WHERE’S THE INNOVATION?
2
• Neil Armstrong landed on the moon 47 years ago
• We Google the majority of human knowledge over 20 billion times a day—in less than a second each time
• We regularly look at detailed images of the inside of the human body without pulling out a knife (and camera)
• My smartphone knows exactly where I am and where the closest Mexican food is
• At any given time, over one million people are flying through the air at high speeds

WHAT DO WE REALLY WANT?
Computers should be able to connect patient records . . .
– Easily finding and matching the same patient
– Compiling and standardizing results in a ‘smart’ way
– Without me having to do any work or spending money
– Only allowing the rightpeople to the right data at the right time

IT IS NOT JUST INTEROPERABILITY . . .

What can I expect from:
• EMR usability
• Seamless enterprise-wide
business intelligence
• Wearable devices
• Computer assisted coding
• Natural language processing
• Referral management

FIELD WIDE OPEN
“We are using several different tools. Humedica,
with their recent upgrade, is more robust. They
now have predictive analytics for COPD, diabetes,
and coronary heart failure.
We have Epic as our EMR, and we pull data out
of there for population management. We also use
Epic Clarity for registries.
We are pulling from several different areas.
We pull financial information from Crimson by The
Advisory Board so we can look at our patients who
have been discharged from the hospital and get
them in for follow-up care.
We will be using Medventive with our clinically-
integrated network for data aggregation. We have
people that are out on different EMRs. They are
not all on Epic. We are going to have to gather all
that data together, and that is what they are
helping us with.”
