The comments that the PE department have received from players, tournament officials and spectators alike have all been positive and complimentary...they have done a brilliant job.
BBC Look North’s reporter, Tanya Arnold, presented her report from the Club on Tuesday afternoon...some of the ball girls and boys were in the crowd and interviewed. Watch the clip below...the report starts at 20 minutes 17 seconds.

The dangers of young people sexting has been in the news this week with child protection officers reporting that they are investigating an average of one case involving sexting every day (figures from the UK's National Crime Agency). The term sexting refers to sending nude or explicit images of yourself on social media. A campaign is being launched to give children and their parents advice if a child becomes involved in sexting.
Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) have launched the campaign to help parents talk to their children about the dangers and risks they expose themselves to when they share images online. The new resource is called 'Nude Selfies: What parents and carers need to know'. The films cover why young people send nude selfies, how to talk to your child about them, when should you be worried and when to get help. The links below will take you to 4 videos on YouTube. Click on each image to play the video. The booklet on the right has been pulled together by the South West Grid for Learning and is another great resource.

Challenge and Celebration Week 2015 As you know, Challenge and Celebration Week takes place from Monday 13th July to Friday 17th July. Information booklets have been emailed home detailing all the arrangements for the week whether students are participating in the ’Big Mix’, ’The Big Trip’, The ’Big Outdoors’ or staying in school. Whatever they will be doing, we hope they find the week to be an enjoyable experience and a purposeful end to what is the last ‘full week’ of the school year.
Students should know where they need to be on Monday 13th July and what the week holds for them! Our school twitter feed will be full of photos and news of the week @ilkleygrammar #IGSCandC15

We are looking for the best inspirational quotes that our students can find that tie in (see what we did there) with our key words for each year group. So for example one of the Year 7 words is inquisitive, they could find a quote relating to this. Students can enter their quote by emailing their words of wisdom to: [email protected], including the key word used, the quote and the author, the deadline is next Friday 26th June!
‘Necessity is the mother of invention.’

Congratulations to Alex Booth (9HM) who took part in the Sam Houghton Mountain Bike Challenge in the Lake District at the weekend. The challenge is a timed mountain bike ride that starts and finishes at the Mill Yard, Staveley and covers Longsleddale, Kentmere and Troutbeck Valleys and takes in the Garburn Pass. It is organised in memory of Sam Houghton, a keen mountain biker who sadly lost his battle against cancer and died, aged only 22, in May 2006. It was a tough 25km mountain bike ride with 700m of climbing (and 700m of descending!) on steep, loose and rocky trails and technical single-track. Alex finished the ride in under 3 hours. All proceeds from the event go to Cancer Research UK.
Congratulations to our Year 7 rounders team who competed in the Bradford Schools’ Rounders Final on Wednesday night. Career of the Week: Adult Nurse There are also branches of nursing covering Children, Learning Disability and Mental Health. See the Medicine and Nursing section on the National Careers Service website.
The Work: adult nurses check patients’ progress and decide with doctors what care to give. They may also advise and support patients and their relatives. As an adult nurse, the practical care you give could include:
Checking temperatures Measuring blood pressure and breathing rate Helping doctors with physical examinations Giving drugs and injections Cleaning and dressing wounds Giving blood transfusions Using high-tech medical equipment
You could specialise in an area such as accident and emergency (A&E), cardiac rehabilitation, outpatients, neo-natal nursing and operating theatre work. As well as hospitals you could also work in the community, health centres, clinics or prisons. Entry Requirements: to qualify as an adult nurse you will need to study for a degree in Adult Nursing leading to registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council. To do a degree you will need at least five GCSEs at A* - C including Maths, English and Science or health related subject. Locally the Universities of Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds and Leeds Beckett University offer courses.
You will also need to pass occupational health checks and background checks by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). As an alternative to A’ Levels you could prepare for a nursing degree by doing an Apprenticeship in healthcare or by studying for a Level 3 Diploma in Health Studies; Craven, Bradford, Shipley and Leeds City College all offer these options. Training and Development: once you have started a nurse training programme you will divide your time between university, study and supervised work placement in hospitals and in the community. Most courses are three years full time and will include:
Foundations of theory and nursing practice Infection control Developing observation, communication and team working skills Medicine management Personal and public health awareness and promotion Acute and palliative care Professional standards and codes of practice Anatomy and physiology
Your progress through the course will be measured through a combination of coursework, assessment, exams and project work. By taking further study to Masters Degree level you may be able to apply for advanced nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist posts. Experience in these roles can lead to a nurse consultant job. Nurse consultants work directly and independently with patients, carry out research and deliver training.
Pay: nurses earn between £21K to £28K a year. Experienced nurses working as advanced practitioners, Clinical specialists or nurse team managers can earn between £39K to £68K a year (extra if living in or around London), these figures are intended as a guideline only.
