OLD MUTUAL TWO OCEANS MARATHON

3 - 4 AprilVARIOUS VENUS IN CAPE TOWN

The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon has earned a reputation as the world’s most beautiful marathon. The first race was held in 1970 and saw 26 runners line up to face the unknown challenge. Since then, the race has become a national institution and a firm favourite with local, upcountry, and international athletes.

The event begins with the expo & race registration at the Cape Town international Convention Centre (CTICC) between 1-3 April.

The 3rd of April will also include the 22km & 10km Trail Run, the 5km run/walk known as the International Friendship Run and the series of Fun Runs: Nappy Dash, Toddlers’ Trot, 2.1km and 5.6km taking place at the University of Cape Town (UCT) rugby fields, Upper Campus, Rondebosch.

The weekend will pick with the 56km Ultra

marathon on 4 April, accompanied by the 21km Half marathon.

Although most entries are already close you can still join the Fun Runs at UCT and visit the expo to stock with the best running gear.

Due to recent fires around the Peninsula the choice between the Chapman’s Peak route and the old ‘ Ou Kaapse Weg’ route will be made closer to the day. Check the web-site www.twooceansmarathon.org.za. or ask a local for where you can watch and cheer.

Cape Town plays host to the second round of the Monster Energy South African National Motocross Championship. The best Motocross riders in South Africa will compete at the second round of the Monster Energy South African National MX Championship, sanctioned by MSA (Motorsport South Africa).

Motocross is the most physically demanding sport on the planet. This is due to the extremely high speeds on forever rapidly changing terrain and

the sheer carnage that the athletes go through while competing in a flat out 15 – 20 minute race.

Zone 7 will also be transformed into the most spectator friendly venue for round 2! There will be a VIP deck built on the side of the track closest to the main straight to host some very important guests and competition winners. This will allow them to get into the action as close as possible. All fans will have a chance to chat and have pictures taken with the beautiful Monster Girls and the kids will also be able to get signed posters by their local favou-rite heroes.

There will also be a Freestyle Motocross display during lunch with some of the country’s finest FMX pulling out their newest tricks to please their fans.

Practice kicks off at 8am with the racing the kick off shortly after at 10am, so get the family together and come down to Zone 7 for a great family day out.

There is catering/bar facilities on site. Entrance is R50 per adult and free for kids of 12 years and younger.

South Africa’s well established legal framework offers first world security of title to foreign buyers of immovable property. There are no restrictions on the ownership by non-residents of property situated in South Africa, except of course that, foreigners who are in the country illegally may not own property here. There are, however, procedures and requirements which must be complied with and the next few paragraphs will provide answers to some frequently asked questions that foreign buyers of South African property may have.

CAN FOREIGN FUNDS BE BROUGHT INTO SOUTH AFRICA TO BUY PROPERTY?Yes, foreign funds can be paid into any bank account in South Africa. Usually the foreign purchaser will pay the purchase price for the property bought into the trust account of the estate agent that brokered the sale or into the trust account of the conveyancing attorney who attends to the registration of the transaction. Both estate agents and attorneys are covered by Fidelity Funds, which guard against theft or negligence on the side of the agent or attorney.

When a non-resident transfers funds from a foreign source into a South African bank account, a record known as a ‘Deal Receipt’ is issued by the South African bank. This is an important document and the non-resident will need to submit it to the Reserve Bank when, in future, he sells the property and wishes to return the funds to the foreign country.

CAN MONEY BE BORROWED INSOUTH AFRICA TO BUY PROPERTY?Non-residents purchasing a property in South Africa may borrow up to a maximum of 50% of the purchase price from a South African financial institution.

The remaining 50% of the purchase price will therefore need to be made up offoreign funds that the non-resident transfers to a South African account.

The total loan amount granted by a bank however remains within the bank’s discretion. A bank will generally require proof of the non-resident’s income as well as compliance with South African anti-‘money laundering’ legislation (the Financial Intelligence Centre Act), which involves the furnishing of proper identification and the submitting of certified copies of documents (such as a passport and proof of residential address).

CAN A FOREIGN COMPANYBE THE PURCHASER (OR SELLER)?Yes, a foreign company can buy and own land in South Africa. In certaininstances, this would require that the purchasing register itself as an entity in South Africa and, if the shares are owned

by the non-resident, the company must in addition appoint a public officer who is a South African resident.

MUST A PURCHASER BE PRESENT INSOUTH AFRICA TO SIGN THEDOCUMENTS OF THE TRANSFER?Fortunately a purchaser need not necessarily be personally present in South Africa to sign the documents that are required for the registration of transfer of ownership in the property. However, there are formalities that must be complied with in such a case, requiring that the docu-ments must be signed either before a Notary Public or at the South African Embassy in the foreign country. Both these options are unfortunately usually costly and time consuming. It is often to the non-resident’s best advantage, whether he is selling or buying, to execute a Special Power of Attorney prior to departing from South Africa in favour of a local friend, family member, or attorney so that this person can act and sign documentation on his behalf. It is important to remember that an affidavit cannot be signed by the person holding the Power of Attorney on your behalf. For this reason there will invariably still be some documents for such client to sign abroad.

WHEN A NON-RESIDENT SELLS A PROPERTY, CAN THE MONEY BE TAKEN OUT OFSOUTH AFRICA?Yes, money that was introduced to South Africa from a foreign source and any profit thereon, can be taken out of the country (repatriated) when the non-resident sells the property. Any sums still owing under a mortgage bond over the property must be paid as the sale transaction is registered so that only the net proceeds will be repatriated.

Note that such repatriation of funds is subject to South African Exchange Control Regulations which means, amongst other things, that the Reserve Bank will investigate the initial source of the non-resident’s investment in South Africa.

Furthermore, if a foreigner takes up permanent residency in South Africa and signs a Declaration and Undertaking at a South African bank (namely declaring whether they are in possession of foreign funds and undertaking not to place same at the disposal of anyone resident in the Republic), they will be considered a resident for Exchange Control purposes and accordingly will only be able to freely repatriate funds within five years of their immigration. Thereafter they will be considered to be a South African resident and subject to the same regulations and limitations. Finally, the repatriation of funds will be subject to capital gains tax, which we discuss in the next paragraph.

DOES A NON-RESIDENT HAVE TO PAYINCOME TAX?Income Tax- Whilst South Africans are taxed on their worldwide income, non-residents are liable for income tax only on income accruing from a South African source and may then utilize the

double tax treaty benefit (if applicable) to avoid double taxation. For example, if a non-resident rents his property out, he will be obliged to declare such rental for primary taxation in his country of residence but will still be obliged to declare such income in South Africa as well. Thus, non-residents are also obliged to register for income tax purposes in South Africa.

Capital Gains Tax (CGT)- The non-resident is liable for payment of tax on the gain made on selling the property (capital gains tax).

Withholding Tax- Because some foreign buyers in the past avoided paying CGT when they sold their property, new legislation was passed which obliges any buyer of a property sold by a non-resident for R2 million or more, to retain a percent-age of the purchase price and pay it to the South African Revenue Services within a maximum of 28 days of the transfer.

Seymour Krelborn works and lives in a rundown flower shop on Skid Row. While his boss, Gravis Mushnick, struggles to keep the shop open, Seymour seeks a way of bringing the shop - and himself - fame and fortune. He purchases an exotic plant from an oriental street vendor, naming the plant Audrey II, after the girl he loves.

The plant proves good for business, attracting more customers to the store, but gradually Seymour learns to his horror that Audrey II craves more than potash, and Seymour must scare up human food to satisfy the plant’s appetite.

Nritya is the expressive element of the classical art forms of India, it is the application of physical movements in conjunction with the mind and soul. Alankaaram is to adorn or beautify. So, Nritya Alankaaram is to beautify and so uplift the soul through dance.

Inspired by the excellent music, the choreographers have deviated from the conventional constructs of an Indian Classical Dance Recital, to piece together a performance with a fresh perspective and accessible to all members of the audience, while retaining the aesthetics and theoretical accuracy of the root Classical forms. An estimated 55 000 spectators flocked to the Green Point Fan Walk tonight to salute 600 firemen and celebrate cultural diversity in the city’s 6th annual Cape Town Carnival. Highlights of the procession included a swarm of jellyfish, giant African elephant and Mother Earth floats. Joining these were more than 2000 performers, and perhaps the most popular were the city’s fire heroes who were enthusiastically saluted as they strutted their stuff down the 1.2km Carnival corridor. Mayor Patricia de Lille and the Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Rejoice Mabudafhasi, along with Cape Town Carnival brand ambassadors, ProVerb and Liezel van der Westhuizen, cut the ribbon at 19h00 to signal the start of the 2015 parade. While the 20 floats, puppets and contraptions were well supported by the cheering crowds, the firefighters were the clear heroes of the 2015 Cape Town Carnival. Jay Douwes, CEO of Cape Town Carnival, said: “The 2015 Cape Town Carnival was a resounding success. While it is difficult to quote exact numbers for a free event like this one, we estimate the highest attendance figure to date. It was a beautiful Cape evening and the Fan Walk was the perfect setting to celebrate both our diversity and the solidarity that has prevailed in recent weeks.” More than 50 community groups showed their interpretation of the ELEMENTAL theme of Fire, Water, Air and Earth – ‘the unstoppable forces that shape us and our environment’ as part of the procession. Spectators, who dressed up in Carnival paraphernalia – including masks, feathers, glow sticks and festive hats – were in awe of the mesmerizing spectacle on display.

The GOLDEN EASTER EGG HUNT at KENILWORTH RACECOURSE

The Golden Easter Egg Hunt will have its third renewal at Kenilworth Racecourse on Monday 6 April 2015. It has become an eagerly anticipated treasure hunt with a difference as the substantial prize money goes towards the lucky finder’s education, so it is a winner for both children and parents.

The day has also become popular with regular racegoers as fine Easter fare can be enjoyed and the horseracing on Cape Town’s flagship racecourse is NEVER short of class or excitement.

The lucky scholar who finds the Golden Easter Egg will receive the grand prize valued at R10,000, which will go towards his or her education. The prize money has kindly been donated by New Turf Carriers. The Easter Hunt will take place between races 4 and 5 (3PM) on an action-packed racecard and is limited to scholars aged 6-9 years old with registration commencing at 11h30 (please bring along your child’s birth certificate).

The age restriction should not put a dampener on the day for kids outside of that group as there will be stacks of FREE fun-filled entertainment commencing at 11:00 and continuing right through until 17:00. This will include a special visit from the Easter Bunny, Jumping Castle, Face Painters, Free Popcorn and Candy Floss will also be provided. Don’t forget your camera and Easter basket because the Easter Bunny will be available for photos.

Moms and Dads and other race going adults can feast on a tasty buffet in the Somerset Room @ R250 per person, while enjoying the horseracing and all of the other on course action.

Horse racing might be our forte, but we also cater for a variety of other events, such as conferences, functions, banquets, exhibitions, matric farewells, private parties and much more.

BOT RIVER’S BARRELS & BEARDS HARVEST CELEBRATION

Big beards, bountiful tables and beautiful wines set the tone. Delight in a weekend filled with bold wines, raging beards and genuine hospitality when the wine community of Bot River in the Overberg celebrates their harvest with a trio of unique events, culminating with their signature Barrels & Beards showdown on Saturday, 18 April 2015.

Your expedition into the laager of this winemaking clan kicks off with a laid-back, sunset session on the ‘stoep’ of the legendary Bot River Hotel on Friday evening, 17 April.

One can ease into the weekend a la Bot River style and mingle with the locals over

a few beers, and then amble over to the rustic Shuntin’ Shed for wood-fired pizzas ‘on the tracks’. The winemakers will be there in their bearded glory, so be sure to grab a seat next to one to find out what makes Bot River tick.

Saturday morning, 18 April, tempts the more serious winos and cellar buffs to attend a Best of Bot River Tasting at Luddite Wines, owned by affable winemakers Niels and Penny Verburg. During this enlightening tasting, a selec-tion of terroir-driven Bot River wines will be ‘blind tasted’ against international wines of the highest standards ranging from rare Rhône vintages to New World gems.

Your fun-filled weekend concludes with the ever-popular Bot River Barrels & Beards post-harvest celebration when the win-emakers’ self-imposed shaving ban (which starts on 1 February and lasts throughout the entire harvesting period) ends on a high and hairy note at the family-run Beaumont Estate on Saturday evening, 18 April. At this annual celebration of good food, wine and company the winemakers flaunt their facial fur and wacky whiskers during an amusing ‘beard parade’ when the boldest beard in Bot River is crowned by esteemed judges – who take their job very seriously.

A new addition to this year’s hairy hullabaloo will be the launch of an exclu-sive Bot River Auction Reserve 2013 wine, which will be auctioned off on the even-ing. For one night only, guests will have the opportunity to get their hands on this premium red blend, made with only the finest grapes from the Bot River area, with proceeds going towards paying for an extra teacher for Bot River Primary School. Only 100 magnums and 300 750ml bottles will be produced to go under the hammer.Besides a chance to get your piece of this Limited Release action, the Bot River Bar-rels & Beards 2015 party includes compli-mentary barrel tastings of the latest wines, a hearty farm-to-fork dinner and music en-tertainment led by a lively marimba band. The Treetop Canopy Walkway

In celebration of its Centenary (1913- 2013), Kirstenbosch botanical gardens chose to add this spectacular project that would be a unique and permanent feature to the venue.

This special walkway is a perfect means to mark the occasion. It was built purely from bequest money which has been left to Kirstenbosch by numerous donors, but predominantly Mary Mullins. It is also a fantastic opportunity to take people into the treetops, a place with a distinctive ecology that is generally inaccessible. From here people can experience the forest from high above the ground and also see birds and other animals that are generally elusive. One can experience an entirely new world of tree dynamics - how the treetops move in the wind and how the crowns of the trees interact with one another. The walkway then bursts through and above the canopy, giving you an impression of what it is like to be above the forest. At this point, the walkway provides spectacular 360 degree vistas comprising of Cape Town and the surrounding majestic mountain slopes. Adding to the exceptionality of this modern feature is the fact that the walkway is fully wheelchair accessible.

The design of the walkway is envisaged as a sinuous, lightweight, non-intrusive steel structure, which supports a slatted timber deck, and snakes its way into, through and over the ever-changing tree canopy. The structure, comprising ribs and a structural spine, inspired by a snake’s, is supported on slender steel columns intertwined with creepers. On site, the pieces were bolted together and mounted on top of long columns much like a giant mechanic set.

The walkway takes advantage of the sloping ground and starts and ends within the arboretum, so there is almost no visual impact from the lawns and walks in the garden. There are no mechanical or electrical aspects to the walk and the gentle gradients will easily raise visitors to over 11 meters above ground and is about a 130 meters long.

There is no extra charge for this added feature. A normal garden entry ticket is all that is required.

CAPE FUR SEAL

Situated only 8 nautical miles (about 16km) from Simon’s Town, Seal Island is home to 75,000 Cape Fur Seals, 24 different bird species and the hunting ground of the Great White Shark. All year round we often encounter Dolphins, Humpback whales and Brydes whales. From July to November the Southern Right whales are plentiful in the bay and you can be assured of a sighting.

During the winter months the Great White Sharks are extremely active around the island and we enjoy many sightings and often witness natural predations. The main breeding season for the Cape Fur Seal is November and December when almost 20 000 pups are born.

The majority of the seals on Duiker Island, out of Hout Bay Harbour, are males waiting out their time until they reach the right breeding age, which is between the ages of 8 to 12 years depending on their size. Duiker Island is not a breeding colony as the sea can get very rough and the pups get swept off. The island is most densely populated from January through March due to the seals moulting. During this period they do not go off in search of food but rely on fats they have stored in their blubber.

BIG 5 SAFARI

The phrase Big Five game was coined by white hunters and refers to the five most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot. The col-lection consists of the lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros.

SHARK CAGE DIVING

Great white sharks are the apex predators of our oceans and Cape Town is one of the shark cage diving capitals of the world. Sharks are iconic and magnificent creatures. African cape buffalo (Synceruscaffer): The African or cape buffalo is a large horned bovid. Buffalo are sometimes reported to kill more people in Africa than any other animal, although the same claim is also made of hippos and crocodiles. It is considered the most dangerous of the Big Five, reportedly causing the most hunter deaths, with wounded animals reported to ambush and attack pursuers.

Lion (Pantheraleo): The lion is a large carnivorous feline of Africa and northwest India, having a short, tawny coat, a tufted tail, and, in the male, a heavy mane around the neck and shoulders. A lion may attack without provocation, and is considered by many to be the best of the Big Five.

Lions habituate the savanna where tall grasses, shrubs and bushes obscure and provide them cover and camouflage. This thick undergrowth is commonly referred to as jess. As lions are ambush hunters, they use this natural cover to stalk close as possible before making a final charge to catch their prey. Lions do not generally avoid confrontation, but will usually face the challenger. Lions are unpredictable and may charge when suf-ficiently annoyed or confronted by danger.

Leopard (Pantherapardus): The leopard is a large, carnivorous feline having either tawny fur with dark rosette-like markings or black fur. They are wary of humans and will take flight in the face of danger. The leopard is solitary by nature, and is most active between sunset and sunrise, although it may hunt during the day in some areas. Leopards can be found in

the savanna grasslands, brush land and forested areas in Africa. The male leopard is less than half the size of a male lion. The leopard is the smallest of the big cats, and rarely exceeds 200 lb (91 kg).

A visit to a South African reserve will, most likely, allow seeing not only the big 5 but other habitants of the African bush. Although the stock will be different between various reserves you’ll be able to watch: Giraffes, Elands, Springbok, Hippopotamus and Zebras.

CAPE PENINSULA BABOONS

The Baboon Matters Trust comprises a handful of dedicated volunteers who are at the forefront of baboon conservation in South Africa. The goals of the trust include raising awareness for the plight of baboons as well as education and training so that sustainable solutions can be found for areas of conflict between man and baboon. On a practical level the trust makes provision for the rescue and care of injured or sick baboons, and aims to support rehabilitation centres that focus their attention on baboons.

Cape Species: The Chacma Baboon (Papioursinus), also known as the Cape Baboon, is, like all other baboons, from the Old World monkey family. With a body length of up to 115 cm and a weight from 15 to 31 kg, it is among the largest and heaviest baboon species. The Chacma is generally dark brown to gray in color, with a patch of rough hair on the nape of its neck.

Unlike the northern baboon species (the Guinea, Hamadryas, and Olive Baboons), Chacma males do not have a mane. Perhaps the most distinctive feature of this baboon is its long, downward sloping face. Males can have canine teeth as long as 2 inches (longer than a lion’s canine teeth). Baboons are sexually dimorphic, males being considerably larger than females. The Chacma Baboon is found in southern Africa, ranging from South Africa north to Angola, Zambia, and Mozambique. Size and color vary within that range.

Chacmas usually live in social groups composed of multiple adult males, adult females, and their offspring. Occasionally, however, very small groups form that include only a single adult male and several adult females. Chacma troops are characterized by a dominance hierarchy. Female ranking within the troop is inherited through the mother and remains quite fixed, while male ranking is tenuous and changes often. Chacmas are unusual among baboons in that neither males nor females form strong relationships with members of the same sex. Instead, the strongest social bonds are often between unrelated adult males and females. (Wikipedia)

BOULDERS BEACH PENGUINS

A visit to the famous Boulders Beach penguins should be part of every Cape Town itinerary. The penguins from this growing colony allow for close encounters with these famous sea birds - and most tourists fall helplessly in love with them. The story of the African penguins at Boulders Beach is one of remarkable urban colonization, but the species as a whole faces many threats and these aquatic flightless birds are listed as endangered.

The story of the penguin colony in Cape Town started in 1983 when a pair was spotted on Foxy Beach at Boulders. Since then the colony has grown rapidly and now totals about 3 000 Boulders Beach penguins. The birds came to False Bay from Dyer Island after the reduction in commercial pelagic trawling, which has increased the supply of pilchards and anchovy - part of the penguins’ diet. Boulders Beach is located in Simon’s Town, just over the hilly peninsula from Cape Town. It’s easily accessible by bus, car, taxi or train.

Southern Africa is often considered the “gemstone capital of the world” as almost half of the world’s gemstones are found in this part of the world. OSTRICH LEATHER & MOHAIR

Ostrich leather is the result of tanning skins taken from African ostriches farmed for their feathers, skin and meat. The leather is distinctive for its pattern of bumps or vacant quill follicles, ranged across a smooth field in varying densities. It requires an intricate, specialised and expensive

production process making it costly as well as beautiful.

Although the first commercial farming began in South Africa in 1850, the industry collapsed after World War I and the drop in demand for the feathers for fashionable hats and military uniforms. Other products were marketed, with each success battered by world events and droughts until now, when ostrich skin is globally available and seen as a luxury item in high-end demand. Leather came late in the story of ostrich farming but after a tannery was set up onsite, it went on to make an impact in European haute couture and in the U.S. for cowboy boots. Availability was artificially limited when ostrich leather was subject to a cartel monopoly through trade sanctions, and single export and distribution channels until the end of apartheid in 1993.

After that and other factors, the South African government began to export stock allowing other countries to have their own ranches. Although wider production resulted in competition and lower prices, Klein Karoo Group remains the leading global producer. Today the industry is driven mostly by the leather and the meat, which is exported to all parts of the world.

South Africa produces over 60% of the world’s ostriches and also has a distinct quality edge in the leather tanning process. Eleven years ago, Charles and Melony Biggs were farming ostrich, sheep and goats in the Graaff Reinet area in the Karoo. At first they exported skins to people he had met in the USA, where he had previously farmed ostrich for 4 years. They learned a lot in that time abroad, one thing being what we in South Africa had to offer and show off to the world in terms of leadership in Ostrich and Mohair.

They started to seek for local manufacturers and work together with designers to present a classic collection that also presents a freshness and elegancy. In 2000, Karoo Classics opened its doors in Stellenbosch: “We had 30 handbags and six belts in stock, but 100% faith in the fantastic natural products made from ostrich leather and mohair”, says Charles. From the very beginning a policy of Proudly South Africa was adopted.

They spent months looking for and visiting factories all over South Africa. The criteria were: simply, high quality at a reasonable price. Today they have a wonderful group of suppliers, from big factories to family businesses and individuals. In 2003, Karoo Classics opened in Cape Town and five years later in Franschhoek. Today they have the world’s largest selection of ostrich leather goods, carrying over 1000 handbags alone. Ostrich leather and Mohair products can be found at Karoo Classics. the two lighthouses that adorn the point – one still functional, informative interpretive signage that traces the cultural andnatural history of the Point. The lighthouse is accessible by foot or you can catch the Flying Dutchman funicular to the top.

BOULDERS BEACH

After you have fallen in love with the penguins head to the secluded Boulders Beach and take a swim in the comparatively warm waters of the False Bay. This beach is ideal for kids as immense boulders shelter the cove from currents, wind and large waves - but please always take care. Also, don’t touch or feed the penguins. They might look cute and cuddly but their beaks are as sharp as razors and if they feel threatened they have no qualms about nipping the odd finger or nose.

ROBBEN ISLAND

From the 17th to the 20th centuries, Robben Island served as a place of banishment, isolation and imprisonment. Today it is a World Heritage Site and museum, a poignant reminder to the newly democratic South Africa of the price paid for freedom.

The three and a half hour tour includes a return trip across Table Bay, a visit to the Maximum Security Prison, interaction with an ex-political prisoner and a 45 minute bus tour with a guide providing commentary.

STELLENBOSCH WINE ROUTES

The Stellenbosch Wine Route is the first and the largest in South Africa and all the estates along the route are within a 12km radius of the town. It is arguably the country´s most famous, and includes more than 200 wine and grape producers within the boundaries of the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin classification. The Wine Route is divided into five sub-routes for a convenient exploration but you are welcome to be creative and target the wineries by any classification or taste. WELLINGTON WINE ROUTE

Halfway between the bright lights of Cape Town and the statuesque

mountains of the Western Cape, lies the hidden valley

Stellenbosch-based Van Ryn’s Brandy Distillery has rounded off a winning year with news that they

are the New York International Spirits Competition’s International Brandy Producer of the Year.

The fifth annual edition of the Competition also saw Gold medals awarded to the Van Ryn’s 12 year

old Distillers Reserve and the Van Ryn’s 15 year old Fine Cask Reserve. These are both premium potstill brandies, which according South African law must

be distilled in a copper potstill and matured for a minimum of three years.

Judged by people working in the liquor industry, such as buyers, sommeliers, hoteliers and importers,

the New York International Spirits Competition (NYISC) is open to commercially produced spirits

from around the world which are sold in the United States.

“This is an exceptional honour for Van Ryn’s because on average, less than half of those who

submit win a medal,” said Genius Mnywabe, Distell’s Marketing Manager for Fine Brandy

and Cognac.

The award seals what has been superb year of performance by Van Ryn’s, which in July also won the International Spirits Challenge’s Best Worldwide Brandy trophy for the Van Ryn’s 15 year old. It was

the fourth time in six years that the Distillery has collected the trophy.

Van Ryn’s Master Distiller Marlene Bester was delighted with brand’s success at the NYISC.

“International awards confirm what we already know about the incredibly quality of South African

potstill brandies, however it is watching people enjoying a brandy that took a lot of time and effort

to produce which I find most rewarding.”

The Van Ryn’s potstill brandies are designed to be enjoyed neat, with a splash of water

or an ice cube.
