A shared history

HAP and the United Auto Workers have a shared history. Almost 60 years ago, UAW President Walter Reuther sought

an alternative to traditional health insurance for UAW members. The plan he established became HAP. We proudly

continue to carry out his vision by providing high-quality and affordable plans to UAW Trust members.

Retirees and their families choose HAP for comprehensive health care benefits with affordable out-of-pocket costs.

We’re proud to be a UAW-represented nonprofit health plan. Our employees, represented by UAW Local 600 and 1811

in Michigan, are a dedicated team of experts serving fellow union members and their families.

We hope you’ll see HAP is the clear choice for UAW Trust retirees. We strive to be the best health plan provider in

Michigan. We want you to have the best coverage, the best doctors and hospitals and the best customer service – so

you can enjoy the best health possible.

HMO plan basics

All HMO members need to pick a primary care physician. Your PCP coordinates your

care and keeps your medical history updated. Our HMO network gives you access to

thousands of doctors and leading hospitals.

With HAP, you can choose who you like, when you like. Unlike some other HMOs, you

can change your PCP when you want to. Everyone on your plan can select the PCP of

their choice. Your PCP can speak to specialists on your behalf. This way, you’re not

alone. You always have a health care team working together for your care.

Discover the HAP difference. Everything we do is designed to make it easier for you to

stay healthy – from our network of the best doctors and hospitals to the extra benefits

we include in our plans.
