Hemstitched Boudoir Pillow

SUPPLIES One hemstitched white hand towel, 14" x 22" (LT-9918) • 1 yard of 1/8" double-faced satin ribbon • 1/4 yard white batiste for inner pillow • White sewing thread • #70/10 or #80/12 universal machine needle • Bodkin, ribbon threader, or safety pin • Polyfil stuffing EMBROIDERY l. Draw a horizontal line 2-1/2" up above hemstitching on finished end. 2. Draw a vertical line to mark the center of the towel. 3. Using the Antique Bullion Rosebud Alphabet from 2003, monogram the design. CONSTRUCTION 1. For the pillow pocket, measure and mark each side of the towel 6-3/4” from the end opposite the embroidery. 2. Fold along this line, right sides together. Stitch the sides together with a scant 1/4” seam just wide enough to encase the hemmed edges of the towel. 3. Turn the pocket right side out. Fold and stitch 1/4" to the inside along the side edges so the flap lies flat where the pocket is joined. 4. Cut a piece of ribbon 14-1/2" long. Run the ribbon through the hemstitched design; turn the raw ends to the inside at each end and whip in place or tack by machine. 5. Cut the remaining ribbon in half and tie two bows. Tack a bow on the right side at each end of the ribbon. Trim the tails to a pleasing length. 6. Cut two 7-1/2" x 14" rectangles from the batiste. Place the rectangles right sides together. Stitch all sides with a 1/4" seam allowance, leaving an opening at one side for turning. 7. Turn the pillow right side out and fill with polyfil stuffing. Turn the raw edges of the opening to the inside and whip by hand, or stitch the edges together by machine. 8. Insert the pillow into the cover.
