    The Curtin University Health Promotion short

    courses are suitable for those already working in the

    health sector, those wanting to move into this area

    and those wanting to incorporate health promotion

    principles into their role.

    Our courses will enable you to understand the role

    and importance of health promotion and the broader

    concept of health within a community and nationalsetting. All of our courses are informed by a social

    determinants of health approach.

    HEALTH PROMOTION SHORT COURSES AT CURTIN

    The following short courses are offered regularly for

    professionals interested in increasing their health

    promotion knowledge and skills.

    1. Planning, implementing and evaluatinghealth promotion interventions 4 days )This four day course aims to provide you with the

    skills needed to plan, implement and evaluate a

    health promotion program. You will be introduced to

    relevant health behaviour theories and health promotion

    frameworks.

    You will work in small groups to develop a plan for a

    program of your choice. This course is highly

    interactive, you will be given the opportunity to discuss

    health issues with industry experts, academics and

    course participants.

    This course will enable you to build health

    promotion skills and knowledge quickly in a

    stimulating environment. Participants will be led

    through an engaging program using discussion,

    lectures and group work.

    Day 1

    Introduction to health promotionSocial determinants of health

    Health promotion planning cycle

    Planning and evaluation frameworks and models

    Needs assessment and setting program goals

    Day 2

    Understanding health and behaviour

    Theories for health promotion

    Writing program objectives

    Selecting health promotion strategies

    Day 3

    Evaluating health promotion interventions

    Defining program effectiveness

    Evaluation approaches

    Day 4

    Effective partnerships

    Program sustainability and capacity building

    Influencing policy

    Presentation of project plans and discussion

    2. Planning, implementing andevaluating health promotioninterventions 12 weeks online )This flexible online course aims to provide you

    with the skills needed to plan, implement and

    evaluate a health promotion program. You will be

    introduced to relevant health behaviour theories and

    health promotion frameworks as well as approaches

    to evaluation.

    A range of learning strategies ( web links,

    podcasts, video clips ) , learning activities and

    worksheets are available for each module. An

    online networking forum will be available to

    communicate with other students.

    You will plan a health promotion intervention of

    your choice with the assistance of a tutor who will

    guide your learning. At the end of the course you

    will meet with your tutor to discuss your project

    plan. You should allow 3-5 hours' per week for

    your studies.

    The online health promotion training course is

    offered twice a year. There are 8 flexible learningmodules to be completed over 12 weeks.

    Cost per person: $750

    Dates: March 18 and August 19, 2013

    3. Organisation specific trainingIf you have between 12-20 staff who require health

    promotion training or would like to focus on

    particular health interventions or target groups, an

    organisation specific training course, held at your

    work site, may be a cost effective option for you to

    consider.

    The scheduled courses outlined above can be

    adapted to meet the needs of your organisation and

    specific content courses can be developed as
