HEALTHY MEANS?
MESSAGE TO PARENTS AND CARERSPHSE LESSON
Personal, social and health education, or PSHE, aims to give children the knowledge, skills and understanding to lead confident, healthy and independent lives.
In today’s lesson we look at healthy living.
Please follow the slides and during the lesson your child will produce 4 commitments to write down on how to be as healthy as possible!

WHAT DOES BEING HEALTHY MEAN?
Have a think of things you need to do to be healthy?
Use the pictures to help you if you need it!
WHAT DOES BEING HEALTHY MEAN?
Being healthy means looking after
yourself by:
• Eating healthy food
• Exercising
There are other things we can do as well, such as brushing our teeth, being with friends and family and getting plenty of sleep.
These will help us be as happy as possible.
Today we are going to focus on eating healthy food and exercising.
WHAT IS HEALTHY FOOD?
Healthy food
Write down Healthy food and Unhealthy food in your book.
Then try to think of 4 things that are healthy and 4 things that are unhealthy.
Unhealthy food
DID YOU INCLUDE THESE?
Healthy food
• Fruit
• Vegetables
• Sources of protein like fish, lentils, beans and non-fatty meats
• Eggs, cheese and milk
Unhealthy food
• Chocolate
• Crisps
• Chips
• Cake
• Sweets
CAN WE EAT UNHEALTHY FOOD?
• We can eat some unhealthy food but not too much.
• Eating too much unhealthy food is not good for our bodies.
• We should try to eat lots of healthy food.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO EAT HEALTHY FOOD?
• Eating healthy food helps us to feel good.
• Eating healthy food stops us from being ill.
• Eating healthy food can help us to grow up fit and strong.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO EAT HEALTHY FOOD?
• In your book write down something you will do to try to make sure you have a healthy diet in the next 2 weeks!
• In 2 weeks we will be checking to see if you have kept to your idea.
• My example: I will make sure that I eat an apple and a banana every day!
• I will not eat crisps every day – only 3 times a week – that will be tricky for me!
EXERCISE CAN HELP YOU TO STAY HEALTHY TOO.
HOW DOES EXERCISE HELP US TO STAY HEALTHY?
• Exercise helps our heart to beat faster and pumps
blood around our body.
• Exercise helps us to burn fat.
• Exercise makes us feel good.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO EXERCISE?
• At the current time it is difficult to exercise as we normally would.
• Can you think of ways you can still exercise everyday?
• Write down 2 ideas in your book.

Remember to go for a walk outside with your family too. It is good to get fresh air and enjoy the sunshine!
Try to keep to your 2 ideas and in 2 weeks we will see if you have kept them.
My ideas are to go running 3 times a week and to not play computer games for more than 1 hour without doing some movement, like tidying my room!
