As children head back to school this month, many people are thinking about getting into good routines. You may know someone who has either stopped attending church at some point or has never attended church. This is a great time to encourage them to make church a part

of their “weekly routines.” Many people won’t come to church on their own, so this month invite someone to join you. If you’re feeling really bold, share lunch and conversation about the service with them afterwards.

pencils, markers, notebooks etc. and we will pass them on to Brenda Lambert to give to teachers who have students without supplies. We look forward to another sermon inspired by your ideas entitled “How to End Worry.” Invite a friend, a neighbor, or anyone you run into to join you as we enjoy great music, dynamic preaching, and delicious snacks at the Forest Hills Ridge Campus on Sunday, August 12 at 6:00 PM.

JUST A REMINDER

MEMORIALS AND HONORARIUMSForest Hills UMC receives many donations given in memory or in honor of loved ones. Acknowledgment of Forest Hills’ gratitude is sent to each person who makes a donation. A letter of recognition identifying who gave a donation is also sent to the person or the family of the person who was honored/remembered. Here is a list of all who have been honored and remembered through a donation to FHUMC this past month:

In Memory Of: Wade Carter

River of Life would not be possible without the personal contributions of numerous

volunteers. No contribution should be an afterthought, so we thank the dozens of organizers, supply runners, meal preparers, crafters, musicians, hosts and hostesses, chaperones,

drivers and so many others who gave of their time, talents, and resources to

make this event such a smashing success. Not only does River of Life function as a crucial community outreach minitry, but it allows young people and adults alike to grow in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ by living out His mandate to serve the lost and broken. River of Life is faith expressed through action.

As school begins and new schedules are being formed, make sure to join us for our Youth Worship.

The 9:45 worship service will be hosting a “Sunday School Speed Dating” event on Sunday, August 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ministry Center. During this hour, we will feed you delicious snacks while you have an opportunity to get to know the class members and class focus of our 11:00 Sunday School classes. FINANCIAL REPORT

Forest Hills UMC has moved to a new kind of church record keeping

solution called Realm®. It primarily serves the administrative needs of our staff, but it also offers some exciting

opportunities to support the way you are involved in our church! Not only will this improve work life for our ministry staff, it will make it easier for our church family to connect with each other, keep up with what’s going on, and grow as a connected community of believers. Everyone in our church has a unique profile. Like a church directory, your profile contains everything you want people in our church to know about you. Your profile also enables you to join a small group, RSVP to events, track your giving, update your contact information, change family details, set notification preferences, or replace your photo.

A note about privacy: Your information is YOUR information.

1. You have complete control over who can see your contact and personal information.

2. Contact information is never public or searchable on the Internet. Any information you elect to make visible to your church family is always protected behind a login.

3. Authorized staff will always have access to your profile information.

4. You and certain authorized staff may update your profile information. In some cases, your group leader may update your contact information if you have made it visible to group leaders.

5. For safety reasons, sharing contact and personal information for children under 18 is limited. Parents determine whether or not to display their child’s name in the church directory.

6. Children under 13 may not participate and will not be able to sign in.

If you have a current email address on file with our church, you should have received an email invitation to connect on Realm. If you have not received an invitation, check with our church office to make sure we have your correct email address. We are still in the early stages of bringing this online. So if your profile is incorrect or inaccessible, please let us know by contacting the church office.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILDCome one! Come all! On Thursday, August 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., we are invited to attend the Operation Christmas Child fair at Pine Forest Baptist Church. Refreshments, games and door prizes will be provided. We will also meet a former Romanian orphan who received an OCC shoebox at age 12, was adopted, and has been able to travel back to Romania to share shoeboxes with other orphans there. Call me if you’d like to carpool to the fair or to ask any other questions about OCC! Lynn McMullen 478-320-0496.

The item of the month for August is: School supplies (of course!). Pens, pencils with extra sharpeners and erasers, spiral notebooks, colored pencils, crayons, washable markers, solar calculators, compass and protractor sets will all fit nicely in a shoebox. Add a bar of soap and washcloth, toothbrush, comb or brush, and a WOW item (clothes, toys or sports equipment) and your box will be ready to go for collection week in November!

MISSIONS OFFERINGby Sherie MosesSchool is getting into full swing in Bibb County! As Christians we are aware of our duty to provide for the children of our community and we endeavor to meet this responsibility through our Backpack Ministry, primarily serving the elementary age group. The Mentor’s Project of Bibb County exists to address some of the many needs of our disadvantaged middle and high school youth. This is a dropout prevention program that matches successful, caring adults from the community with at-risk students. These role models provide encouragement and motivation to students who need additional support and assist them in reaching their full academic, social and personal potential.

The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce initiated the Mentor’s Project in 1990 to address the Chamber’s concerns for the success of students

Back packministryby Brenda Lambert

A huge thank you to employees of Navicent Health for awarding the Backpack Ministry a grant for $10,000.We use this money to purchase food at the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.

School is starting and we will begin delivering food to hungry children around the end of August as we give schools time to identify the children and obtain permission forms from their parents. There will be a meeting for all volunteers on Sunday, August 12 at 4:30 in room 125.If you are interested in volunteering, please join us.We ALWAYS need volunteers to hand out bags of food to children on Thursday or Friday afternoon. Time involved is around 1 hour once a month. If you need more information, please call Brenda Lambert at 747-2348. Look forward to seeing all our volunteers and starting the new school year.

in the community and the high dropout rate. This organization is now a separate, nonprofit agency governed by a board of directors. The pilot program began at one high school in Macon. Encouraging stories of mentor/protégée relationships prompted the further expansion of the program to each of the 14 public middle and high schools in our county with over 250 mentors.

June O’Neal, the director, also offers seminars on financial aid, strategies for staying off drugs, and self-esteem building, and help with food and other basic needs for these youth. Community Service projects such as feeding the homeless are a big part of the Mentor’s Project, giving these young people a chance to give back to their community. This valuable organization welcomes you to join their cause and directly support children in our community. No matter how little or big the amount, it will make a difference in the life of a child. Nearly 100% of the protégés who graduate from high school with an active mentor will attend a post-secondary institution and become productive members of the community. If you are interested in taking a more personal interest in the life of a young person, you can contact June O’Neal, director, at 478-765-8624.
