Henbury School provides a first-class education, acclaimed by parents, Ofsted and the local community alike. We are committed to supporting our students to achieve excellence in all aspects of school life. Our curriculum is rigorous, designed to challenge and inspire students of all interests and abilities. Top quality teaching, outstanding facilities and extra-curricular opportunities ensure that all our young people are able to perform at their very best.

Students at Henbury have the opportunity to achieve excellence in all avenues of school life: academic; sporting; creativity; performance and leadership. As one of the most improved schools in the country, Henbury has received national recognition for its students’ achievements and we regularly receive visitors from other schools and universities to learn from what is in place at the school.

Teachers at Henbury have high expectations, and students are encouraged to be ambitious. challenging targets are set for every student, and often exceeded, with a high percentage gaining A/A* grades at GcSe.

Students and staff together recognise and celebrate excellence with enthusiasm, taking pleasure from all that is accomplished at Henbury, whether in terms of academic prowess or personal achievement.

Our curriculum is designed around our three core values: creativity, respect and Ambition. We challenge ourselves to engage students of all interests, abilities and aspirations, with a wide range of academic and vocational courses. Students at Henbury are inspired by all that is offered.

Teachers at Henbury ensure that students are fully engaged in their learning, by teaching lessons which promote students’ independent learning and encourage students to think creatively and work co-operatively. The school maximises the connections we have with our local universities, businesses and professionals, to give students a real insight into how their learning relates to the wider world, and develop their future ambitions.

We have strong links with all local post-16 providers; students at Henbury can choose from an excellent range of school-based sixth forms and further education colleges. Henbury students have a right to a place at north bristol Post-16 centre, based at cotham and redland Green, if they so wish. All our students go on to further education and training, with a high percentage carrying on to university.

Relationships built on

Students learn best when they feel safe, happy and valued. respect underpins all relationships at Henbury School: respect for the individual, and of every child’s right to learn, achieve and develop to his or her potential.

Henbury has extremely high expectations of all our staff and students. There is a clear and consistent structure of rewards and sanctions to guide students in being able to perform at their best. Outstanding support and encouragement is offered for all children through the school’s house system, and the extensive support structures in place.

Students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills while at school, through a range of positions of responsibility, including House leaders, Peer Mentors and Prefects. Students’ support of each other is exemplary.

BuildingOPPOrTUnITIeSAt Henbury, we are proud of the host of opportunities that are available to extend students’ engagement in learning. The school is privileged to enjoy attractive modern buildings with outstanding facilities for extra-curricular activities.

Henbury has been recognised nationally for the wealth of educational visits that students are able to enjoy, with domestic and international trips arranged every year. Such visits extend students’ learning experiences in new and exciting environments. Our partnership with Masindi School in Uganda provides a rich cultural exchange for staff and students.

Our ‘lesson 6’ enrichment programme offers all students the chance to enjoy opportunities in a diverse range of activities: sports, performing and visual arts, community work, gardening, engineering and many, many more. All students are required to take at least one after school activity each week.

In sports, students compete at the highest levels: we are proud that we have a number of sports teams and elite athletes who are bristol, Avon and South West champions, as well as members of national teams.
