Introduction

Scope

This document covers the standard capability program of Industeel France (Châteauneuf plant) for carbon and alloy steels used in pressure vessel fabrication or steel construction.

This is not intended to be a complete guide. Other grades, formats and dimensions can be supplied on

request. More stringent requirements may also be met – feel free to contact us.

Steel Grades and Dimensions

Grades have been grouped firstly by applications, such as “Steels for pressure vessel fabrication for elevated temperature service”. Within a given application, steel grades are listed according to their designation in international standards (ASTM, ASME, EN series) or classification societies.

Standard plate dimensions are given by plate size cards depending on:

- The steel delivery condition: normalized (Table N), or quenched and tempered (Table QT);

- The application: a specific size card for the construction application (Table Construction).

All dimensions and unit weight listed above are approximate maximums that can be agreed on a case

by case study.

Standard typical dimensions and unit weight are provided by plate size cards. Actual plate sizes depend on the combination of length, width and thickness as well as material specification.

Typical minimum plate thickness is 80 mm. Thinner plates can be supplied on request.

Steels for Pressure Vessel Fabrication

Industeel France (Châteauneuf Plant) provides a comprehensive range of high quality materials dedicated to the fabrication of pressure vessels:

Steels for elevated temperature service Steels for moderate temperature service Steels for sour service Steels for low temperature service

Optimized branded steel grades have been developed in order to meet the most stringent requirements:

CromElso™ for elevated temperature service: low alloy steels specially designed for the fabrication of pressure equipment operating at high temperatures, including in hydrogen service.

CarElso™ for moderate temperature service: carbon-manganese steels designed with reduced carbon content in order to provide excellent weldability and toughness.

CarElso™ HIC for sour service: normalized or quenched and tempered carbon-manganese steels that provide excellent resistance to wet H2S cracking such as HIC.

SuperElso® for sour service: high strength quenched and tempered steels that provide excellent resistance to wet H2S cracking combined to weight savings thanks to higher tensile properties.

Steels for Steel Construction

Many industrial sectors use mechanical parts that require steels with special properties: strength, high impact properties at low temperature, weldability, formability or large sizes.

Industeel France Châteauneuf Plant can provide heavy plates with very large dimensions and high unit

weight. Special dimensions of our plates avoid additional welding and/or assembly operations.

A wide range of steels according to international standards are available. We can also develop and produce tailor-made, innovative high-performance steels.

Please visit http://industeel.arcelormittal.com for more information on our steel solutions for structural applications.

Tolerances and Surface Quality

Geometrical Tolerances Permissible variations in thickness

Following standards are available:

- ASTM A20 / ASME SA-20; - EN 10029 (restricted; see below).

Only the following tolerances can be provided according to EN 10029:

Thickness t ≤ 250 mm 250 < t < 400 mm t = 400 mm

Permissible variation (EN10029)

3.2 mm 3.6 mm 5 mm

Example for a 100mm-thick plate: 100 mm -0/+3.2mm or 100 mm +/-1.6mm.

Permissible variations in length and width

Following standards are available:

- ASTM A20 / ASME SA-20; - EN 10029.

Please contact us for more restrictive tolerances.

Flatness Tolerances

Thickness Flatness

t < 250 mm 3 mm under 1m-length rule

250 ≤ t ≤ 400 mm 5 mm under 1m-length rule

t > 400 mm 6 mm under 1m-length rule

Please contact us for other flatness requirements.
