Clermont: Kids’ College 2018A Bit of Spanish Grades 4-9Are you interested in learning a second language? Do you want to have fun in doing so, keep pace with popular culture, increase your mental ability, help others, and widen your personal potential? Join us! You will write a daily personal journal and learn how to greet and communicate with your fellow class mates in Spanish. You will also learn how to recognize many items, count to 500, sing songs, participate in a conversation, and name foods, all in Spanish! We will even have some delicious Latin desserts to sample. You may boost your confidence and establish a rapport while meeting and greeting new friends. Bienvenido! Instructor: Genee Hernandez

Acting: Bad to the Bone Bring on the Bad Guys: Villains, Witches & Evil Queens in theatre movies and literature. Sometimes it’s good to be bad, in stories anyway. This class takes an in-depth look at the creations of classic, modern, and personally created villains. Learn and explore the laugh, the look, the walk, the talk and then get the chance to act them out! Instructor: Kaitlin Baxter

Acting: Excitement of Musical TheatreDo you dream of being a star on Broadway? This class will teach you what it takes to be a professional performer. Learn the hip, hooray, and ballyhoo of 42nd Street. Perform scenes and songs, study the techniques used in auditions, and become skilled with stage directions and movement. At the end of the class, perform in a musical theatre variety show, filled with singing, dancing, and acting. All new material for 2018! Instructor: Kaitlin Baxter

Acting: Hair & Makeup of Theatre Grades 4-9 Have you ever watched a show and wondered how they make a 12 year old girl look like a 90 year old granny? Do you like to watch countless tutorials for vintage hair or Halloween makeup? We will learn everything from wrinkles to Smokey eyes in this class that you’ll have to see to believe! Materials will be provided but students are encouraged to bring in materials from home if they would like. Instructor: Mariah Morton

Acting: Improvisation Grades 2-5 & Grades 4-9Did you know that some actors don’t even use scripts? Instead they make it up on the spot using their imagination! Come play games, have a laugh, and learn a technique that’s useful both inside and outside of theatre. Every day will be something new. Instructor: Mariah Morton

Acting: Kids on StageAre you a kid? Have you dreamed of being on stage? Well why not find out what it takes to make it big! Perform scenes and play games all while learning what you need to star in a performance at the end of the session! Instructor: Kaitlin Baxter

Acting: Once Upon A TimeHave you ever pretended to be a knight or a princess? Is the villain a bad guy or just misunderstood? You get to decide. Students will learn about the history of fairy tales before creating a story that they will star in! Instructor: Mariah Morton

Acting: Technical Theatre Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes of a theatrical production? What goes on backstage? How do directors create a show? Explore shoe-box set dioramas, colored lighting effects, costumes, make-up and sound effects as you learn about the technical side of theatre. Put on a puppet theatre presentation using all the technical elements you create. Instructor: Marni Whitehead

Acting: The Wright Stuff Have you ever wanted to write a play? Do you wonder what happens on paper before an actor even picks up a script? How do you create rich characters and fun dialogue? After learning the basics of playwriting, you will write a scene that you and classmates will perform in front of a live audience. Join the fun as you move from author to playwright to actor! All Things YARN From paper looms to cute baby turtles made of yarn, this class is meant for the creative artists! Make anything from a bracelet, cards, or yarn dolls to an art plank board, there is something for the beginner students as well as the advanced. Pick your favorite colors to create things to go with your outfit or as décor in your bedroom, these yarn crafts will be sure to please! Instructor: Stephanie Henry

Angry Birds LiveThe survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Dish out revenge on the greedy pigs who stole their eggs. Use the powers of the birds to destroy the pig’s defenses. Players build a structure and launch an Angry Bird in an attempt to knock it and the pigs down to win points. The popular video game comes to life as players pull back a slingshot loaded with Angry Birds and let them fly at the pigs. Instructor: Larry Edwards

ArcheryCan you hit the bull’s eye? Go for the gold and win award stickers as you master the basic steps in using a bow and arrow. Students will learn safe shooting techniques. Or with prior experience in Archery, you will improve your archery skills by learning advanced aiming techniques, shooting from greater distances and enjoying challenging new games. The course will end with games including a balloon shoot and an official tournament with award ribbons. Instructor: Adam Taylor

Art: Animals and Everything in Art What could be more fun than making animals? Making animals with chalk paintings, tangles, tie-dye, cartooning, tessellations and much, much more!!!!! Each student is asked to bring in a white or light tee shirt the first week for tie dying. Instructor: Jamey Crider

Art: CeramicsCeramics will be a “breath of fresh air” as we once again use “air dry” clay to make usable art: “under the sea” bowl, fiesta animals, bird planters and more. Clay is a wonderful way to express you in nature and art. Instructor: Jamey Crider

Clermont: Kids’ College 2018Art: Christmas in July Sleigh bells ring, are you listening….why wait? Come enjoy your favorite season of the year by making snowmen, reindeers and tree ornaments like never before. We’ll make each day a celebration with crafts, fun and maybe Christmas songs!! Art: Neon PaintingsStudents will explore the use of neon paints and create a variety of paintings and other painted neon items. These images will glow when viewed with black lights. Subject matters will be based on personal student interests. A variety of materials will be available so that the older students can work at a higher level and with appropriate materials. Instructor: Cara Sanderlin

Art: The Art of Zentangle The art of Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create art using structured patterns. It increases focus and creativity by using simple deliberate strokes which build on each other in beautiful, mesmerizing, and surprising ways. For beginners to advanced level artists. Instructor: Danielle Bowen

Babysitting, Earning and Learning Easy Snacks Grades 5-9 As you focus on basic childcare techniques, you will learn how to feed, diaper and bathe a baby. The class will focus on information needed to become a responsible babysitter. You will gain useful tips on how to acquire the necessary information needed from prospective clients. You will also make some nutritious and fun snacks as well as go over basic infant/toddler CPR techniques. Instructor: Stephanie Henry

Balloon Bonanza Everyone loves balloons! In this class you will enjoy team activities, individual competitions, learn different creations for balloons, create your own masterpieces and make fun designs! All with balloons! Instructor: Ty Ensor

Basketball (Outdoors) Grades 2-6 & Grades 5-9Learn the FUNdamentals of dribbling, passing, and shooting a basketball through daily drills, games and team competitions. Students will be grouped according to age, size, and ability and will train on a real outdoor basketball court. Coaches: Program 1, Jimmy Phillips; Program 2, Danielle Bowen; Programs 2 & 3, Kevin Frank

Baton TwirlingHave a fun and exciting time with baton twirling, flag batons, hoops and more. Students will have the opportunity to learn a complete routine and perform in front of an audience, in just eight days! Batons will be provided, or students may order their own baton for $20 at the first class. Come have a blast with our newest tricks and routines! Instructor: Emily Pelton

Bead Bonanza Expand your artistic ability with intricate details using Perler Beads to create endless fun. Use patterns, designs or come up with something on your own to create key-chains, earrings, 3-dimensional objects, dream catchers, and so much more! Be inspired to create your next Perler Bead project on themed days or use your imagination to make something unique….the options are endless! Instructor: Stephanie Henry

Beading: To Bead or Not To Bead Welcome to the wonderful world of beads. During this course you will have the opportunity to complete projects like pins, frames, table weights, bookmarks and you will even customize your very own unique flip flops. You will also be introduced to fuse beads and their multiple options and designs. Get ready to BEAD yourself!! Instructor: Enriqueta Salvatierra

Board Games/Family FunLong before there was the Xbox or Play Station, even before Nintendo, there were board games to keep kids occupied and entertained. Thankfully, board games have survived the onslaught of computer games and gaming systems. Board games let families and friends spend quality time together to get to know each other. Board games are universal and timeless in their appeal, with each culture creating games to unwind and relax; play and learn how to play different board games with us! Instructor: Larry Edwards

Build a Blog Grades 4-9 If you have never tried designing and creating your OWN website, then this class is for you! We will start from scratch learning how to choose a website names, designs and layouts. We will discuss all the things you can blog about, and learn how to make the perfect blog post to share with your family and friends. Instructor: Kimberly Patton

Cooking: Creature Creations Ever had a whale-wich? That’s a sandwich shaped like a whale. What else can you make with food? A witch with grape hair? A monster with green apple teeth? In this class, students will use yummy snacks to create fun, eye-catching creatures. We will take pictures of your creatures for your recipe book just before you enjoy the taste of your creatures. Cooking: No Bake Fun in the Kitchen No-bake recipes provide a perfect introduction to the kitchen. Students will work together in a fun, hands-on environment. This class will empower kids to learn and prepare yummy snacks and treats for themselves and the whole family. Instructor: Toni Beckett

Cooking: What’s For Breakfast? Come join us for breakfast! Get the day off to a sunny start with breakfast favorites. Kids will love this action filled (and messy in a fun way!) class. Students will learn basic cooking techniques and how to stay safe in the kitchen while preparing various breakfast recipes. We will make pancakes, egg creations, French toast and more! Clermont: Kids’ College 2018Creative Writing: Express Yourself Grades 4-9 Writing is about showing who YOU are. If you like writing, expressing who YOU are, or would like to learn a thing or two about writing, then this is the class to take. This class is all about writing in different ways, NOT just the standard essay. We will dive into the multiple ways writing helps you clear your head and the different forms it can take. Students have the opportunity to explore the art of writing in its most basic form to learn how to express themselves. Instructor: Danielle Bowen

Creative Writing: Spur your Imagination Grades 2-5 Have you ever tried to write something creative, but you just don’t know where to start? In this class we will be using some creative writing activities to get your juices flowing. Musical Poetry, Grab Bag writing, and even Art to spur our imaginations. Instructor: Danielle Bowen

Creative Writing: The ART of Writing Grades 2-5 Writing is an ART and ART is writing using pictures and colors! If you like to write and draw and color and craft then please join us as we unleash our creative spirits. In this class, students will look at and create images and works of art for creative writing inspiration. We will tap into our inner creativeness, exploring poetry, especially concrete and free verse. Creative writing does not always have to be expressed in written story form. Students will also explore the use and idea of “poetic justice” as a way of expression and creativity. Instructor: Jennifer Jones

Cross Stitch 101 Students will learn the basics of cross stitch to begin creating art with stitches! Learn this traditional craft in a fun and supportive environment. No experience necessary! Students will bring home projects they have made in class to include projects such as bookmarks, cards and more. Instructor: Toni Beckett

Dance: Around the World Take a trip around the world through the movement and fun of dance! Explore various cultures and some of their traditional dances in a fresh and kid-friendly way. Learn dances from Ireland, Russia, Africa, South America, and more. At the end of the session, students will put on a recital for family and friends showcasing all they have learned about these cultures and dances. Instructor: Kaitlin Baxter

Detective Crime Scene Would you like to search for evidence, gather clues, and discover how science can help solve a mystery? From dusting for fingerprints to analyzing handwriting, this class will give you a first-hand look at how detectives and forensic scientists use science to solve real-life crimes. Make a plaster cast of a shoe, identify lip prints left on a glass, examine hair and clothing fibers, and practice chemistry to identify mystery substances. In no time at all, you’ll be thinking like a detective and performing experiments like a real forensic scientist! Instructor: Vilma Ramirez

Eco AccessoriesMake beautiful, original accessories using eco-friendly materials! Seashells, bottoms, paper and everyday objects that will create truly unique and one-of-a-kind pieces. Imagine the compliments you’ll get when you use your handmade accessories! You will have the coolest accessories and you made them yourself! We’ll make necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants, and some things to use around the home. Instructor: Enriqueta Salvatierra

Edible Math Grades 3-6 Math can be fun but can be even better when using food. We will learn about shapes, fractions, area, volume, percentages, measurement, graphing and more, using pretzels, chocolate bars, Cheez-its and other food items that we will then get to eat. Come join us and improve what you know about math, have fun creating shapes to learn, and enjoy eating the snacks. Instructor: Hector Davila

Engineering: The Great Challenge Grades 3-9Do you like to compete against others in creative engineering challenges? Join us for some scientific “outside the box” thinking and creating that will put you in the Winner’s Circle. In this class, you will build and design towers, bridges, and vehicles that will be put to the test. Who can create the boat that will hold the most golf balls without sinking? Exploring History through Art Get ready to go on this adventure where you will use your creativity to express your understanding of US history events. Fashion Design Grades 5-9 Do you enjoy fashion? Are you talented in putting together outfits? Then Fashion Design is for you! We will design, draw and create outfits together, then display them for all to see. Instructor: Jennifer Jones

Fiction Fan or Fan Fiction? Grades 4-9 Do you love creating stories? Do you want to write fiction but you are not sure where to start? Have you ever read a book and wanted more stories about the characters? This is the class for you! We will be going through strategies of writing fiction stories and how to write fan fiction with plenty of writing time for you to begin your next bestseller! Instructor: Danielle Bowen

Clermont: Kids’ College 2018Full STEAM Ahead Incorporate the arts into your study of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics with STEAM. Stretch your creativity as you make paper airplanes, manipulate tan grams, put together a jigsaw puzzle, make a space-craft lander and a catapult. Instructor: Marni Whitehead

Game Shows Grades 3-9Join in on the action! Participate as a game show contestant or team member and compete for prizes. You and your opponent have 60 seconds to complete a challenge, which increases in difficulty as the game progresses. Will you succeed or be eliminated when you play “Minute to Win It”? Are you able to price items, gain points and have the opportunity to pick door number 1, 2, or 3 during the game, “The Price is Right?” Can you or your classmate answer 1st to 5th grade questions in the game of, “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” We will also play other games, such as, “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”, “Hollywood Game Night”, and “What’s my Line?” Don’t miss this exhilarating experience! Guitar, Beginning Grades 2-6If you’ve ever wondered what it is like to play guitar, now is your chance to find out! This class is the perfect place to start your musical journey! Learn how to read guitar tablature, play simple melodies, and meet the challenge to strum some guitar chords. You may bring your own guitar or rent a guitar at www.musicafterschool.org to take home and use in class during the 2 week session. Rental guitars will be handed out at the first class. Harry Potter: Prefects in Training, Level II This class is designed as a second level Harry Potter course. Heavy emphasis will be placed on the original J.K. Rowling text. Although it is not a requirement, it is strongly recommended that students have read all seven volumes and have taken the Hogwarts class prior to registering for this advanced course. Activities will include character role-playing, intermediate to advanced trivia and lots of in-depth Harry Potter fun. Interest in Pinterest Students will explore and create Pinterest projects with guidance from the instructor. Pinterest is a great source for creative ideas, so this class allows the students to choose and produce the projects that they are excited about. Kickball Grades 2-6 & Grades 5-9Students will learn basic skills to be successful in the game of kickball. Students will learn skills and play lead up games each day putting their skills learned into action. Each day will focus on coeducational kickball games with instruction. Lego’s Creations Grades 2-5Become a Lego Brick Master! You’ll learn techniques to help build cool contraptions and work in teams to construct daily projects, like cars, planes, forts, and buildings! Mix it Up with Yoga & Pilates Students will learn warm up stretching and breathing techniques followed by a combination of Yoga and Pilates moves. Sand Pit VolleyballWhat is the best way to play volleyball? By playing it in a sand pit, of course!!!! Our goal is to help you learn more about volleyball. You will learn to control and move your body in a balanced position quickly and efficiently. You will also learn how to perform simple strength and flexibility exercises to begin conditioning your body for volleyball so you can better enjoy it. Our goal is help you learn more about volleyball skills and game situations. You will learn how to dig, set, serve and spike the ball. These are the fundamental skills of the game. Scrapbooking Scrapbooking is all about getting those photos out of shoeboxes and off the computer into albums where they can be seen and shared. The papers and accessories now available give us many creative options for doing more than just filing photos in an album – scrapbooking is a creative hobby! No experience or expertise is required – it’s as simple as cutting and gluing. Printed pictures are required. All you need are a few basic materials and some ideas. Sign Language: The Silent Voice Have you ever wished you could communicate with a deaf person or talk to a friend and only both of you know what you are talking about? Well, wish no more!! Join me as we have fun learning the foundational skills you will need to communicate such as the alphabet, numbers and fun games using sign language. Spirit: CheerleadingDo you like to cheer and learn dance routines? If so, then this class is for you! Spirit Class is for all boys and girls who are interested in cheering, dancing, and pom-pom routines. (Cheerleaders are encouraged to bring their own pom-poms to the class.) You will learn to stretch correctly, lead a crowd in a cheer, basic dance moves and how to be a leader. A spirit award will be given each day to the MVSL (Most Valuable Spirit Leader) and a performance held at the end of class. Starfleet Academy: Star Trek Experience Grades 3-9The year is 2285 and Starfleet Academy is seeking boys and girls who are interested in learning about space and space exploration to come out and join the Academy. Students will be introduced to Starfleet Command, study the galaxies, learn the basics of starship construction and control and be instructed in leadership techniques. If you’ve ever dreamt about going “where no one has gone before,” this is the first step. Students who have already graduated from the Academy may return to continue their training as Starfleet officers. Instructor: Allen Venezio

Taekwondo Grades 2-5 & Grades 5-9 This class is about high energy training that’s very exciting and simple to learn. Students will learn safety awareness and build self-confidence while learning how to deal with their fears. Students will be taught techniques to handle escalating bully and stranger situations. Team Handball Learn the fast paced, exciting game that’s played in the Olympics. Students will learn and incorporate skills used in basketball, football, volleyball, and soccer in the game of team handball. Handball is a fun team sport, where a team works together and tries to throw a ball into a net guarded by a goalie. Students will practice and play in activities to be successful in the popular European sport while having fun! Instructor: Ty Ensor

Trash Can Baseball The students will learn how to incorporate math skills as they enjoy a game of TRASH CAN BASEBALL. While having fun playing baseball indoors without bats and balls but by using bean bags and garbage cans, we will incorporate statistics, probability, fractions, and mental math skills. Every student will be tabulating runs, hits, RBIs, doubles, singles and batting averages. This class will be held indoors but will go outside on Thursdays to play whiffle ball as a wrap up each week if weather permits. Join the game and have a blast. Instructor: Larry Edwards

Trash to Treasure: Eco-Art Grades 3-9Did you know that you make beautiful and useful creations with stuff that you throw away? Reduce, Reuse and Recycle by learning how to make your masterpiece and keeping it from being garbage. You will also learn the responsibility of helping the Earth by doing so. Make wonderful projects such as wind chimes, bowls, sun catchers, denim bags, and more. You will see endless possibilities on recycled creations. Instructor: Heidi Cook

Wii Challenge – Get Fit Students will take part in an interactive new way of exercise and learning that is engaging for all video game lovers. Whether you like sports, video games or both, this is the class for you. Wii Fit will focus on strength, balance and stretching.
