Hurricane Relief
In this busy holiday season, it’s easy to forget that there is still great
need for hurricane relief in the country:
United Orthodox Synagogue (former Bayit Rabbi, Barry
Gelman) has setup a fund through the Rabbi's Discretionary Ac-
count. Donate online at https://www.uosh.org/payment.php.
You can also make out a check payable to the Rabbinic
Discretionary Account and write “Houston” or “Irma” in the memo.
Natural disasters bring out the best and worst in people. Please make
sure to direct your support to organizations and efforts that you can
verify. New reports are already circulating about opportunists seeking
to capitalize on our desire to help with scams and hoaxes.

THE BAYIT The Hebrew Institute of Riverdale – The Bayit – is an open Orthodox synagogue serving the entire Jewish community by warmly embracing all
Jews, regardless of affiliation, commitment, orientation or background. It is affectionately known as the "Bayit," which is a home – a place of love
and welcome. We are known nationally for bringing spirituality into the synagogue; activism on behalf of the oppressed; youth and teen
engagement; learning programs; and work on behalf of the elderly, the homebound, and those with developmental and physical challenges.
If these words resonate with you, if our Bayit has touched your life, then please join our growing membership.
SCENTS AND SENSITIVITY: As we dress up and accessorize for Shabbat and Yom Tov, we know
that many members use personal fragrances (perfume, cologne,
deodorants) to enhance their Shabbat experience. Please be aware
that fragrances can be harmful to the health of our Bayit family, and in
recent times, a number of congregants have shared with our staff that they often experience respiratory or allergic reactions to the
fragrances. Please consider reducing or eliminating your fragrance
use when you are in the Bayit.

means that in spite of the disruption, you understand and respect what it is we are trying to accomplish. It is as important a learning
experience for us as it is for you. BE"H we will never have to do this
for real; but hopefully we will be prepared.
