few weeks and have more great news to share with you. Huge thanks to everyone who

has contributed to the February edition of Headlands Highlights.

Congratulations to all of the children who have continued to make a very positive start to

2017 and have received star and writer of the week awards. Keep up the fantastic work!

CONGRATULATIONS!

We were so impressed to hear about the recent

achievement of Olivia in 5M.

Olivia attends the Emma Combs Dance Academy (TECDA) in

Heckmondwike. She was recently awarded the Modern Cup

for being the best dancer in the

Modern Dance category for the

whole of the academy.

This is an amazing achievement

Olivia - we are delighted that all of

your hard work and dedication to

dancing has been recognised.

What a star you are!

Y3’S HEALTHY TUCK SHOP

As part of their ‘Healthy Humans’ topic, Year Three have been busy identifying and tasting different

fruit and vegetables. During the tasting activities, the staff could clearly tell from the children’s faces

which of the foods they enjoyed and which they weren’t so keen on!

The children also had the opportunity to design a healthy kebab. They worked very hard on their

designs then sold their kebabs to KS2 pupils at an after school tuck shop on 09/02/16 . The tuck shop

was a huge success and the kebabs sold out in no time at all!

Can you identify the fruit

and vegetables that Y3

have been tasting?

WELL DONE!

In 1H, Grace’s toes have also been

tapping and we were delighted to hear

that she has recently received a

number of rosettes to acknowledge

her effort and the skills she

demonstrated during her free-style

street dance and 2 step dance exams.

Well done Grace - this is brilliant news

and we can’t wait to find out more

about your future dancing

achievements!

MATHS ENRICHMENT DAYS (13-15th February)

The children loved our maths days this year and had lots of fun. Y1-Y6 had

to apply maths skills such as symmetry, estimation, non-standard

measuring and area to produce amazing cartoon characters with our visitor

Ian – Mr Doodlebug. All classes completed many other mathematical

activities including problem solving, maths art, sewing mystic roses,

co-ordinates and optical illusions. Not only did the children enjoy their

activities, they improved their maths skills at the same time.

YR 5 FIRE SAFETY TALKS

On 14/02/17, local fire officers visited

Year 5 pupils to discuss fire safety in the

home. Pupils were informed about the

importance of having an escape plan in

the event of a fire and officers stressed

the need to ensure that alarms and

detectors were kept in good working

order.

In addition to this, the children enjoyed

a role play activity which helped them to

consider car safety aspects such as

wearing seatbelts and the importance of

not distracting the driver.

HEADLANDS vs HIGHTOWN

On Thursday 16th February pupils in Upper

KS2 played in a football match against

Hightown. All pupils played incredibly well

and demonstrated some great teamwork.

Headlands and Hightown were very closely

matched and the final score was 8 all.

Huge thanks to all of the families who stayed

behind after school to support the team.

Headlands Highlights

WE NEED YOUR HELP! The pupils at Headlands are so fortunate that the Friends of

Headlands Team work hard to plan and organise events for us all to

look forward to every year.

Over the last 12 months the children have enjoyed the school fayres,

discos and the monsters ball. In addition to this, the Year 6 pupils had

lots of fun on their special leavers outing back in the summer. Within

the last year, FOH have also supported enrichment events such as

the popular Maths Day, continued to develop our amazing woodland

area and fundraised for new equipment for the children to play with

during break times.

As we are sure you will understand, any PTA association is only as

strong as the people who contribute to it. Unfortunately, we are

becoming increasingly concerned about the long term sustainability

of our PTA. Over the next year or so the FOH Team is likely to

become much smaller as a number of the parents who currently

make huge contributions will no longer have children at Headlands

School. It would be an enormous shame if the FOH Team ceased to

exist and unfortunately school staff would not have the time to plan

and organise the events mentioned above.

The FOH Team are desperate for new members who can volunteer

regularly, contribute fresh ideas and who are keen to learn and take

on additional responsibilities in the

future. If you think you might be able to

help please express your interest by

contacting Mrs Drummond in school.

We can’t wait to hear from you!
