Hal leonardPiano aERobics NEWA Multi-Style, 40-Week Workout ProgrAM for Building reAl-World technique
by Wayne HawkinsOften when students decide to play contemporary styles of music, they lack the “chops” for the job. Piano Aerobics is a set of exercises that introduces stu-dents to many popular styles of music, including jazz, salsa, swing, rock, blues, new age, gospel, stride, and bossa nova. Not only will these exercises strengthen their chops, but they will also help them
to play these styles with more musical flair. In addition, there is a CD with accompaniment tracks featuring professional musicians playing in those styles.00311863 Book/CD Pack ............................................... $19.99 $11.99

by Christos TsitsarosThe benefits of warming up sufficiently before practicing have been the subject of various studies in keyboard journals and scientific publications on perfor-mance health and medicine. One of the easiest and safest ways to warm up remains to simply perform the activ-ity for a short time period at a lower rate and intensity. Warm-ups included here are relatively short, symmetrical,
in progressive difficulty, and based on the physiology of the hand and its proper relation to the keys. A wonderful companion for every player!00296812 ........................................................................... $8.99 $5.39

JAZZ pIAnO
Introduction to Swing and Bebop
Modern jazz piano has its roots in blues, stride, and swing styles. However, the modern era of jazz began with the development of bebop. From the bop era onward, jazz moved out of the popular music mainstream and into an art form. Some of the main points of change were:
1. Jazz developed a following of musicians and listeners alike who approach the music intellectually as well as emotionally.
2. To play jazz required a greater understanding of jazz theory and a higher level of virtuosity.3. At first many bop tunes used form and harmony from existing 32 and 12-bar forms. Later on, more
original, complicated forms and harmonies were introduced.
Jazz Exercises
Play this exercise, keeping in mind that all eighth-notes swing. In addition to swinging the eighth-notes, please play legato with slight accents as indicated.
This exercise follows the chord progression of the workout. All of the chords are on offbeats. Be sure to keep swinging the offbeats.
NOTE: In addition to providing a student with exposure to many of the styles of contemporary music, these workouts help to prepare a student to play with others. A jazz pianist will often play solo lines then accompany in a single chorus. When the pianist does this, it is in an even number of measures, most often in 4 measures. These measures will be marked as COMP and SOLO in the following workout.

czERny – sElEctions FRom thE littlE Pianist, oPus 823 The 29 etudes in this book are taken from Carl Czerny’s The Little Pianist, Opus 823. These engaging etudes are comparable to their famous “older brothers,” the studies found in The Art of Finger Dexterity, but are written for students at an earlier stage of study. They encompass a wealth of technical and music instruction from this master teacher of the Classical period, indeed, the world’s first great piano pedagogue. The etudes focus on
developing both technical and music skills, providing an excellent stylistic and technical resource for the intermediate pianist. Preceding each etude or group of etudes is a worksheet divided into three sections: Practice Tips, Quick Quiz and Creative Corner. These worksheets help students focus on the important technical features in each etude, apply practical music theory to their study of the music, and vary the etudes in creative ways.00296363 Book/CD Pack ..................................................$9.99 $5.9900296364 Book Only ..........................................................$6.99 $4.1900296365 GM Disk ........................................................... $9.95 $5.97

Hal leonardPiano tEachER’s guidE to cREativE comPosition NEWby Carol KloseThis book is meant to assist teachers who wish to introduce their students to creative composition but have limited lesson time available and feel the need for some direction in starting and con-tinuing the process successfully. The process involves devoting as little as five minutes of lesson time to composi-tion, but at every lesson over a period of, for example, six to eight weeks. Suggestions in the concise Lesson Plans
help bring about gradual changes or improvements from week to week that are enough to keep the piece developing, and, more importantly, to keep the student immersed and motivated in the process.00296828 ...........................................................................$9.99 $5.99
