Helmet lawrepeal backin the news
REVIVE MINISTRIES of Cass City recently hosted its first fundraiser ban-
quet at the Cass City United Methodist Church, where volunteers served din-
ner to 130 people and raised $1,500 to help fund the organization’s food
pantry operation.

Motorcycle riders could have theoption of cruising without a helmetin Michigan if some state lawmakershave their way.
The Michigan House last weekapproved its own version of a billthat would repeal Michigan’s helmetlaw. Under the bill, approved by avote of 69 to 39, riders ages 21 andolder would be allowed to leave theirhelmet at home if they meet certaininsurance and experience guidelines. Those requirements include posses-
sion of a valid license to operate amotorcycle for a minimum of 2years, having passed a safety course, and the purchase of at least $20,000of first-party medical benefits cover-age.
Proponents of the measure say rid-ers have the right to decide whetheror not to wear a helmet. Some havealso suggested that Michigan’s hel-met law has turned away tourism
dollars because out-of-state ridersare not willing to spend money onadditional medical insurance cover-age.Opponents say repealing the helmet
law will lead to more traffic deathsand skyrocketing insurance rates foreveryone.
The sheriffs in Tuscola, Huron andSanilac counties all agree theirdepartments will enforce whateverlaw may be passed by legislators.
As seasoned law enforcement offi-cers, they also acknowledgedthey’ve seen their fair share ofmotorcycle accidents and indicatedthey believe wearing a helmet canmake the difference between fataland non-fatal injuries.
“Over the years I’ve handlednumerous motorcycle accidents,(and) no motorcycle accident is agood one,” commented TuscolaCounty Undersheriff LeeTeschendorf. “I can only hope that ifit (helmet law) is repealed, common-sense riders will continue to wearhelmets. It would certainly improve(their) odds.”
Huron County Sheriff Kelly J.Hanson said he’s neither for noragainst the helmet law, but he agreedusing a helmet is a wise choice.
“I’m not a motorcyclist, but I’vebeen to accidents where the helmethas made the difference,” Hansonsaid. “From what I’ve witnessed, Ithink it would be in a person’s bestinterest to remain wearing a helmet. You’re better off wearing a helmetthan not wearing a helmet, and I’veseen that first hand.”
In Sanilac County, Sheriff GarryBiniecki said he’s never been infavor of repealing the helmet law, primarily because helmets are a vitalpiece of safety equipment, much thesame as life jackets on a boat andseatbelts in a motor vehicle.
“When you’ve seen some of thedevastation over the years, even witha helmet, it makes you wonder. Wepass laws requiring you to wear seat-belts. How far do you carry this?”Biniecki added.
“I truly believe this is a safetyissue,” he continued, noting it’s alsoan issue of fairness when it comes tothe burden of higher insurance rateseveryone bears when accidentsincrease. “If you’re going to acceptthe personal responsibility of notwearing a helmet, then you shouldhave to accept the personal responsi-bility of a catastrophic injury.
“They’re (helmets) there for a rea-son, and I think we have to remem-ber that.”
The House bill now returns to theSenate, which earlier this year

A 23-year-old Owendale man losthis life in a 2-vehicle traffic crashearly last week in Huron County’sSheridan Township.
The accident occurred onWadsworth Road, west of IvanhoeRoad, although the time of the crashisn’t known, according to HuronCounty Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson, whoidentified the victim as Sean T.McIntosh.
“Apparently, Kristie Booms ofHarbor Beach came across this acci-dent while she was westbound onWadsworth Road. She had to eva-sively brake to avoid impact withone of the accident vehicles, whichwas still in the roadway,” Hansonreported.
“It appears that (the victim) waswestbound in a 2000 Chevrolet carwhen his vehicle crossed the center-line, impacting with an eastbound2003 Ford pickup driven by RussellSowden, age 43, of Owendale,” hesaid.

DNR: plenty of deer to chaseduring firearm season this year
Deer hunters looking to fill theirtags this fall stand a pretty goodchance of enjoying success, accord-ing to Department of NaturalResources (DNR) officials.
The regular firearm deer seasonopens Tuesday Nov. 15.
“The deer population in southernMichigan is expected to be similar tothe last few years. Abundant foodand cover in the form of agriculturalcrops and scattered swamps andwoodlots provide very good habitatacross the southern Michigan land-scape,” Brent Rudolph, the DNR’sDeer and Elk Program leader reports.
“This high quality habitat, com-bined with relatively mild winterconditions, results in an abundantand productive deer population,” hesaid. “Deer populations generallyexceed DNR goals, and fawns gener-ally come in sets of twins andtriplets. High numbers of antlerlesspermits are available again this year, particularly in the multi-countyDMU (deer management unit) 486— most of southern Michigan, except St. Clair, Macomb, Wayneand Monroe counties.
Over the past few years, some700,000 individuals have purchaseda license to hunt deer in Michigan.
“These hunters ultimately spendmore than 9.6 million days afield andtake more than 400,000 deer,”Rudolph noted. “Over 300,000hunters participate in Michigan’sarchery season, about 600,000 huntwith a firearm and 200,000 with amuzzleloader.
“While the number of firearm sea-son hunters often rises and falls asthe traditional Nov. 15 opening dayrotates through days of the week, expanded youth hunting programsand crossbow hunting opportunitieshave increased participation amongother segments of the hunting popu-
lation. Although surveys show thatthe lead reasons many participate indeer hunting is simply the opportuni-ty to spend time outdoors withfriends and family, many huntersprepare each season to give them-selves the best chance to see and takedeer.”
A change in state law that tookeffect Sept. 1 makes it legal for 10-and 11-year-olds to hunt deer, bearand elk with firearms in Michigan. The change is not reflected in the2011 Hunting and Trapping Digest, because the publication went to pressbefore the law was changed.
The regulations change was part ofthe Hunter Heritage Act, which cre-ates a new mentored hunting pro-gram and eliminates the minimumage requirements for hunting in2012.
This year, hunters under the age of12 years may hunt on private landwith either a firearm deer license orjunior combination deer license, pro-vided they have successfully com-
pleted hunter education training, oran apprentice hunting license. Ineither case, the youngster must beaccompanied by a parent, guardianor other adult designated by the par-ent or guardian.
Hunters under the age of 14 yearsmay hunt with firearms on privateland only. A youngster hunting deermust be in possession of either afirearm deer license or an antlerlessdeer license. A youth hunter ages 10and 11 may use a combination deerlicense. If the youth has been huntersafety certified, the accompanyingadult must be at least 18 years of age.If the youngster is hunting with anapprentice license, the accompany-ing adult must be at least 21 years ofage.
Beginning in 2012, the MentoredYouth Hunting Program, currentlyunder development by a workgroupconvened by the Natural ResourcesCommission, will provide additionalhunting opportunities for youngstersunder the age of 10.
Giving backRevive fundraiser banquetraises $1,500 for ministry
by Tom MontgomeryEditor
Revive Ministry officials in CassCity recently generated $1,500 dur-ing its first-ever fundraiser banquet, held at the Cass City MethodistChurch.
“We served 130 people dinner fol-lowed by a brief program whichincluded the history of Revive, theservices we offer, and how peoplecan help,” explained Revive spokes-woman Jaime Fritz, who noted theproceeds will go to fund the min-istry’s food pantry.“The food pantry is the primary rea-
son we exist here,” she said, notingregular food distributions are con-ducted on the third Saturday of eachmonth. “This service is available tofamilies living in the Cass CitySchool District and meeting thefinancial guidelines. Familiesreceive enough food for 3 full mealsper day for 3 days on a monthlybasis. On average, we serve approx-imately 50 families each month, which means about 125 people bene-fit.
“We are blessed to have GailTuckey oversee our pantry,” Fritzcontinued. “She ensures the shelvesare stocked and the meals areplanned. This is an extremely chal-lenging responsibility due to thefinancial constraints and the varyingnumber of families that may attend.”
It costs about $400 per month tostock the pantry. Most of the food ispurchased through an arrangementwith the Flint-based Food Bank of
Eastern Michigan.“For every dollar we spend at the
food bank, we receive 6 meals worthof food,” Fritz said. “The remainderof our food is purchased from Erla’s.Local businesses, organizations andfamilies often sponsor food drivesand donate additional items to thepantry.”
The ministry also offers emergencyfood boxes for families that findthemselves in a crisis situation.
In addition, Revive hosts mobilefood pantries 3 to 4 times annually atvarious locations in the community.
“The Food Bank of EasternMichigan delivers 12 pallets, about10,000 pounds of food for us to dis-tribute. These pantries are availableto anyone who is in need regardlessof where they live or their financialsituation,” Fritz said, adding eachmobile pantry costs $600.
“We also have a CommunityClothing and Housewares Shoppe. The store is open to anyone andeveryone. Items available includeclothing, kitchenware, stoves/refrig-erators and furniture,” added Fritz, who said all of the items are donatedby the community and sold for a sug-gested donation, with all of the pro-ceeds going back into food purchas-es and operating expenses.
Revive’s other outreaches includesponsorship of its annual Children’sFun Fair, held in the spring at CassCity Middle School. The day offersactivities, lunch and treats — all freeof cost. “This past year we addedbooths that provided people with

Robin Beckrow isn’t a household name in Cass City, but the fourth grade teacher at Campbell ElementarySchool is a great example of how our local teachers goabove and beyond when it comes to giving their stu-dents the best education in the region.
Beckrow entered the on-line Classroom VideoMakeover Contest in hopes of winning more than$64,000 worth of technology products that would ben-efit not only her students, but also the entire district.
She took an interesting approach to her video entry, enlisting her entire class to participate along with apair of talented high school students — Ian Woodwardand Morgan Erla — who filmed and put the videotogether. We don’t know if Beckrow will win the prize, but we applaud her initiative and her attention toencouraging her students to take an active role in thegrant application by creating a video that woulddemonstrate their need for even more technology inthe classroom.
“We tried to show that technology helps students tostay focused and interested longer than students whouse textbooks and paper/pencil activities,” Beckrowexplained. “We basically were trying to show thattechnology is the best way to learn in this technologi-cal society we live in. I want students to be as pre-pared as possible to meet any technological obstaclesthey might encounter, (and) the best way to preparethem is to use what they will be expected to use in col-lege and beyond.”
The key here is that Beckrow looked beyond theschool budget to try and secure a way to do an evenbetter job in the classroom.
That’s important these days, given the fact localschool officials — and we’re referring to schoolsthroughout the state — have been forced to repeatedlytrim expenses across the board to maintain a healthybottom line. Unfortunately, those cuts can sometimesaffect everything from school supplies to field trips.
To their credit, Cass City Board of Education mem-bers have reinstated those sorts of expenditures asmoney has become available, but there simply isn’tenough cash to do all that they would like for our stu-dents.
That’s where teachers like Beckrow come in. Bythinking outside the box, they have managed to pro-vide kids with an even better education by seeking outavailable grant dollars.
These instructors aren’t required to do that, but theydo because they care and feel a great deal of pride intheir work as educators.
We figure their efforts deserve some recognition in atown where folks consider their school system to beone of the community’s greatest assets.

Winners and losers
Physical prowess is not a new concept. Athletic com-petitions date back at least as far as the first Olympics, which was way before my time. We’re talking ancient –as in Greece.
Greek athletes were serious about their fitness goals. They had to be. They competed in the nude. One mustbe confident in one’s own skin to let it all hang outwhile running or wrestling (avoid mental image here). Iam lacking that sort of confidence.
My clothing sets me apart from the originalOlympians. So does my gender. All Olympic sportsmenwere sportsmen. Married women were banned from theceremonies. The penalty for taking a peek was death viagetting hurled off a cliff. Ouch.
I couldn’t be a Greek Olympian, even if I wasn’t amarried woman. The naked Greek men who competedall wanted to be winners. I am hoping for the opposite.
I want to be a loser. I long to lose on multiple levels.Inches. Weight. Pants size. I think you catch my drift.
During the last few years, I’ve become a gainer. Thishappened when I wasn’t paying attention. Now it seemsI am too big for my britches and I’ve bitten off morethan I can chew – except my ability to chew isn’t theissue. I can chew just fine. Chewing stole the loser outfrom under me, because we all understand that chewingleads to one thing: eating.
I love to eat. I prefer to do it every day – more thanonce actually. Unfortunately, this hinders my quest formembership in the loser’s club.Being a loser is like a math equation. You must take in
less than you expend. This is called the theory ofloseability and involves gravity and the expansion ofone’s waistline. You may have seen the theory symbol-ized as “Expenditure equals meal calories squared,” orE = mc2.
The theory is difficult for me, but not because of mydeficiency in math skills. The problem lies with athleti-cism, and my lack thereof. However, I’ve discovereddesperation – and an increasing pants size – can causeone to rethink one’s aspirations for expenditure as wellas mathematical prowess.
The ancient Olympians expended in the nude. This is
no longer the case. In order to successfully expend, youmust first spend. Modern-day athletes hang out in mois-ture-wicking thermal-dynamic body-stabilizing fabricfrom outer space. The right workout attire is key to suc-cessful loss; or if it isn’t, at least you’ll look good trying.
The second part of the losing equation pertains to con-sumption. Some people call this a diet, but I find the termrepulsive. Delete the last letter from the word and you areleft with die. I don’t want to die, at least not before Ibecome a loser.Instead of the “D” word, I prefer a food plan I call a live-
it, because losing should include living. Oh, sure you’llneed to become familiar with the anti-calorie group oth-erwise known as raw celery and cucumbers, but a juicyburger isn’t out of the question, so long as you’ve gotyour expenditures up for the day.
It’s all about the math. That’s nothing new. The ancient Greeks realized it more
than two thousand years ago when they measured dis-tances and race times; numbers don’t lie. Embrace theirtruths and they’ll no longer be the enemy. It’s good news. You don’t have to master advanced calculus or memorizethe Pythagorean theorem. You don’t need to possess theathletic prowess of a Greek Olympian. But you can stillbe a loser – just like me.

Thank-you, Jack.I won’t forget you
by Tom MontgomeryEditor
Semper Fi.Semper Fidelis — the
Latin for “Always faith-ful” — was the first thing Ithought of when I heard ofJack Esau’s recent death.I’m not just talking about
his loyalty and love for theU.S. Marine Corps and hisdedicated service while onactive duty in the southernPacific theatre duringWorld War II; I’m alsoreferring to the fact thatJack was always faithfulwhenever I crossed hispath in town over my 25years in Cass City.
I could always count onhearing an interestingstory or 2 if I had the time(and I always made thetime). I could count on hisstorytelling ability, toldwith that certain smile andslightly gravelly voice ofhis.
When I first heard thatJack was gone, I wasdeeply saddened by therealization that I had takenhim for granted — takenhis presence around townfor granted, figuring hewould always be here.
Sure, I knew he was afounding member of theCass City HistoricalSociety and VFW Post3644 in Cass City. Butwhy, I wondered silently, didn’t I put more effortinto remembering themany stories he sharedover the years — his handon my shoulder, chucklingas he recalled oneescapade or another dur-ing his years in the mili-tary or in the meat depart-ment at Erla’s?Of course, he will always
be in our small town inone sense or another.Fortunately, for those of uswho were privileged toknow Jack, that presence
will be a source of fondmemories for the rest ofour lives.
It goes without sayingthat Jack was a master sto-ryteller, but he also knewthe history of this townright down to just aboutevery brick and woodenplank used to constructeach building in town.
One of my former sum-mer interns from CMUdoubted that when I toldher about Jack, and since Ifigured she might benefitfrom a lesson — and shewas scheduled to meetwith him anyway to writea story about that year’sMemorial Day observance— I dared her to point toany building in the villageand ask him about its his-tory. She did, andreturned to the officeimpressed.
About 2 hours later.I just smiled, knowingly,
and said, “Told you” asshe passed by my desk.
I think the one thing thatwill always stand out inmy mind about Jack isthat, regardless of the sub-ject, the person or the timein history, his storiesalways gave others’ wordsor actions the benefit ofthe doubt.
Phil Nichols, a longtimefriend of Jack who visitedhim frequently during hislast months, probably saidit best when he said he’dlove to talk to anyone whohas ever heard Jack saysomething negative aboutanother person.
I would, too.Jack was thoughtful,
interesting, kind and con-sistent in all aspects of hislife. He gave of himself toothers. Like I said, alwaysfaithful. And never forgotten.
Talk about a life welllived.

passed a similar bill on a vote of 24-14, although the Senate versionrequired motorcyclists who choosenot to wear a helmet to purchase$100,000 in insurance coverage.
Should the Senate agree with theHouse version, the bill would be sentto Gov. Rick Snyder, who has notindicated whether or not he wouldsign it.Motorcycle riders have pushed for a
repeal of the helmet law for years. The state Legislature has previouslypassed bills to repeal the law. However, former Gov. JenniferGranholm twice refused to signthem.
Only 4 states — Colorado, Illinois,Iowa and New Hampshire — havelaws allowing all motorcycle opera-tors to ride without a helmet.Another 20 states, includingMichigan, have full helmet laws forall riders, and the remaining stateshave laws that exempt adult riders toone degree or another based on their

“During the summer months weparticipate in community activitiessuch as Music in the Park, the Fourthof July weekend, Deford Days andSummer Mania. At these events weoffer free face painting, cotton candyand popcorn,” she said. “Our goal isto continue to support these activitiesand be involved in any way possi-ble.”
But that support wouldn’t be possi-ble without the help of area resi-dents, who can lend a hand in sever-al ways, including referring those inneed to Revive Ministries, accordingto Fritz, who said there are manyvolunteer opportunities — both dur-ing the monthly food pantries and atthe store, which is located on Main
Street in Cass City. “During storehours you can help by sorting cloth-ing, stocking and organizing shelves, cleaning, etc. We are open to extrahelp or even to sign up on the sched-ule,” she added.Donations, including cash contribu-
tions, are also welcome.
“As a non-profit organization, werely on donations to cover ourexpenses,” she said. “We feel veryfortunate to have been able to raiseenough support to pay for half of ournew facility. We do, however, stillhave a monthly mortgage paymentfor the remaining half. It is our goalto pay this off in the very near future,(which) will allow more of ourresources to be directed back to thecommunity.”
Revive Ministries’ roots date backto 2005, when a group of people atthe Cass City Missionary Churchcame up with the idea of developingan annual evangelism outreach eventfor area residents. That led to“Revive ‘05”, a weekend of meet-ings featuring a praise and worshipband and Sunday morning service.
The group added the fun fair thenext year, and soon there was discus-
sion of organizing a food pantry. Inthe spring of 2009, the ministry pro-vided its first meal box to its firstqualifying recipient, and later thatyear the organization became a regis-tered 501c3 non-profit group, inde-pendent from the church. After moving from the church to the
former Millennium building (next toMcDonald’s) in Cass City, the min-istry purchased its own building inthe downtown area — the formerBurkhard Plumbing and Heatingbuilding at 6400 Main St.What started as a weekend outreach
event with a handful of key leadersand a group of helping hands hassince grown to include a board of 8and an army of more than 50 regularvolunteers. Since that first food boxwent out in March 2009, Revive hasplaced roughly 14,000 meals in thehands of those in need.Fritz lauded the support of the com-
munity and residents’ willingness tosupport the ministry. “Without them,we would not be able to meet theneeds of those within our communi-ty,” she said. “None of this would bepossible without the many volunteerhours and financial donations givenby those in our community.”

age.Under the state’s no-fault law, a
cyclist who collides with a car ortruck — an estimated 60 to 70 per-cent of accidents — is entitled tofull, lifetime medical coverage bythe insurance on the car or truck.
An Office of Highway SafetyPlanning study suggests that a repealof the helmet law would result in atleast 30 additional motorcycle fatali-ties each year along with 127 moreincapacitating injuries and $129 mil-lion in additional costs to citizens.
According to the Michigan StatePolice, head injuries are the leadingcause of death in motorcycle crashes.
Helmets are estimated to be 37 per-cent effective in preventing fatalinjuries to motorcyclists; per mile, cyclists are about 37 times as likelyas passenger car occupants to die in atraffic crash and about 8 times aslikely to be injured. In addition, thestatistics show that hospital stays arelonger for unhelmeted riders and thecost to taxpayers is significantlyhigher because many motorcyclistsare uninsured.

to get an early start on next year’svolleyball season, after her Owen-Gage Bulldogs fell in straight gamesWednesday night in the semifinals ofClass D district play in Caseville.
The hosts delivered lopsided deci-sions of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-17 toadvance to the championship game, where the Eagles captured their thirdstraight district crown.
“This season was a great experi-ence. Every person, includingmyself, took a lot away from the sea-son. I think the girls did great learn-ing a new rotation under a new phi-losophy.
“It has been an honor coachingthese girls and I look forward tohelping build a successful program.Next season started Thursday,” saidRoss.
Still, when the Bulldogs take to thecourts next season, missing will be
senior leaders Mandy Muntz,Christin Harris and Erika Mroz.
Muntz recorded 7 kills and 4 serv-ice points, including a pair of aces, while Harris added 11 kills, andMroz 6 kills, in their final Bulldogouting.
“Mandy was very consistent for uson the net,” said Ross. “Christin real-ly stepped up at the end of the sea-son. The girls worked very hard as ateam this year. We just made criticalerrors at critical times that took usout of some close matches.”
Kayla Montreuil, junior, posted 26assists and added team-highs in bothpoints and aces, with 10 and 4,respectively.“Kayla worked very hard for us this
season, putting up almost every ballthat she could get her hands on.She’ll be a great leader that will setthe tone for the team next year,” saidRoss.
“We will have Miranda Radabaugh, and Rachel Mroz returning next year.Miranda is a very smart player thatwill be transitioning to a strongerrole for her senior year. Rachel pro-vided depth for our team that cameinto play many games this year withher net play and serving.”

Christmas is arriving early all overCass City as volunteers at the localmissionary church prepare to serveas a new collection point forOperation Christmas Child.
The participation of Cass City resi-dents along with the help of this newcollection location is expected tohelp ensure a brighter holiday for aportion of some 8.5 million childrensuffering from natural disasters, war, terrorism, disease, poverty andfamine all over the world.
Shirley Tuckey, Cass City, willserve as the Cass City MissionaryChurch drop-off site coordinator forOperation Christmas Child.“This is a wonderful ministry,” said
Tuckey, who explained the projectinvolves residents filling shoe boxeswith items such as school supplies, toys, toiletry items and a letter ofencouragement. Step-by-stepinstructions are available by loggingonto the website www.samari-
tanspurse.org, and shoe boxes areavailable at the church, which islocated at 4393 Koepfgen Rd. (onemile west and an eighth of a milesouth of Cass City).
Tuckey acknowledged that somepeople might wonder why Michigangroups are collecting donations forchildren overseas when youngstersin the state are going hungry. Theanswer, she said, is that this projectdoesn’t focus on sending food.Instead, volunteers are working tosend some basic necessities to chil-dren around the globe who wouldotherwise do without. Take a simpleschool supply such as crayons — insome countries, a box of crayonscosts $5 (about a week’s wages),Tuckey pointed out.
While the missionary church hasparticipated in the project in pastyears, this is the first time the churchwill serve as a collection point, according to Tuckey, who said thelocal goal is to collect 100 shoe
boxes filled with donations.Local volunteers will be collecting
donations during National CollectionWeek, Nov. 14-21. Contributionscan be dropped off at the missionarychurch from 10 a.m. to noon Nov.14, 15 and 19; from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov.16, 17 and 20; from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov.18; and from 8 to 10 a.m. Nov. 21.
More information is available bycall the church at (989) 872-2729.
Since 1993, Operation ChristmasChild has hand-delivered more than86 million gift-filled shoe boxes toneedy children in some 130 coun-tries.
Operation Christmas Child workersuse whatever means necessary toreach suffering children, includingsea containers, trucks, trains, air-planes, boats, camels and even dogsleds. Tracking technology allowsdonors to follow their box to its des-tination country, where it is hand-delivered to a child in need.

Knights Insurance Agency in CassCity is helping with the fight againsttexting while driving, by using thelatest trend in fashion. They havegiven “W82TXT” thumb bands tolocal high school students during apresentation about the importance ofnot texting while driving.
A study by the Virginia TechTransportation Institute states thattexting while driving increases therisk of accident 23.2 times overunimpaired driving. In the momentsbefore an accident, drivers usuallyspend 5 seconds looking at theirphone which is enough time to covermore than the length of a football
field going normal highway speeds. Since this remains a prevalent and
completely preventable issue,Knights Insurance Agency is encour-aging students to get involved bydonning their bands in support of thecause. The thumb bands and presen-tation materials were part of a pro-gram from Auto-Owners Insurance, one of the insurance carriers thatKnights Insurance Agency repre-sents.
“We feel this is part of our corpo-rate responsibility,” said KatieNoirot, Auto-Owners Insurance sen-ior vice president, marketing and
sales. “Our independent agents alsotake on that responsibility and wantto help their communities wheneverpossible. Hopefully the next timesomeone goes to text, and looksdown and sees their thumb band, they will think twice.”
In addition to organizing these pre-sentations, Auto-Owners Insuranceis holding a contest that high schoolstudents can enter to produce theirown public service announcementabout the W82TXT campaign.Details can be found on the Auto-Owners Insurance Facebook pageand the winning PSA may be usedfor the company’s campaign.
