WHY?• Increasing Opportunities for Health and Medical Careers• PSAT Data (57/228 students selected Health Careers as their
field of study in college)• PreMed, Nursing, Dental Hygiene, PreVet, Sports
Medicine/Physical Therapy, Animal Studies, etc.• Division Goal:
• Prepare students for success in a Global Community• Establish Centers of Excellence
• As part of Governor McDonnell’s “Opportunity to Learn” agenda, he includes a funding initiative that will provide first year start-up funding for Health Sciences academies.
Mission Statement
• The Monticello High School Health and Medical Sciences Academy’s mission is to empower students to utilize 21st century skills while exploring health science career opportunities. The program will provide students a foundation for post-secondary education or workforce readiness in certified health related professions. Students will explore core content with technology through integrated projects, case studies, and focused learning experiences.
Goals
• Students will be exposed to and explore health-related career opportunities.
• Students will build a strong foundation and understanding of Anatomy and Physiology.
• Students engage in a collaborative learning environment with students who share similar career interests.
• The Academy utilizes community partnerships to design curriculum that support skills needed for student success in health related careers.

Selection Process• Selection Committee Consisting of Monticello Faculty,
Members of the Advisory Board, and County Employees• Considering information from
• Transcripts,• Work ethic,• Recommendation Letters,• Activities/Awards, and• Essays.
Deadlines
• Applications are due January 18.• Admissions timeline is posted on the webpage.• Student letters will be sent the week of March 1st.
Notification of acceptance will be sent both electronically and in writing.
