe. Offering a whole smorgasboard of comedy, art, lit erary, music and theatre events. The Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe Festival are a must. But get in early to book accommodation for these dates, as it will fill up fast. erary, music and theatre events.

Pembrokshire, Wales. Dorset, England.

Belgrade, Serbia.

Hamburg, Germany. Bucharest, Romania. Alton Towers, England.

Edinburgh, Scotland.

Cheap to get to. Cheap to stay in.

It’s the perfect place for a

student break.

So that’s it then, the top destinations for students. Hopefully that helped inspire some great -legal- ideas for the summer break. Now just remember, don’t forget your passport!
