will help with academic detailing with
providers around prescription drug
abuse, the PMP system, and follow up
to preventive care. This has not been
done yet with this group so we look
forward to the impact that it can bring
to Garfield County.
The Health Planning Committee chair
Janet Cordell was instrumental in get-
ting the Community Clinic up and go-
ing several years ago. Since then the
clinic has grown and taken on different
projects and partnerships. One of those
projects is to help women in the need of
mammograms get the care that they
need for early detection. Through a
partnership with Oklahoma Project
Woman, the clinic has referred over 30
women from Garfield County to the
program where they are provided free
mammograms, diagnostic procedures
and surgical services for Oklahomans of
any age with no health insurance and
limited financial resources.
Through partnerships in Garfield Coun-
ty, the coalition has worked toward
making Garfield healthier, other pro-
jects the coalition was involved in this
year were:

The Health Planning Committee is a sub-
committee of the Enid Metropolitan Area
Human Service Commission. The priori-
ties of the Health Planning Committee
include the following: MAPP (Mobilizing
for Action through Planning and Partner-
ships), Dental Assistance, Mental Health
Issues, Tobacco Control, and Physical
Fitness and Nutrition.
The Coalition has been focusing on the
completion of the Community Health
Improvement Plan (CHIP) in order to
plan strategically around the needs of the
community.
The top five elements of health were iden-
tified for Garfield County. They include:
Access to Healthcare and Mental
Health
Childhood Health and Infant Mortali-
ty
Tobacco, Alcohol and Other Drugs
Chronic Disease
Physical Activity and Nutrition
(Obesity)
The Coalition, along with the community,
has been working throughout the year to
address these issues already.
This year the coalition and partners in Gar-
field County was instrumental in the plan-
ning stages of OKMOM and actually get-
ting it to be housed this year in Enid. This
event brought several thousands of dollars
in dental care to the area at no cost to the
citizens. It was all voluntary and was a
great show of community partnerships.
To continue their efforts around dental
care the Coalition was also instrumental in
getting the dental van and providers to
Enid every 3 months to provide the neces-
sary dental care to those that needed it.
Every time the van was in Enid this year it
severed around 30 people each time. Being
able to provide the necessary dental care to
these patients is not only beneficial to their
dental health but also their overall health as
well.
This year, Garfield County Health Plan-
ning Committee became a Certified Health
Improvement Organization (CHIO). This
will give the coalition the opportunity to
apply for grant funding to work specifical-
ly with primary care providers on preven-
tion efforts in the community. The grant
