The New Scientific Collaboration Support Program provides financing for new scientific projects jointly developed by French and Canadian teams that have never worked together before. A new investigator is defined as a researcher who has held a full time research appointment (i.e.: faculty appointment providing eligibility to apply for grants and/or supervise trainees), for a period of 0 to 60 months.

The objective of the New Investigator Salary Award program is to provide outstanding new investigators with the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their independence in initiating and conducting health research through provision of a contribution to their salary.

McMaster University International Initiatives Micro Fund (IIMF)

The International Initiatives Micro Fund (IIMF) is intended to provide seed-funding for first-time international research contacts or initiatives, typically originated by individual faculty members. The funds are aimed at reducing financial barriers to the formation of new partnerships and at kick-starting joint international research activities. Ten proposals were funded in the first round of the IIMF which was concluded earlier this year. Individual investments are limited to $5000. It is expected that ten projects will be selected to receive funding. The application process is simple, requiring only a one-page description of the project and the intended use of the funds. Proposals should be accompanied by the applicant’s CV (NSERC Form 100, Canadian Common CV or equivalent). Faculty approval is required.The application process is now open and proposals will be accepted at any time as long as funds are available. Preference will be given to first-time applicants. Hamilton Health Sciences – New Investigator Fund

Call for applications for the New Investigator Fund now open. The competition closes October 1, 2015 at 4:00pm. Kidney Foundation of Canada – Allied Health Research Grant The purpose of the Allied Health Research Grant is to encourage research relevant to clinical practice in the areas of nephrology and organ donation. Preference will be given to applications submitted by allied health professionals.

The award is for up to two years, to a maximum of $50,000/year. There must be a clearly demonstrated relevance of the project and its outcomes to the Mission of The Kidney Foundation. Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Ontario The Research Project Grant Program funds laboratory and pre-clinical investigations, clinical research, psychosocial, cancer control, survivorship, quality of life, and other breast cancer research projects. Proposed studies may include participatory, community-based methodologies. Funding requested for each project may not exceed $150,000 per year and $450,000 in total. Individual projects may have up to five years to complete.

Prostate Cancer Canada – Rising Stars in Prostate Cancer Research

Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC) is offering a limited number of Rising Star in Prostate Cancer Research Awards, which provide salary and research support for outstanding researchers initiating a career as independent investigators in prostate cancer research. These awards provide the opportunity for research scientists within the first 5 years of their first academic or research appointment to develop and demonstrate independence in initiating and conducting prostate cancer research. J.P. Bickell Foundation Medical Research Program

Grants are made to assist biomedical scientists of various departments and faculties in Ontario universities, hospitals and scientific institutions concerned with medical research. Medical institutes within a university or hospital must be approved to apply independently; otherwise they must apply through the university or hospital research office. Independent research institutes may apply directly. CRITERIA: The Foundation will use the following criteria in assessing applications: 1. Projects must have scientific merit and be primarily medical in nature. 2. New researchers seeking start up grants receive priority. 3. New, innovative projects receive priority. 4. Applications submitted should most suitably fit the institutions' requirements and the Foundation's criteria. 5. Supplemental grants may only be made for equipment essential to the described project where main source funding for equipment is unobtainable. For equipment costing more than $10,000 indicate the use, extent of use, availability of similar equipment and the current operating support (see item B{c} on application form). 6. Grants are usually within the $50,000 to $65,000 range. 7. Grants are not made to cover deficits, or to supplement a project grant from another granting agency (except for essential equipment).

Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program (CCHCSP) – Postdoctoral Award

The Postdoctoral Award is directed at candidates with a health professional degree and a prior Ph.D. who wish to extend their research competence in child and youth health research. Examples include a M.D. with a Ph.D. acquired before clinical training and who needs a postdoctoral research experience or a Ph.D.-Psychologist who requires additional research training before embarking on a career in child/youth health research. McMaster University DeGroote Fellowship Awards The Michael G. DeGroote Fellowship Awards are an opportunity for excellent postdoctoral candidates to pursue top-level research training. First awarded in 2008, the awards provide funding to research-intensive individuals looking to further their academic career in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University. Each award provides non-renewable funding of $50,000 for one year for successful applicants. The funding is comprised of $40,000 from the Michael G. DeGroote Health Sciences Development Fund and $10,000 contributed by the applicant’s supervisor. Two categories of awards are offered: the Michael G. DeGroote Fellowship Award in Basic Biomedical Science and the Michael G. DeGroote Fellowship Award in Clinical Research. Candidates conducting basic science research will be eligible for the Basic Biomedical Science Fellowship Award and those pursuing clinical research will be eligible for the Clinical Research Fellowship Award. Canadian Hemophilia Society – Dream of a Cure Research Program

For Dream of a Cure, individual grants valued at $75,000 per year and per project will be awarded to researchers for a maximum of $150,000 which can be expended over 2 or 3 years. If a two year award is provided, the second year of funding is dependent on evidence of progress as described in the required progress report.
