Friday is an advanced level class geared towardsthe development of songs and dances used forpublic performances, and competitions. A fastpaced class requiring a strong dancebackground. Dancers undergo intense physicalendurance training with the possibility of

February CurriculumThis months curriculum for TUE/WED night classes: We will betidying up and getting moredetailed in our Samoan Siva andSasa. We will push our basics fromlast year to the next level. We will

have the students use creativity andteach them how to interpret hulamovements by having them helpcreate their next hula Do the hula

    by Na Leo Pilimehana.

This monthscurriculum for FRInight classes: We willbe working onperformance

expressions and stagepresence as that is one majorweakness noticed in thePerformance Team last year! We willcontinue learning more Maori thismonth with the long pois. We willalso be working on a female hakafrom Ngati Porou Ka panapana.

    Grading for Levels

This year we are going to givestudents the OPTION of grading forlevels. This is NOT MANDATORY,but offered for those wanting to takePolynesian Dance more seriously. We will have these grading sessionstwice this year (end of 1st term &end of 3rd term) to ensure everyonewho wants the opportunity toprogress & work hard can move

    forward in

    their trainingand skilllevels. Wewill givecurriculums

out about 4 weeks prior to the weekof grading to ensure everyoneUNDERSTANDS exactly what theywill be graded on in each level andhow the points will be awarded. If

you feel you are able to grade for ahigher level, you MUST pass allprevious levels before hand (this canbe done in the same session). Please

keep in mind that we are going to betaking this VERY seriously, and youwill NOT PASS unless you meet aminimum requirement ofaccumulated points with regards toPractical (dancing technique) andTheory (knowledge). Once you passinto a particular level, you will then

be required to purchase and wearthe appropriate uniform color. Forexample if you pass a certain levelyou will then need to order a redHeilani top and red pareu, and willbe the red team.

Costumes for 2010This year we will be having thePerformance Team start purchasing

their own implements and TahitianCostumes. The girls have workedvery hard and we feel they are readyto start learning some new things. We will be teaching HawaiianImplement numbers starting in the2nd term and we will be teachingthe girls to make their own TahitianCostumes in the 3rd term. Weunderstand that these things costmoney, but feel that the girls

deserve to start doing more & needthe supplies to do so. You can see

the cost of theHawaiianImplements inUSD on page 4,and the TahitianCostumes will

probably be around the $300 mark.We havent posted where to order

that from yet, as we are still trying tofind the best quality materials at themost cost effective prices. The girlswill be making their own costumesto OFF-SET the cost of LABOUR! Sokeep in mind for costumes andimplements that will last alifetime - if cared forproperly - this is a goodinvestment!REMEMBER - this is

optional, but in order toparticipate and performthese items - you musthave them!
